Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?

As the title suggests, a random dog urinated all over my shoes and jeans. A friend and I were in a local park, sat on a bench, when a dog runs over and does this completely out of the blue. The dog walker came over and apologised and took my details but I have yet to hear anything from them.

I was wearing suede shoes with fur detailing at the time so all hope of cleaning them is lost the bottom of my jeans and ankles were also covered in urine which was incredibly unpleasant. Needless to say I had to go home and clean myself up so ended up having to cancel some of my plans for that day.

What would you do in my situation? Sadly the shoes were quite expensive although they were 6 months old. I’m annoyed that this person was not able to control their dog and i feel the owner has a responsibility to put things right. Any advise would be really helpful.

And those apple bottom jeans... on a side note - what actually are apple bottom jeans? Are the like skinny jeans but with a weird flare?

Well obviously I wouldn't shout at the dog @pamplemousecat. I'd talk to it kindly and lovingly about how proud I was of it for pissing but then say that it might want to gently take on board that having kind paws is important and having kind paws means not pissing on someone's foot. Then I'd set up a sticker chart and give it a wholesome vegan treat every time it got five smiley stickers in a week. Yes. That's what I would do.

No its not the minding the wee . It’s the general attitudes to animals can be pretty abhorrent at times. Uptight when people screech about an animal walking past them or sniffing near them. That’s uptight. Moaning about wee is understandable but it is a fairly unusual occurrence. I don’t imagine it happens on a regular basis.

I’m not sure shouting stop to a dog will make it stop mid wee! People should stop being so uptight about ( so many professionally offended by dog and cat people on this site) animals and understand they don’t act like humans. These things happen. I always think I never do take to people one hundred percent of they don’t like animals. It’s like they’ve got an empathy chip missing.

I think they’re rather expecting the owner to control their dog and pay for any cleaning required.

I probably would shout "No stop" at my dog if they strolled up to someone minding their business and piss all over them...

The OP cant do anything about it now and hopefully jumped away, But I agree with the OP that its grim and I wouldn't shrug it off as nature as a dog owner.

On a thread where a person asked what to do when a neighbour complains about her cat shitting on their veg that OP was crucified. I am copying those responses here:

the owner should have apologised
the dog must be on a lead
the owner must have offered you the compensation/ took your number and paid for dry cleaning
"seriously, some people! entitled shits, they and their dogs, and it's that shruggy behaviour on dog owners part is so enraging"
dogs are arseholes and are bad for environment.

I am sorry it happened to you. I don't have a dog but if it were mine I'd be mortified (no joking) and offered a compensation. If you said "these were £1000 Salvatore Ferragamo" I wouldn't have that amount of dosh but I would at least try to offer you what I can.

My 18 year old bitch started cocking her leg and peeing on random objects,(along with a lot of other things she began doing), she was diagnosed with dementia, and put to sleep the same day.

I used to have a little Yorkie who was very well trained but always had a wee on my then boyfriends brother. He was a tiny dog so the brother would pick him up and the dog would wee on him. Only him! I also had a female Labrador who dribbled if she got excited. It’s not great but now I’ve had a baby I kinda get it.

OP i’m sure it wasn’t pleasant for you, call the owner and tell them what you want? The dog probably wees on that bench every time it goes past it, unfortunately you just happened to be sitting on it this time. It probably figured if you were happy to sit in his old wee you wouldn’t mind a fresh delivery.

I'm a dog owner and I don't think it's funny.

I do think it was unpleasant.

I do think it was an accident.

I do think the shoes and jeans can be cleaned.

I do think the dog owner should pay for said cleaning if they can't be cleaned normally (and I do think OP should contact the dog owner and ask rather than sitting there waiting).

Therefore I do think a lot of the posters on this thread are making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill.

That's disgusting and I wouldn't be happy either OP.

I own 2 large dogs and can stop them with a loud no, But they haven't tried pissing on people thankfully. Seriously what some dog owners let their dogs get away with in the name of "nature" is grim.
