For asking to be called they/them?

OP posts:
HugsAreMyDrugs · 18/09/2019 13:06

Who exactly is Gary from Berkshire?

birdsdestiny · 18/09/2019 13:06

We give up the right not to defined by stereotypes like the ones that poured out of Sam Smith's mouth. The idea that heels and fat around the middle are 'female' qualities.
So for example if a black person was complaining about the stereotypes being put forward by a white person, I would support them rather than tell them they weren't being progressive enough.

VladmirsPoutine · 18/09/2019 13:09

And what of all his young fans who will also declare themselves 'non-binary' with no insight as to what it really means or entails. So what next?? Puberty blockers as they aren't sure if they are a boy or a girl yet or maybe even neither. So we're forgoing science then... OK
A trans-lesbian? This ideology is going to land us with a deluge of mentally disturbed and undeveloped young adults because they went along with this nonsense.

RosesAndRaindrops · 18/09/2019 13:12

And what of all his young fans who will also declare themselves 'non-binary' with no insight as to what it really means or entails.

See, I find that a daft assumption and the exact same argument used about being gay in the past!
As in "shouldn't let people say they're gay/come out as gay, all kids will want to be it then!"
Like catch the gay, only catch the non binary!

That is not my view towards gay people or anything before somebody takes offence, just pointing out the obvious comparison lol

You only have to remember when you were back at school and the trends and fashions that were going around.

Self harm by girls was something that feared its ugly head in my sisters year - but not in mine. My year was full of goths.

RosesAndRaindrops · 18/09/2019 13:20

How the hell does it erase straight people? Confused
I mean, I'm not going to feel any less validated or like I don't exist anymore as a straight person just because I've heard about non binary?!
I'd still be straight and me.
(Apologies if you meant something else by that comment)

NoNewsisGood · 18/09/2019 13:22

It's interesting how the weight thing is forward in his mind, yet how many women has he actually looked at while outside his home? Which of us put weight on in the same places? Are we not always moaning to each other that it never seems to go in the right place, yet we are all different? Also, what about around the world who are also different body shapes and sizes? Men...trying to explain to women about what their bodies are like.....there's a reason 'womansplaining' is not yet a word....

@RosesAndRaindrops Being gay is nothing at all like being 'non-binary'. The extent to which this insidious dangerous ideology is seeking to corrupt genuine sexualities, biology, lived experiences in order to justify itself is truly shattering.

Being 'non-binary' is a made up term... to mean what exactly? That you sometimes like wearing dresses and once went to a weight-watchers meeting? Much like the concept of 'cis'. I am not a 'cis' woman. I am just a woman. If they can redefine womanhood then 'woman' ceases to carry any meaning.

It's not difficult to grasp this!

NoTheresa · 18/09/2019 13:29

they/them’ means plural.

Precisely. There can be no argument about that.

Is there any need to be so patronising? I'm entitled to not always agree.
I've even said they and their pronouns hurts my head as it's plural, so at least we agree on that lol

DontFeedTheCatCake · 18/09/2019 13:31

personally the comments about 'women & girls space' etc are just weird. What spaces are these? Public toilets?? What the actual fuck! Enlighten me!

Since you asked so nicely:

Rape crisis centres (Google Vancouver Rape Relief & Women's Shelter)
Women's refuges (I've forgotten the name of the refuge in Scotland, but will come back)
Women's prisons (Google Karen White)
Women's toilets (Google Katie Dolatowski)
Women's changing rooms (too many to even know where to start)
Women's officer roles within organisations (Google David Lewis who exposed the madness rather well)
Women's sport (google Rachel McKinnon)

HTH

VladmirsPoutine · 18/09/2019 13:33

I've heard all the old worn out arguments used... that we're just feminazis.. or this is the last frontier of acceptable discrimination. But think of where this all ends. If a man can also sometimes be a woman then where does that lead to?

Think of women's sporting competitions, women-only spaces, women-only grants/funding, women-focused representation. If I concede that anyone can be a woman then the concept of 'woman' becomes worthless and meaningless as it can mean everything yet nothing.

A lot of these men are exploring their femininity with dresses and lipstick. Not sure about all you other women but certainly as much as I love dresses and lipstick I seem to be a lot more concerned with protecting hard-won rights we women had to fight for. Have I been doing it wrong?

VladmirsPoutine · 18/09/2019 13:34

@RosesAndRaindrops Forgive me. I had no intention of coming across as patronising at all. I'm just exasperated as we've been round in circles on this thread.

RosesAndRaindrops · 18/09/2019 13:38

No worries, didn't mean to jump down your throat, just feeling a bit got at whenever I post lately so sorry if I came across as snippy Smile

zafferana · 18/09/2019 13:39

I find they and them really confusing - they're both plurals - how can one person be referred to accurately using a plural pronoun? It's attention seeking nonsense IMO. But then I don't believe in 'trans', because I don't believe that anyone is born in the 'wrong' body. There are just many shades of what it means to be human. Some feel strongly one or the other, others less so, doesn't mean you're the opposite sex.

SilverySurfer · 18/09/2019 13:43

I've never heard of him but he's obviously an attention seeking arse. If only I had his e-mail I could give him a clue about what most sensible people think by sending him the attached - in other words - nobody gives a fuck what he calls himself.

To think Sam Smith is being ridiculous?
tizzybell · 18/09/2019 13:44

@zafferana what do you mean you don't believe it? Have you proven this somehow?

Also, if your feminism doesn't include trans women, you're no feminist

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/09/2019 13:44

Why would feminism include males?

tizzybell · 18/09/2019 13:46

Feminism actually does consider men

For example, the idea that toxic masculinity prevents men from opening up and therefore leads to higher levels of suicide is a feminist ideology which fights for men to be allowed to express emotion in the same way as women. Since you asked nicely

VladmirsPoutine · 18/09/2019 13:47

Also, if your feminism doesn't include trans women, you're no feminist

Then I'm no feminist either. My feminism isn't concerned with biological men in wigs, dresses and lipstick. A hard fact for me to swallow but I think somehow I'll manage it Smile

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/09/2019 13:47

I said ‘include’ not ‘consider’.
