Lighthearted.
First day of c25k this morning.Im sweating, face like a beetroot and shes all motivating with her lovely voice going "are you ready for your next run?" "Only 2 runs to go" Hmm meanwhile I'm sweating like a pig thinking you fucking do it if it's that easy!! They are only 60min jogs with walking inbetween but its soo hard! Blush

I had Sarah to help me for C25k, and loved her cheeriness- good luck and keep going! Sarah was very proud of me when I finished 😄

Spudlet · 16/09/2019 09:36

lol, I couldn’t help but hear her comments as being slightly sarcastic Grin I switched to a generic voice, which I prefer. I love Sarah Millican’s comedy but I just couldn’t quite get on with her coaching!

Aprinceinapaupersgrave · 16/09/2019 09:38

Something went wrong with my app and I couldn't get Sarah any more. I switched to Jo Wiley and I'm so pleased I did. Really encouraging but down to earth with it.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/09/2019 09:39

I last did it in june a year ago for my first attempt at race for life.Didnt get past week four but I completed the race in 40 mins.Im feeling flabby and unfit atm so I've re installed the app.

I haven’t got the app - does she say things “now treat yourself to a cuppa and a slice of cake pet” at the end?

DominicCummingsGilet · 16/09/2019 09:44

*things like

Smelborp · 16/09/2019 09:45

I was thinking that 60min jogs had no need for Blush face!

Even 60 secs is awesome. I’m currently sat on my arse with snacks. You’re a winner in my eyes.

Coldilox · 16/09/2019 09:46

Sarah Millican got me through the whole programme, can now happily run 5km. Took me longer than the 9 weeks as I repeated some runs if I didn’t feel ready to jump up to the next, but it did work. I miss her voice!

HannahLee · 16/09/2019 09:46

She actually recommends you have a banana Blush

Treaclepie19 · 16/09/2019 09:48

Haha!
I've only just graduated the app and I did sometimes feel the same Grin

DominicCummingsGilet · 16/09/2019 09:49

I’m disappointed Hannah! But I suppose that might be a bit counterproductive Grin

MaidenMotherCrone · 16/09/2019 09:49

Which app is it please Op?

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 16/09/2019 09:52

I use the Sarah one.I like her voice. However I just picture her sitting in a nice warm recording studio with a cup of tea, reading from a script. Does anyone know if the voice artists actually have to have done the c25K themselves to get the job? Jo Whitley I can imagine but Sarah, not so much...

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 09:53

I chose Michael Johnson for my voiceover. Despite being a fatty I love watching track and field and he is one of my favourite ever athletes. Plus, his voice is so lovely and calm and reassuring. I feel like I'm disappointing him if I don't run the distance as I huff round the park like a hippo.

I'm just about to start Week 9 ... it's taken me 20 weeks to get there though! I had to repeat lots of the early runs and we went on holiday halfway through. Keep going - it's so worth it, honestly!

silverystream · 16/09/2019 09:55

I didn't do c25k. Mainly because I heard people say how hard it is.Blush However I did discover slow jogging/niko niko running. Here:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9L2b2khySLE

On the first go I ran for half an hour! (Inside round our house). I then progressed to running outside after checking with DH I didn't look stupid running like this Grin He conformed I just looked like I was running (he is a regular runner) and went with me. I now run every day and have got much faster (9 and a half minute miles currently)without trying to. The longest time I have run for is about an hour.

My conclusion is technique makes a huge difference. So check your technique (and watch the clipWink).

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/09/2019 09:56

I'm tempted to download any app with Michael Johnson as the voice @dollydaydream114, he is my athletics hero. He may even get me off the couch!

AloeVeraLynn · 16/09/2019 10:01

I chose Michael Johnson for my voiceover.
I read this as Michael Jackson and really confused myself Grin

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 16/09/2019 10:02

That’s pretty much the speed I run when I do C25K @silverystream! There was a poster on here a while ago saying how hard it was and I am pretty sure she was trying to run too fast, so many beginners think they have to and it puts them right off.

I wonder what the back story is with that white lady in the video speaking native-sounding Japanese?

Marylou2 · 16/09/2019 10:08

Oh no she's the best! I wouldn't still be going if it wasn't for her soothing voice. Definitely couldn't be listening to a strident "you go girl!" type.

silverystream · 16/09/2019 10:09

I don't know. I sort of assumed she lived there or spent time living there. The man in it has written a book and I think she might have collaborated somehow. Her picture is in this article about it.

MaidenMotherCrone, it's the NHS Couch to 5K app.

Marylou2 · 16/09/2019 10:13

I haven't tried listening to Michael Johnson as I think he'd be ashamed at my tubby puffing. In my mind I'd have to be a Lycra clad goddess to listen to him 😀. Perhaps I should consider my mental health as well as my physical fitness.

Spudlet · 16/09/2019 10:13

This is my second round of C25K - I actually did a 10k but then I injured myself a while ago then got pregnant and with one thing and another, I haven't run for ages. It's not hard so long as you pace yourself. It doesn't matter if you are just barely jogging, the point is to start moving above a walk and just keep the wheels spinning, not to go for speed records. If you take that approach it's perfectly doable, IME.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/09/2019 10:13

Aw I liked SM but did often think she could easily turn very annoying. Choose another voice!!
