I am a bit of a fan girl of Stacey Dooley. Love her documentaries and now her sleeping over series.
So I feel a bit off asking what people think of her dress sense. I don't understand it, huge baggy tracksuits and those awful earrings.
I may be missing something, is it a fashion thing?, but I have kids her age, and none of their group etc.... dress like that.
Please enlighten this old bag!

I'm sure she's a lovely person but I can't understand why people think she's so amazing. She's a bog standard 'yoof appeal' TV presenter. There's no real analytical investigative journalism, she just picks very current issues & breathlessly describes them in quite a simplistic way

This, in a nutshell. It’s a very calculated approach and quite insulting to the viewer to think they would get taken in by it.

kumbyah
Those men are normally criticised for their ability to do their jobs and the way they interact with people.

In this thread, young woman is being scrutinised by what she wears rather than the quality of her journalism. Equally it's convenient that the likes of David Lammy could have criticised Comic Relief and made valid points for years, but he waited until there was a young fashionable woman doing something and then chose to slam her in the press because she's young, fashionable and female and therefore fair game.

It's like when Theresa May was in office and the press could have managed to report her political actions without commenting on her clothes, but they didn't.

Just because women regularly get their looks scrutinised more than men doesn't mean we should roll over and accept it.

I don’t give a shit about her dress sense but she’s a rubbish, exploitative documentary maker.

PinkButterfly855 · 21/09/2019 14:26

She is 31 so not particularly young.

Can’t stand her, her voice is grating.

I do think Stacey Dooley has the best hair!

A couple of years ago, DH and I were pottering in the kitchen, tv was on, and there was a documentary.
I was half listening, and then listened more intently.
Then asked DH what the heck was on, because the person talking was embarrassingly thick. All wide eyed wonder and as someone else has mentioned “all breathless”. We were laughing, it was so awful.
Anyway it was Stacey Dooley.
Never thought of her again until she was on Strictly, and I quite liked her, was pleased she won.
Thought she didn’t handle the Comic Relief thing well, I do agree she was wrong there. I think the whole concept of celebs nipping out and parading around with incredibly vulnerable people who know nothing about our lives is outdated and patronising, although I know it comes from a ‘good place’. She was wrong IMO, but determined that she wasn’t!
I also think she is a complete knob for going out with Kevin from grimbsy, he is such a tool!
I don’t care what she wears or how she looks.

She is 31 so not particularly young.
She's been doing it a while and she's still younger than many other documentary makers.
Of course it could be total coincidence that after decades of comic relief and hundreds of celebrities, David Lammy just happened to decide she was the person he was going to go for.

Just like it's a total coincidence that a thread about a younger female journalist picks apart her appearance and style in a way that's not done for older men in the field.
