Lighthearted.
First day of c25k this morning.Im sweating, face like a beetroot and shes all motivating with her lovely voice going "are you ready for your next run?" "Only 2 runs to go" Hmm meanwhile I'm sweating like a pig thinking you fucking do it if it's that easy!! They are only 60min jogs with walking inbetween but its soo hard! Blush

I think I’ve found my people silverystream! I’m so slow compared to others, so I might as well embrace it. ❤️

WLmum · 16/09/2019 10:23

I used to imagine her watching me from afar with a cuppa and a bun, laughing while she encouraged me!

MissDew · 16/09/2019 10:31

I've got the mysterious Laura on my C25K sound track. I like her and oddly I like the fact that I don't know who she is.

I wouldn't like having a voice I recognised giving me instructions. I mean a famous person. As much as I like Sarah Millican I'd be a bit sceptical of her coaching me through C25K as she is part of the, 'fat and proud' brigade. Good on her.

As for Jo Wiley, I cannot stand that woman.

(As an aside, I used to tell my husband I'd get his Mum to do the voice commands on a personalised Sat-Nav for him. I mentioned it to his Mum, she seemed up for it !)

MaidenMotherCrone · 16/09/2019 10:33

Thanks @fiveleftfeet. I've just got it and will start when I get back from my holiday.

Treaclepie19 · 16/09/2019 10:33

@silverystream I'm really slow running but I've just kept telling myself if I complete the programme it's fine and I have.
Glad it's an actual thing!!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/09/2019 10:33

MrGs and Treacle, watching YouTube about running generally and you'll see slow running is definitely a thing. Want to get more athletey then call it 'Maffetone training' (the term my DH prefers) which allows for fat adaptation. A lots of ultra runners do this.Wink

Deathraystare · 16/09/2019 10:39

It would be good if you could personalise it !

"Deathray - put those caramel m&m's down." "What are you sitting on the bench for, you have just started!" ..and so on.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/09/2019 10:47

@Deathraystare lol or keep going you lazy bastard

Thanks @silverystream her story here, she’s Polish

MissDew · 16/09/2019 11:18

You mean Sarah Millican ? Good on ya !

If I had Sarah Millican on my C25K sound track I would keep expecting her to say something funny, but she wouldn't because that's not what C25K is about.

Her, 'Control Enthusiast' stand up show was excellent. Her voice can drill right through me sometimes though, as much as I like her.

MissDew · 16/09/2019 11:19

No, you mean Laura, which is why you said Laura. Oops, sorry. I need to wake up.

BananaPlant · 16/09/2019 11:20

I have Laura, she’s really calming. I’m not sure I could listen to Sarah M, she’s too squeaky.

SinkGirl · 16/09/2019 11:24

I switched to Jo Wiley and I'm so pleased I did. Really encouraging but down to earth with it.

For some reason by brain read this as Jo Brand. That would be a winner.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/09/2019 11:27

Jo Brand would be fab, as would Sandi Toksvig...

Noel Fielding would be great, if they let him do his weird surreal thing Grin

silverystream · 16/09/2019 11:29

Argumentative, thank you! I enjoyed reading that article. She seems like a really nice woman. Smile

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 11:38

I didn't do c25k. Mainly because I heard people say how hard it is.blush However I did discover slow jogging/niko niko running

If you go on the NHS's C25K forum (HealthUnlocked) slow jogging is what they recommend for people doing C25K. That exact video gets shared about ten times a day on there for people who are just starting out! And the voiceovers on the app keep reminding you at the start that it's a slow gentle jog.

Obviously C25K will be harder for some people than it is for others - it was hard for me at the start - but the whole point of it is to build up gradually. You can repeat runs/weeks as many times as you like and generally speaking, people who just find it impossible are trying to run too fast.

I am four or five stone overweight and in my 40s and I have never been able to run any distance in my life - even back when I was fit and slim I couldn't run. Plus, I had major, major anxiety/fear about exercising in public - I cried when I was walking to the park to attempt my first C25K run and I wore a cap and sunglasses so nobody could make eye contact with me. I had to repeat loads of C25K runs, especially in the first few weeks, before I could move on to the next level each time. But I'm now running for 28 minutes without stopping and I do about 3.8K in that time. This week I'm starting the final week and I should be running for 30mins each time. Then I'll build up to cover the full 5K distance so I can do my local Park Run.

PetraDelphiki · 16/09/2019 11:38

I couldn’t use that app - can’t bear any of the voices!!! There are other apps that just give you the info whento change run/walk etc which I use then listen to an audiobook!! But the program does work...I did 5k in 37:38 last week...from a year ago when the first weeks run nearly killed me!

Another vote for Niko Niko too...although I struggle to hold the speed down now it’s what got me going and through the 8 weeks! Will go back to it in the move to train to 10K (next year)...

PetraDelphiki · 16/09/2019 11:40

Oh and I regularly go back and repeat earlier runs just for a change of routine...you can use them todo sprint training or if you just feel like an easier day. Any day you run any distance is a success even if it’s not the “correct” run for that day.

silverystream · 16/09/2019 11:45

dolly, well, that is good. I didn't get so far as to looking it up on the NHS. The other year when I was sharing the clip it seemed pretty new to people.

But anyway, I'm a runner now and love it. I run every day. Smile

WonderWomansSpin · 16/09/2019 11:45

silvery I'm laughing at you getting your DH to check what you looked like when you were running. Grin
Mine says I look like Phoebe from Friends which is good enough reason for me to stay on the couch eating cake.

Hopesorfears · 16/09/2019 11:45

Laura all the way.
Though I did wonder about the zombie one, that might motivate me to speed up a bit

silverystream · 16/09/2019 11:55

Wonderwoman, well check the clip for techniqueWink My DH was bowled over. He loved that I was interested in running. I'm not a natural sportsperson (he loves sport) and don't intuitively get technique right first go. Was the same with skiing but loved it after good tuition and leaning correct technique.

cdtaylornats · 16/09/2019 11:55

I'd want a Jo Brand one

"Fuck it, go and have a cake".
