Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?

As the title suggests, a random dog urinated all over my shoes and jeans. A friend and I were in a local park, sat on a bench, when a dog runs over and does this completely out of the blue. The dog walker came over and apologised and took my details but I have yet to hear anything from them.

I was wearing suede shoes with fur detailing at the time so all hope of cleaning them is lost Sad the bottom of my jeans and ankles were also covered in urine which was incredibly unpleasant. Needless to say I had to go home and clean myself up so ended up having to cancel some of my plans for that day.

What would you do in my situation? Sadly the shoes were quite expensive although they were 6 months old. I’m annoyed that this person was not able to control their dog and i feel the owner has a responsibility to put things right. Any advise would be really helpful.

The shoes haven't been destroyed though, they can be cleaned by the right people.

If we all threw out every item of clothing which had been peed or thrown up on, or worse (and as mostly parents this must be a reasonably common occurrence) you'd quickly have no clothes left.

Ignore the how of what happened for the moment and consider the practical steps you can take. Urine almost always can be cleaned off, regardless of where it's come from.

Branleuse · 19/09/2019 07:32

I dont think this is a normal thing. Id be extremely annoyed

kmammamalto · 19/09/2019 07:36

I agree with @patricksrum it's gross. Although I am so fed up with dog owners at the minute I think I would struggle to find anything about it funny. I live by a beautiful sea front and on mat leave so have started walking it in the mornings. The amount of dog owners who literally ignore the by laws which are clearly signed about dogs on leads and off the beach is unreal. I have had the scare of my life several time with one jumping up on me and owners say hahaha it's fine don't worry.... It's not fine actually I don't want your dog on me! They poo on the beach where my kids play and the owner is so engrossed in their phone they don't even turn to see where it is or what it's doing.
I know not all owners are like this but by the 'get over it' attitudes on here I can see why they all get tarred with the same brush.
OP it really is gross and your property has been damaged. The owner sounded apologetic though so maybe contact them and see what happens?

RavenLG · 19/09/2019 07:53

@Fuma

Ah yes, it’s totally hoarding to clean the clothes you own. No wonder fast fashion is destroying the planet so much if people chuck things the second anything other than daily dirt gets on them. But then you’re the type of person to correct peoples grammar so it explains a lot.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 19/09/2019 07:57

Tough crowd in here again tonight.

Lana08 · 19/09/2019 07:57

Suede shoes with fur detailing..
Are they uggs op?

KUGA · 19/09/2019 07:59

Maybe the dog took a shine to you and was marking his territory.

Straycats · 19/09/2019 08:02

Can not understand so many comments, that's gross. What if some random person pissed on you, hey it's only wee, laugh it off! F........ hell I wouldn't.

Instatwat · 19/09/2019 08:04

JumpyLiz · 19/09/2019 08:12

Sorry but this made me laugh

while their owners shout : don't worry, love, it doesn't not bite!

I’m imagining a very brief moment of bafflement, whilst everyone works out whether the dog is going to bite or not

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 19/09/2019 08:13

The shoes are destroyed and the owner has fucked off. It is a bit funny , but mainly to those it hasn't happened to, and people for whom the cost of a pair of boots is negligible.

SaskiaRembrandt · 19/09/2019 08:17

I'm just going to leave this here

Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?
Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2019 08:19

Yes it’s ‘don't worry he won’t bite, he just wants to pee all over you, that’s ok isn’t it? No big deal!’

GCAcademic · 19/09/2019 08:20

I’m a dog owner and would be mortified if my dog did this. I would have paid for the shoes to be cleaned or replaced immediately. I can’t understand why so many people think this is a joke.

BeerandBiscuits · 19/09/2019 08:35

I can’t understand why so many people think this is a joke.
I don't understand why it's funny either, but it is Grin.
Happened to me once, really cute little dog came up to me in park and peed over my shoe. Unexpected and hilarious.

LakieLady · 19/09/2019 08:36

Dogs, like humans, have to have a certain amount of urine in their bladders to be able to pee. Therefore you cannot make a dog or a human pee on command because they might have just been for a pee. Dogs, like us, pee when they need to.

Male dogs (I've had 2) seem to be capable of retaining sufficient urine to ensure that they can piss on any interesting smell that requires the addition of their wee. It may only be a couple of drops, but they pee all over the place, especially where other dogs have also peed. It's a territorial thing, the canine equivalent of "I woz 'ere" graffiti.

My second male dog peed on my leg and foot twice, once to a lady we were chatting to and once on a policeman's boot (the policeman didn't notice, thankfully). He also did it to my friend, when she was looking after him. Her own dog promptly followed his example and pissed on her leg, too. My first one never did it, but he was a saint among dogs.

Perhaps fur-trimmed suede shoes aren't the most appropriate footwear for a trip to the park, OP.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/09/2019 08:39

Op can wear what she damn well likes Hmm. You shouldn’t need to modify your footwear to lessen the likelihood of being pissed on by a random animal.

Sarcelle · 19/09/2019 08:42

I love dogs but hate some of the entitled attitudes of dog owners. I have not rtft but some of the get over it comments seem a bit harsh. Of course she should get over it, but she is allowed to be annoyed about it. Dogs should not be a bother to other people, keep them on a lead if they are unpredictable, which most of them are.

Sarcelle · 19/09/2019 08:48

I think the OP can wear what the hell she likes to the park.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 19/09/2019 08:54

Can't see the funny part really. Esp if op isn't a dog lover. Who knows she probably cannot afford another pair/get them cleaned and the current ones probably stink or maybe she doesn't want to wear peed on shoes. Totally fine. Some comments are border line trolling, I felt uncomfortable reading them. Op seemed genuinely unhappy and everyone added to that. We really need to think about ppls feelings esp online, we don't know what they are going thru. Some comments could tip ppl to the edge. If the Op had found it funny then great let's us have laugh and fill our tena pants with accidental wee. But she came from a place of concern, looking for advice. She mostly got fingers pointed and lols.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 19/09/2019 09:01

Just spray some enzyme cleaner on them then give them a go over with a suede brush once they're dry - it's not a big deal.

Smelborp · 19/09/2019 09:03

I think this is gross and I’d ask for the shoes to be replaced.

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 19/09/2019 09:16

She had them apple bottom jeans, the boots with the fur...

Sorry OP - I feel for you because it must have been gross. I doubt you will hear anything more from the dog owner, so probably best just to chalk this one up as an unfortunate experience and know that one day you'll laugh over it!

Mordred · 19/09/2019 09:30

Christ, the hideousness of entitled dog owners.

You're more restrained than me, OP - I'd have kicked the bastard thing.

Ijustwanttoretire · 19/09/2019 09:35

Why would a dog wee all over someone though? Is that classed as acceptable?

Everyone on here seems to think there's no big deal, well sorry, I would be royally pissed off (pun intended) if this happened to me and for someone to tell me to 'grow up' would piss me off more! So sitting on a bench makes you fair game to be pissed on? I would have given the owner shit (not literally). Likewise if I had a dog that did this I would be as mortified as the pissee. YANBU
