For asking to be called they/them?

OP posts:
Fairylea · 16/09/2019 07:01

Yanbu.

They (!) are an arse regardless. I know people that have met Smith and they say he’s very full of Sam Smith (!) and very much “don’t you know who I am” type.

purplepoop · 16/09/2019 07:07

YANBU.

Its a load of bollocks. You are biologically one or the other.

CoinOperatedBoy · 16/09/2019 07:11

I said this on the other thread. It's a publicity stunt. If he's stilling calling himself them/they in 5 years I'll take it all back and send him flowers. (I'll be impressed if he keeps it up a year).

Aroundnabout1 · 16/09/2019 07:13

So (genuine question) am I supposed to say:
"Sam Smith is coming for lunch but they are going to be late?" OR
"Sam Smith is coming for lunch but they is going to be late?".

ControversialFerret · 16/09/2019 07:17

It's a load of nonsense.

Him and her refer to your biological sex. Gender is a load of made-up crap. If you don't believe in those stereotypes then don't subscribe to them. Simple.

ZenNudist · 16/09/2019 07:38

It's not a good example for his young fans. No doubt more teens will pick up on this. Its bollocks. What we need is a sensible attitude to sex it isn't a spectrum. You either have male or female genitals, a very small minority are intersex.

It would help everyone if we could stop attaching gender to certain characteristics / adjectives.

Drogosnextwife · 16/09/2019 07:40

Yes it seems we will have to change the English language for a small minority of people. I wonder what they will do in places like France, where everything has a "gender", will they now eradicate "la" and "le" , and only use "les" I wonder.

NotBadConsidering · 16/09/2019 07:42

It’s utter bullshit. It’s trying to have influence how other people talk about him when he’s not even there, and the least important of what people say about him at that. It makes no sense.

“Please, I won’t/can’t complain if you call me an odious, sexist, self-absorbed cockwomble, plus all the other things I’ve been called on this thread, but don’t say ‘he’ or ‘him’ because that’s just the WORST.”

I call people like Rachel McKinnon, Yaniv, Karen White etc utter scumbags, but it’s the words he and him which are the most offensive? Give me a break...

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 16/09/2019 07:42

Yanbu.
Beyond ridiculous.
And I used to quite like him.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 16/09/2019 07:43

"It's not a good example for his young fans."

Does he have young fans? He's more for the middle aged, isn't he?

Amanduh · 16/09/2019 07:47

Yanbu. He is a man.

overnightangel · 16/09/2019 07:47

“Getting a bit sick of ridiculous celebrity culture ATM. They're so self obsessed and each cheers the others on to the next bit of ridiculousness. Whilst the plebs have to get on with real life.”

This in spades

Sexnotgender · 16/09/2019 07:49

They is being a sexist twat.

Morgomargot · 16/09/2019 07:51

YANBU I absolutely refuse to use them/they. It is plural and sounds ridiculous. Like listening to someone speak about themselves in the third person all the time. Either choose to be called it which is singular and to me the most obvious choice or invent a new pronoun but I refuse to use they/them.

ChattyLion · 16/09/2019 08:04

I hate the "it costs nothing" line. You know what really costs nothing? Not demanding that people change the entire English language because you have the sadz over being not entirely gender conforming, which is true of every single human being on the planet.

^^. This.

Gender stereotypes restricting people is the problem here.

Let’s all focus on letting men be as ‘feminine’ as they like and women as ‘masculine’ as they like- everybody is a mix of these stereotypes at any time anyway.. all they are is stereotypes. Clothes, colours, likes, dislikes, are not what make you actually a man or a woman though.

Sec is determined at when sperm meets egg and can’t ever be changed and humans only come in two biological sex types: female and male. Non-binary isn’t a thing, I get it as a protest against stereotypes but it actually props up stereotyping to make a third category like this.

I read an interview were he said people compared him to Adele because they don’t look like pop stars.
No Sam I compare you because you both have voices that make me want to rip my ears off

RushianDisney · 16/09/2019 10:01

He is just an old fashioned misogynist relabelling his hatred as wokeness. Tiresome, desperate and pathetic. And his pathetic nature is all his own, no reflection on womanhood as he seems to think.

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 16/09/2019 10:15

I actually adore this man. I say man because that’s what he is. He loves to wear dresses and heels and make up - who cares? I could understand this so much better if he said ‘yes I’m a man but sometimes I like to dress in women’s clothes and wear make up” I just don’t get this non binary stuff. I’m sorry, you’re either male or female, you cannot be both or neither. Dress how the hell you like but you are one or the other.

It genuinely scares me these parents who bring their children up gender neutral. I foresee a whole generation of very messed up teenagers. Sad

Isayheorsheyousaythey · 16/09/2019 13:04

The new song is called 'How do you sleep?'

It will be quite well as I am so tired of this kind of carry on.

I will be considerate as long as it works both ways. I'm all for acceptance and wants and rights but not at the expense of my rights. At the minute it is what the manz wants he gets.

I identify as weary.

I doubt any man would want to genuinely feel like a woman.

Who wants to feel oppressed, belittled, ignored. tired and fed up?
