I’ve just made myself some salt and pepper on toast. First discovered as a poor student when literally all I had in the house was value white sliced bread, cheap margarine and salt and pepper. It’s very nice! I’m now 41 and I make it with nice bread and butter, Maldon salt and freshly ground pepper though Smile

Sometimes I like to eat a bit of stock cube too

Anyone else?

For those of you who drink pickle brine/juice, there is an actual drink for you.....Pickleback. It's a shot of whisky followed by a shot of pickle brine, not forgetting the Dirty Martini which is a classic Dry Martin with the addition of some olive brine. Cheers!

Tea cakes or currant buns, with butter and ham inside. My bf at the time got me onto them!

Ham and salt and vinegar crisp sandwiches. Ham sandwiches are a bit boring - crisps add some crunch and stronger flavour!

Cheese and grape sandwiches.

Tomato ketchup sarnies (must be white bread, obvs)
Ditto brown sauce for those who like it
My mum used to make chocolate spread out of butter/margarine, sugar and cocoa powder. Food of the gods.
Oxo cube dissolved in water, served with cubes of bread dunked in it.
Leeks with melted cheese on buttered toast.
And a crispy sandwich. (expect it's already been mentioned a thousand times, lol)
Yes, I grew up in a very poor family. Why is it that the very poorest, most desperate, skintest food tastes the best?

I love:
Crisp sandwiches
Sausage roll baps
Chips, curry sauce and fried rice
Chips, peas and gravy
Fish finger sandwiches
Waffles cooked in the toaster

Seeds

StarWanderer · 27/09/2019 15:25

Crunchy peanut butter spread on shredded cold chicken. Buttered digestives.

CTRL · 27/09/2019 16:00

When I said seeds I means like cherry pips and orange pips, watermelon pips

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 27/09/2019 16:06

When I was pregnant with dc1 I craved Heinz lentil soup, cold and straight from the tin.. With dc2 it was quavers dipped in garlic and herb cream cheese.. I could literally get through packets and packets of crisps and a whole tub of cheese in an evening..

Drivemecrazy1974 · 27/09/2019 16:08

Vinegar on mashed potatoes. Also, when I was younger, I used to love pouring vinegar into a packet of ready salted crisps - thought about doing that the other day, but thought it would be a bit odd as a 45-year-old!
When I was younger, I used to also enjoy Oxo with milk in it and bits of bread - I was weird!

LemonadePockets · 27/09/2019 16:10

I love a mash potato sandwich, tomato sauce instead of butter. I didn’t know this was weird until I made it somewhere and the person I was eating with was gobsmacked 😂 my family used to have bread on the table with every meal..

Mamasaurus82 · 27/09/2019 16:12

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 28/09/2019 14:39

I like seafood sticks with Marie Rose sauce ketchup and mayo mixed together

Baxterbear · 28/09/2019 15:46

pizza, potato waffle and a fried egg sandwich!! This was my coming home from a night out meal...(aka too skint to buy a kebab!)

BearSoFair · 28/09/2019 16:09

Cheese on toast with ketchup (spread under the cheese). I consider this perfectly normal but relatives insist it is not.

sueelleker · 28/09/2019 18:45

Digestive biscuits with a thick layer of butter on top. When I was a kid we didn’t have much money so no fancy or expensive snacks, digestives were cheap so we always had them in. A layer of butter made them extra tasty.
I still like buttered digestives-especially with cheese on top

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 28/09/2019 18:49

Raw sausages dipped in tomato ketchup then dipped into a bowl of cold tinned sweet corn 😋

Mamasaurus82 · 28/09/2019 19:30

Has anyone already said buttered weetabix? I don't eat them anymore, but this was a regular thing in our house growing up...

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/09/2019 20:21

Raw sausages Shock

Littlemissamy · 29/09/2019 01:20

Cheese and onion crisp sandwich with slices of nasty processed cheese. Absolutely outstanding.

Supernoodles, cooked in the microwave with loads of chilli flakes, mixed with a tin of tuna when cooked, then inside a toasted sandwich. Bloody delicious.

Oh god, I have pregnancy nausea and I've never regretted clicking on a thread more 😂🤢

JustDanceAddict · 29/09/2019 08:48

Cold baked beans
Crisps w cheese
Grated cheese and grated carrot together - it’s so nice

JustDanceAddict · 29/09/2019 08:49

Asa child i ate buttered weetabix

louderthan1 · 29/09/2019 14:09

Garlic and herb cream cheese on toast with black olives

LeggyLinda · 29/09/2019 14:25

Don’t know if this has been mentioned before (haven’t read whole thread), but blue cheese (Stilton is best) in chocolate sauce. When people see me eat it they are disgusted; but once they try it themselves are instantly converted.
I also have a friend that only eats fries if she can dip them in ice cream - I can’t get on board with that though
