Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?

As the title suggests, a random dog urinated all over my shoes and jeans. A friend and I were in a local park, sat on a bench, when a dog runs over and does this completely out of the blue. The dog walker came over and apologised and took my details but I have yet to hear anything from them.

I was wearing suede shoes with fur detailing at the time so all hope of cleaning them is lost Sad the bottom of my jeans and ankles were also covered in urine which was incredibly unpleasant. Needless to say I had to go home and clean myself up so ended up having to cancel some of my plans for that day.

What would you do in my situation? Sadly the shoes were quite expensive although they were 6 months old. I’m annoyed that this person was not able to control their dog and i feel the owner has a responsibility to put things right. Any advise would be really helpful.

Sorry but I'm with the OP, I'd be livid.
Any dog in a park needs to be under control. This one clearly was not.
As a result of the owner's negligence, the OPs shoes have been damaged and she is now out of pocket for those shoes. Being suede I would imagine they were intended to get her through winter, so it's an inconvenience.

The OP should not just get over it, I would be straight on the phone explaining the shoes cost X amount and need to be replaced, tell them you will send them a link and shoe size or they are welcome to drop the money off for her to replace herself.

The same attitude of poking fun would have been strangely absent if the dog had urinated on a child, or worse yet, snapped and drawn blood. This is no different, the owner allowed their dog to run out of control and they need to take responsibility.

Revolting. Am always astounded at what MN will put up with if a dog is involved. Op, you should have waited to see if it wanted a crap in comfort as well.

As you don't have their details not much you can do.

I would bin everything due to the ick factor etc.

Btw some people have severe ocd or mental health issues and being pissed on by a dog would be really traumatic. But I suppose they should stay out of parks...

sparklefarts · 19/09/2019 09:46

I had this happen to me three times. In the same park. Different occasions. Maybe I look like a tree?

My friend's dog has done this to.me about three times when we have been stood chatting . I guess he likes me !

Tobeshared · 19/09/2019 09:57

My dog has done this - he aimed for a narrow lamp post we were standing beside but he hit the shoes of a women standing close by - of course I pulled the dog away when I noticed - but the woman hadn't noticed and we made a quick getaway...I was really embarrassed 😳 what could I say! I thought she was best not to know.

Kaykay06 · 19/09/2019 10:05

Normal dogs don’t do this
Not one dog I’ve owned has peed on a person or a lamppost
They are also trained to pee on command - guide dog pups, there is no need if you train your dog to return to you that it should’ve got near enough to a person to bloody piss all over them. Disgusting.
I would’ve been angry if they ruined an item of clothing/shoes too.

PeoplesPoet · 19/09/2019 10:05

I have black suede/fur style boots for winter (FAKE fur) and I wouldn't laugh at the time, I'd want to get home and soak them in hot soapy water asap, and then have a shower.

If my dog did it to someone else I'd be mortified.

My 3 and 7 year olds would be in stitches and would definitely bring it up just as we sat down to eat.

UndomesticHousewife · 19/09/2019 10:07

You want the owner to give you money to replace the shoes but unless you got their details there's nothing you can do so move on.
I'm pretty sure the dog was not aiming for you but for the bench. My dog does not pee on people but does pee on lots of benches.

Aldibaldi555 · 19/09/2019 10:11

YANBU

I for one am totally fed up of out of control dogs and entitled dog owners

You think normal dogs don't pee on lampposts? Confused no they don't pee on people but of course male dogs lift their leg onto lampposts. They also scent onto lampposts and benches etc.
Are you actually sure that when you take your dog out for a walk it never does a pee except on command?
The op was sitting on a bench, the dog peed on the bench the dog didn't run up to her as she was standing in a shop and pee all over her.

gubbsywubbsy · 19/09/2019 10:17

Put your shoes in the washing machine . They will be fine .

CacenCrunch · 19/09/2019 10:19

The dog may have dementia 😂😂😂😂😂

AussieBeauty · 19/09/2019 10:52

If this is real Yabu for wearing suede and fur, hopefully it was faux fur.

makingmammaries · 19/09/2019 11:17

To those who say you can’t stop a dog peeing, I promise you can. My male dog would love to pee on anything new that appears in the garden, so I say NO and push him away from it. It works.

The thing to do, OP, is wear Crocs.

MountainDweller · 19/09/2019 11:40

Check your house insurance - do you have cover for items outside the home? There might be an excess to pay though so possibly not worth it. Take photos for the insurance of the shoes and jeans before cleaning and if you wash the jeans and they are still stained, take an after washing photo as well.

Does no one think owners should be responsible for their dogs when out and about?

Inebriati · 19/09/2019 11:45

Don't wear new suede out of doors until you've given it 3 coats of suede protector. Unless its waterproof it wont last through a UK winter.

Isit2019already · 19/09/2019 11:54

You have the owner'd details, OP, why not just get in contact with them? Send them a cleaning bill or whatever.

My friend's dog once shat on her head Blush

We need a picture of the shoes. Also, weren't your feet fucking boiling in suede, fur-trimmed shoes? It was pretty hot yesterday.

Pamplemousecat · 19/09/2019 12:08

This is hilarious 😂. The dog 🐶 didn’t approve of the “ fur detailing “. I’m imagining a fur trim in the shoe but it doesn’t look quite right in my head!! 😂😂😂😂🙈🐶

Pamplemousecat · 19/09/2019 12:09

Next time your brave the fur detail boots OP just pop those swimming pool shoe covers over the top to keep them wee proof.

JacquesHammer · 19/09/2019 12:14

I rather think it’s the draw of a thread where people can attempt to be funny in the hope that it will become another “MN Classic”.

LochJessMonster · 19/09/2019 12:18

People are finding this funny because any normal person who had a dog run up and cock their leg would instantly move away, and not let the shoes and jeans gets covered in wee.

The Op must have sat there for a while or shes exaggerating how much piss actually got on her..

CCquavers · 19/09/2019 12:26

Bloody dog walkers think they own the planet. Be more alert and tell the dog to shoo away asking loudly who this dog belongs to as he has blood pouring out of him, then walk off. Honestly after the news about tazer guns I was wondering if there was something similar for dogs.

Dog owners please note that A LOT of people don't like and don't want your animal approaching them. How many of think its ok to let your dog wonder up to people?

Its especially not ok to let your dog urinate on someone. No power of call back ? then put dog on lead.

GPatz · 19/09/2019 12:32

I bet some of theses posters to suck it up would loose their shit over a cat defecating in their begonias.

Bubsworth · 19/09/2019 12:36

Gross. Only dog owners would find being covered in dog piss funny.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/09/2019 12:52

I’m a dog owner and I find it as gross as anyone.
