For asking to be called they/them?

OP posts:
tizzybell · 18/09/2019 16:17

Honestly Roses, it's best to ignore them

I don't know why they're bringing up disabled people. Its an acknowledgment of the fact that they can't make a decent argument up in my opinion!

RosesAndRaindrops · 18/09/2019 16:19

Cross posted again with Crone this time*

why can't a disabled person, consider herself or himself to be 'born in the wrong body'? I would consider the disabled person to have a greater claim to that
Thanks for answering at least, unlike others that can't engage without discussing other views without attacks...(not DARVO, blah blah before someone starts, has been happening, can see on the thread)
Thought it might be something to do with that - that's not the same though to being trans or non binary though is it?
As your physical body is nothing to do with that.
Trans and binary must be something else entirely, an inate sense...
I know I don't speak for disabled people but I'd be pretty bloody offended if people perceived my body to be wrong and thought I felt I could be fixed.

VladmirsPoutine · 18/09/2019 16:20

"mad" "ugly" Grin straight from the MRA/TRA handbook. What a joke.

tizzybell · 18/09/2019 16:22

a disabled person can claim they were born in the wrong body if they so wish however I doubt may would want to... A lot of the disabled people I know are proud of their bodies and what they can do rather than what they can't. Its not the same for trans people, they suffer disproportionately with poor mental health as a result of the body they were born with.

tizzybell · 18/09/2019 16:23

yenooo tha @VladmirsPoutine

DontFeedTheCatCake · 18/09/2019 16:24

The life expectancy for a trans women of colour is 35

Could you tell me the background to that figure? Probably not.

I think you'll find it's in Brazil iirc for trans women most of whom were prostituted. So not exactly representative of trans women in general really. Still a shocking figure which highlights the violence of men, again.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Many women do not want trans women in women only spaces. These hard won legal right mustn't be given up. The rights of one group must never trample on another groups and that is what is currently happening. We live in a world where the YHA have decided that someone who identifies as a woman can share a dormitory with women. Any woman who has been sexually abused and struggles with this will have to ring up and disclose that advuise so the random person on the other end of the phone at the YHA can see if they can accommodate her needs. That's every kind of wrong.

Its actually the USA as well so...

OldCrone · 18/09/2019 16:28

I agree. And I also admit that my post where I asked the question was badly worded.

that's not the same though to being trans or non binary though is it?
As your physical body is nothing to do with that.

How can your physical body be nothing to do with being trans? If it's nothing to do with the physical body, what is the 'trans' about? I thought it was all about the mind not accepting the sexed body.

OldCrone · 18/09/2019 16:29

Its not the same for trans people, they suffer disproportionately with poor mental health as a result of the body they were born with.

Do you think the solution to this is to treat their mental health issues or to change their bodies?

TheAlternativeTentacle · 18/09/2019 16:32

oh behave feminism isn't about hating men!!! I am a feminist.

You write those words but i do not think you know what they mean.

Feminism is about centring women.

Loving men and making them the centre of the universe is not feminism.

RosesAndRaindrops · 18/09/2019 16:33

I’m bored. And I say that as someone with completely fuck all to do.

Amazing, says it all, why not actually just answer or engage instead of insult flinging and comments like this? Grin
Nobody's forcing you to read others views yanno.

OldCrone · 18/09/2019 16:34

The life expectancy for a trans women of colour is 35

What do they die of? Disease? Murder? Suicide? Accidents?

How many of them are killed by women? How many of them are killed by men?

VladmirsPoutine · 18/09/2019 16:34

Loving men and making them the centre of the universe is not feminism.

AMEN!

Which is why when discussing issues which will adversely affect women we don't need someone to helpfully inform us that 'men' also suffer from xyz. It defeats the purpose. Dear God, how do some people manage!

Gorse · 18/09/2019 16:35

Tizzybell. Even IF every trans woman met a violent death, you need to address the problem to MALES. It's not women's actions that are causing this. It's not even happening much in the UK. Making women less safe will not help anyone.

ameliathomas84 · 18/09/2019 16:39

I don't understand what some of these responses have got to do with any of it, and it's mostly dramatising things, however sorry but I think it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!
If your born a man and want to be a man be a man or be a women or be in between or be none really be what you want to be without prejudice, everyone can be what they want , however don't make stupid requests of been called they or whatever it is he requests to be called! Love Sam Smith but since hearing this I just think what a over dramatic, attention seeker! Honestly children are born boy or girl! No in between! Then when there old enough to decide how they want to live their life they can live it however they wish! But this non-gender rubbish drives me insane!

OldCrone · 18/09/2019 16:40

It's not even happening much in the UK.

A large proportion of the males who transition in the UK are well over 35 when they start their transition. The typical profile seems to be middle-aged heterosexual man, often married with children.

HandsOffMyRights · 18/09/2019 16:43

Sam Smith is still being ridiculous.
Like the MRAs on this thread.

RosesAndRaindrops · 18/09/2019 16:46

Thanks for answering my questions Roses. But I still don't understand your position.I asked about religion because I wondered who it was that you believed 'meant' this person to be something else. Surely only a god could 'mean' a person to be something other than what they are.

Sorry, just seen this - I meant the previous poster's friend at school, her view, what she always felt she was meant to be.
For clarity I'm using the her pronoun as that's presumably what she was when she was at school before ridiculous misgendering accusation gets thrown out again.
Definitely wasn't coming at it from a religious point of view if that's how it read! Smile

The 35 figure you quoted doesn't include the USA so I'm not sure what your point is. There is a world wide problem with male violence against women and other men. That isn't limited to, or focused specifically on, trans women. Male violence is the overarching issue and it is of course the reason why we must protect safe spaces for women.

*OldCrone. Midlife crisis age, eh? How handy to wait until they're well set up in life.

tizzybell · 18/09/2019 17:14

Feminism is absolutley not about centring women It’s absolute equality between sexes ???
