I am a bit of a fan girl of Stacey Dooley. Love her documentaries and now her sleeping over series.
So I feel a bit off asking what people think of her dress sense. I don't understand it, huge baggy tracksuits and those awful earrings.
I may be missing something, is it a fashion thing?, but I have kids her age, and none of their group etc.... dress like that.
Please enlighten this old bag!

I am asking is it a style?

Yes.

Stacey Dooley's style!

NoSquirrels · 19/09/2019 22:09

she is actually tiny so any clothes are likely to look baggy on her

Also this ^^

You've watched Strictly and thought she's petite - she is, in real life, really, really tiny!

Yabbers · 19/09/2019 22:10

I am asking is it a style?

If only there was a part of this site which is dedicated to asking about style.

And actually you asked what people thought about it. Inviting judgement right there.

BanKittenHeels · 19/09/2019 22:11

I really want to watch her SacconeJoly sleep over programme. Does anyone know if it is a love in or if she actually challenges them on their crap?

Her style isn’t what I’d opt for but I think she looks good and it is very fashionable.

Tesbel · 19/09/2019 22:14

I've often wondered this myself Ruby.. so you're not alone.

NoSauce · 19/09/2019 22:15

I just see Bianca from Eastenders!

KyraLittle · 19/09/2019 22:17

I actually admire her for not conforming dresswise.

I see many women wearing similar clothing style.

Putoutmoreflags · 19/09/2019 22:30

@Gentlemanwiththistledownhair
Playing the naive wide eyed schoolgirl ingenue may have helped to get answers from the type of men that buy into that crap. I can’t admire it as a journalistic style however. Emily Maitlis and Laura Kuennsberg manage to ask probing questions that are answered without resorting to such measures.

absopugginglutely · 19/09/2019 22:31

I like her style on her but I find her very controlling and slightly affected when she is interviewed in particular.
She seems like the typical pass ag person, smiling assassin.

HopefulFor2020 · 19/09/2019 22:36

I used to 'sort of' know her in a professional capacity (a few conversations but nothing in depth) and as pp has said, that East London twang is exaggerated somewhat. She does do the 'gritty' documentaries so I wonder if the accent and the style is something that helped her fit in and come across as more of a peer to those who she was interviewing and now it's stuck?

kumbyah · 19/09/2019 22:39

Can't stand her or her dress sense. She has no discernible talent just it's good for the media to have a rough girl done good doing documentaries .

Igetknockeddownbutgetupagain · 19/09/2019 22:43

I make encourage my housemate to watch these with me and he and I both agreed that we think she chooses her style of dress to be unthreatening and relaxed, to put people at ease, so she can get them to divulge more. And it works, doesn’t it?
I’m fascinated also by how much she touches people, in casual conversation, a lot of arm touching. For such a young woman, I think her bravery and her humanity is second to none and I really have learnt a lot from her documentaries.

Putoutmoreflags · 19/09/2019 22:45

How is she brave?

Hedgehogblues · 19/09/2019 22:49

Funny how nobody gives a shit what Louis Theroux wears

kumbyah · 19/09/2019 22:50

She's getting a fat pay cheque to stand there and look "brave". There's lots of head tilting and "how does that make you feel knowing you could get shot" whilst surrounded by a huge camera crew. She's very aware of herself. But we all love her back story don't we.

kumbyah · 19/09/2019 22:52

rather than the intelligent serious journalist she is).

Oh purlease! She's hardly Kate f'in Adie is she!

LolaSmiles · 19/09/2019 23:14

Funny how nobody gives a shit what Louis Theroux wears

It's funny that. I agree

Aurignacian · 19/09/2019 23:20

I love her clothes and think she looks great. I also really like her perspective but I haven’t watched her recent show.

beingchampion · 19/09/2019 23:39

I just can't listen to or watch her. I know he's already been mentioned, but I see her as a Louis Theroux for stupid people.

Igetknockeddownbutgetupagain · 19/09/2019 23:58

In my opinion, she’s brave because she puts herself at risk, with the content of some of her older documentaries. She’s been into male prisons (Honduras) to interview men about crimes against women, she spoken to prolific violent gang members, she goes with police crews to arrest child sex traffickers and questions abusers (the Philippines)...

showmethegin · 20/09/2019 00:10

God this thread is depressing.

Ooh look at Louis Theroux are his glasses cool then? What about John snow, look his crazy socks and ties? Oh hahahaha

She's a journalist. You either like her or don't.

ilovesooty · 20/09/2019 00:22

I rather like her but I can't say I've ever noticed what she wears.

user764329056 · 20/09/2019 00:28

Don’t like her as a presenter, nor Theroux, there are far better than both of them

JellyfishAndShells · 20/09/2019 00:59

Hadn’t noticed particularly what she wears so it can’t have stood out to me as not to my taste or inappropriate. But I think she is terrible at her job and has an irritating presenting style - a PP describes it as ‘faux naive ‘ which hits the nail on the head. She’s comes over as a dim but deeply smug tabloid journalist.

Morado · 20/09/2019 01:10

No, I don't think it is a particularly a fashion. It's just her fashion sense.
