AIBU?

Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?

As the title suggests, a random dog urinated all over my shoes and jeans. A friend and I were in a local park, sat on a bench, when a dog runs over and does this completely out of the blue. The dog walker came over and apologised and took my details but I have yet to hear anything from them.

I was wearing suede shoes with fur detailing at the time so all hope of cleaning them is lost Sad the bottom of my jeans and ankles were also covered in urine which was incredibly unpleasant. Needless to say I had to go home and clean myself up so ended up having to cancel some of my plans for that day.

What would you do in my situation? Sadly the shoes were quite expensive although they were 6 months old. I’m annoyed that this person was not able to control their dog and i feel the owner has a responsibility to put things right. Any advise would be really helpful.

It ridiculous to suggest we have no choice but to let dogs pee on us. Please there is nothing u can do. It's not nearly the same as a child vomiting. I agree with u OP. Its disgusting. Avoidable. The owner should not let his dog be in your personal space (ie close enough to pee on you) without your permission. I would be struggle to see the funny side.

Male dogs often wee mark "territorially". Once the smell is there, other dogs come along and do a pissy "reply all" leaving a mark trail. Two points to make on this OP:-

  1. the dog really liked you...like or not dogs choose you, you're a dog woman!
  2. clean the boots well otherwise you will become a walking doggy urinal for the parks male doggies! 😉

I don't understand all the people on here telling you to laugh about it. It's not funny it's disgusting and if you hadn't of been able to get home to change you would have gone around smelling of dog piss all day!

It’s a pain but honestly, it’s just one of those crappy things to suck up. I honestly don’t think the dogs owner owes you a new pair of shoes.

I have used water and washing up liquid on suede. Once dry, brush up the pile with a suede brush and then use the combing side to fluff up the fur.

Why should the OP accept her shoes being ruined? I wouldn't. I'd be totally fucked off. Wee from a human or animal is disgusting.

As usual, a few posters say get over yourself and everybody runs to agree.

I would want recompense. YANBU.

Same thing happened to me at my own front door! Bit of dog piss isn't going to kill anyone.

I was thinking more of the casual attitude to piss, @RavenLG, and getting an America's Top Hoarders vibe. Oh, and it's 'we're'.

I am with you op. It's gross. I would not laugh it off if I was pissed on by a random dog.
You should have taken the dog walkers number though. I suspect they won't call you, & you will he left unfairly with the mess & expense.

OP buy a bottle of soda water and pour over the shoes, otherwise other dogs will also piss on them (and it removes any smell)

Mumsnet. The only place I've ever been where it is apparently perfectly normal - indeed, inevitable - for a dog to pee on the legs of other park-users, but considered to be utterly revolting for toddlers to sit and pee in portable potties, into bags which are then taken away and disposed of.

Seriously, having a dog is a lifestyle choice, just like smoking or keeping rodents or reptiles as pets. Or indeed, having children. If it's yours, then great - I hope it beings you great happiness, but don't kid yourself that it's acceptable to impose it on everyone else. Really, it's not, no matter how many times you try to convince yourself otherwise. Nothing to do with the rest of us, and hugely anti-social to try to suggest that it should be. If my child had peed on you, or I had let my (hypothetical) pet rat run up your trouser leg, I suspect you might not have thought it was so hilarious/gone about your day.

Dogs can't pee on demand any more than humans can.

Confused

AIBU to think its odd to wear suede shoes with fur detail in September?

Report
Fuma · 18/09/2019 22:42

Not as odd as saying humans can't be toilet trained.

OP you seem to be very hung up on the fact that it was a “random” dog that peed on your leg. I am taking from this that if you had been formally introduced or it was listed in Debretts that it would have been welcome to pee on your leg all the live long day.

Why would a dog wee all over someone though? Is that classed as acceptable?

Show it this thread, maybe?

give the dog walker a call and ask her to replace your ruined shoes, and if she refuses, you can either let it go or take her to small claims .... not a lot of options other than that

Really? It’s nothing serious. Just an inconvenience. There’s much more to whine about.

I would have jumped up and moved as soon as I realised. Confused

And as for controlling a dog well enough to stop it mid flow... [hmmm]

Would I be ticked off? Probably not. I've had worse from children.

I'm going with these...

Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?

How did you expect the owner to take control? It’s simply nature taking its course. What do you think the owner could have done to prevent this from happening?

Keep it under control if it doesn't understand that it can't pee one people?

OP, you need to see if the shoes can be cleaned professionally. If they can, send the bill to the dog's owner. If they can't, contact the owner with details of their value and ask for compensation. If they don't respond, it's probably best to write this one off to experience.

Grim. I’d be annoyed too. I’d get a price for professionally cleaning the shoes and ask the dog owner for it but let go of the jeans/wasted time.

I expect your shoes will clean up well enough. I get how annoyed you are, op, but looking back on it you will laugh.

Some years ago we took in a young stray cat, he was really lovely but hadn't been neutered. He sprayed everywhere, including my handbag and in the car when the door was opened. We had someone (not very nice or efficient) doing some work on our house and the cat went out and sprayed in the back of his van which had doors open. Of course, when we decided we would officially adopt him after being unable to trace owners, we had him neutered. He's a gorgeous big bloke now, I often look at him and laugh at the memory of how he was when he first came here.

You must be tall and willowy, op, and the dog mistook your legs for a slender tree.
