Random dog urinated all over my shoes. What do I do?

As the title suggests, a random dog urinated all over my shoes and jeans. A friend and I were in a local park, sat on a bench, when a dog runs over and does this completely out of the blue. The dog walker came over and apologised and took my details but I have yet to hear anything from them.

I was wearing suede shoes with fur detailing at the time so all hope of cleaning them is lost Sad the bottom of my jeans and ankles were also covered in urine which was incredibly unpleasant. Needless to say I had to go home and clean myself up so ended up having to cancel some of my plans for that day.

What would you do in my situation? Sadly the shoes were quite expensive although they were 6 months old. I’m annoyed that this person was not able to control their dog and i feel the owner has a responsibility to put things right. Any advise would be really helpful.

I dont understand people suggesting that the dog owner is not to blame. If your dog doesn't understand not to wee on people keep it on a lead. People ar entitled tonuse the park without risk of dog wee. I am surprised so many people saying this is funny and unavoidable.
However did u sit there and just let the dog do a full wee over u. Surely u would automatically jump up as soon as it had a drip. I am not a dog person and dont like dogs approaching me. If your dog isnt well behaved keep it on the lead. It's not hard.

I don't think it's an 'accident', the dog should not be allowed to do it in the first place.

@Sparklingbrook nobody actually wants it to happen but yes it is pretty funny when it does occasionally happen. I didn't particularly want to slip and land in the duck pond when we were feeding the ducks but hey ho I did much to the amusement of my DH, my kids and about 20 random strangers.

@sweeneytoddsrazor
Is that on film at all? 🤣🤣

I really need to see these shoes because they sound bloody horrible 😂

I’m with Sparklingbrook who is however rather unfortunately named for this thread

Your schoolboy error was giving your details and not getting theirs. It wouldn’t be unreasonable for them to cover any specialist cleaning costs. But a bit of wee shouldn’t kill your shoes, unless there’s an indelible watermark of course.

I’d be pissed off if it happened to me

Please post a pic of the shoes.

@Halo1234 I would bet every penny I have that the dog understands not to wee on people. I doubt it spends its day waiting for an opportune moment to pee on its owner.

But (male) dogs wee on benches, lamposts, walls etc.

I would guess the dog went to wee on the bench and the OP got some splashed on her, rather than the dog actually aiming for OP's legs.

Even if you had a dog on a lead, if it's determined to pee there's little you can do to stop them.

The OP's username is cracking me up, too.

Fur? Real fur? I’d be tempted to wee on your boots if they were real fur

I think it’s the ‘what should I do now?’ thing that most posters are bemused by

(and the shoes)

It would be excellent if the dog did pee on it's owner TBF.

Once watched my Dad and big Sis race a dog to their pile of stuff in the beach. They looked at random dog, random dog looked at them, and all started running. The dog won, peed, and ran off. We washed it off in the sea, dried it under the loo hand-driers, and went on with our day...

with much sniggering remembering the look on all three faces as they realised and started running

Seriously OP, dog cocks leg, you move yours, it's not ideal but to be soaked it sounds like you just sat there Hmm

@Sparklingbrook how do you stop a dog peeing? Even if it had been on a lead and under 100% control and the owner walked by the bench it may still have peed on the bench if it had a mind to. The only thing you can do is drag them away (which I assure you does nothing to actually stop them mid-flow!) but by that point the damage is already done.

EdWinchester Yes! Thanks for the laugh!

As for the OP, I agree with the majority - things like this happen occasionally. Get some suede cleaner, wash your trews and have a laugh. It’s actually pretty funny and conjures up quite the picture in my head.

Suede brush and cleaner from John Lewis- cherry Blossom- they also do a magic eraser type thing for suede.

Dog pee doesn't linger unlike cat pee

Not to my knowledge @Bookworm4. I bloody hope not anyway. It was in no way graceful.

Lots of dirty mares on here obviously. Wouldn't like to think of the state of some of your houses.

A lot of dog owners on this thread tonight. Doesn’t sound very funny to me and I would have been very cross. If the dog is not controllable then it should be on a lead. However you sound dramatic too OP.
If you didn’t take the owners details then what do think is going to happen? Nothing at all you can do.

Crap happens, move on. I am sure you have stepped in worse. - yes, and I am starting to think that more and more dog owners are selfish gits. I'm sick of having to avoid walking in dog shit daily and seeing dog poo bags hanging everywhere.
