Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?

As the title suggests, a random dog urinated all over my shoes and jeans. A friend and I were in a local park, sat on a bench, when a dog runs over and does this completely out of the blue. The dog walker came over and apologised and took my details but I have yet to hear anything from them.

I was wearing suede shoes with fur detailing at the time so all hope of cleaning them is lost Sad the bottom of my jeans and ankles were also covered in urine which was incredibly unpleasant. Needless to say I had to go home and clean myself up so ended up having to cancel some of my plans for that day.

What would you do in my situation? Sadly the shoes were quite expensive although they were 6 months old. I’m annoyed that this person was not able to control their dog and i feel the owner has a responsibility to put things right. Any advise would be really helpful.

I would put the shoes on your feet and dip them in a bucket of water and swoosh over the shoes with your hands. The reason for putting the shoes on your feet is to keep the water out of the inside of the shoes.

Try leaving the shoes in the sun outside for several days (obv bring in overnight).

I don't agree with people saying get over it. It's pretty disgraceful to let your dog or a dog you are walking go and wreck people's property. That said, there is virtually no chance of you getting any money/recompense. The dog walker and the dog owner will try to insist it's the responsiblity of the other.

Lots of dirty mares on here obviously. Wouldn't like to think of the state of some of your houses.
Why, were the ones that understand how to use a washing machine and the shower. Do you not?

The dog may have dementia.

I don't think it's an 'accident', the dog should not be allowed to do it in the first place

It has almost certainly never pissed on anyone before and will probably never do it again. Sometimes this stuff just happens.

If a toddler suddenly threw up on your shoes in the park as they were getting off the swings, would you tell the mother they should have had the toddler under control? No, because nobody could have predicted it was suddenly going to throw up.

Also, who the hell just stands there while a dog does a full wee on them? Surely this was no more than a scent-marking sprinkle, unless the OP really did just allow it to stand there pissing away for 20 seconds?

Trousers can go in the wash, suede and fur shoes (because apparently this happened in Lapland) can be steamed and brushed clean. You’ve almost certainly trod in wee many times before without realising.

I have no idea how you stop a dog weeing but getting it to wee somewhere else should be a possibility surely. Isn't that what dog training is for?

If you had it on a lead, walking past people on benches would you really let it get that close?

Dog nappies. Are they a thing? Sounds like just the job. Grin

Stuff gets dirty, you clean it. Anyone wearing shoes that cannot possibly be cleaned, outside, in the uk, in september, is a right wally. If they’ve got real fur on them then they’re a prize cunt as well, sorry bout it.

I can't compare toddlers puking to weeing dogs. It's not the same thing at all.

I think it’s horrible and I’d expect the dog owner to pay for shoe cleaning or replacement, in much the same way I would if I accidentally spilt red wine on someone’s clothes.

The dog should have been on a lead or trained not to approach people if off lead, it shouldn't have been able to get close enough to pee on someone. YANBU.

I have their details too.

There were three adorable dogs playing around us, including one puppy, and this happened quite suddenly. Of course I moved as soon as I realised what was going on.

I’m nearly 50 years old and have never had this happen to me before so I’m not sure I agree with those who suggest it’s a normal thing. Not being a drama queen, I laughed at it too, but sadly my shoes are not looking that great anymore and I personally think it’s pretty disgusting.

Judging from everyone’s reactions I should move on and forget about this, and accept that dogs will be dogs. I personally feel that dog owners have a responsibility to ensure that their pets do not cause any damage, even if it is only to a pair of shoes, but I accept that I’m in the minority.

Ohh bless happened to my mum many years ago on holiday in France she had white jeans on as well 😱😂 funny now when we all talk about it but at the time my mum was rightly furious and the owners didn't say anything just carried on
