To report to school what my DD told me about this lunchtime supervisor?

Namechangingforthis2019 · 14/09/2019 14:03

Dd(8) told me that yesterday she saw a lunchtime supervisor take a fish finger off the tray at the serving hatch with her fingers and eat it. Dd said no other adults saw, she has seen this staff member do this before.
Would you email school and pass on what dd said?

A few bits of context -

  • I believe dd, she is not likely to have made this up
  • lunchtime supervisor has been working there about 30 years. She’s very harsh with the kids (based on what dd has told me) and anecdotally other parents have said even the staff are a bit scared of her!
  • school has an outbreak of norovirus last week so have been very hot on infection control, washing hands etc.

I know she probably didn’t touch anyone else’s food, but it’s not right is it? If nothing else it’s unprofessional and sets a bad example to the kids. But I don’t want to bother the school if it’s not really a big deal.

Would you report it or leave it?

Yabu = I should not report it
yanbu = I should email the school about it

Note: Mint sauce obviously isn't a fish pun I just fucking love mint sauce.

TheNestedIf · 16/09/2019 15:34

@ThatCurlyGirl

Nice. I doff my carp.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/09/2019 15:43

OP, why do you think this is anything other than something to tell your daughter to mind her own business about? I would have been told off by my if I'd 'reported' something as petty as this - and rightly so.

What makes your daughter think it's something to report? Is it that you are 'that sort of parent' who is always twitching curtains and 'up the school'?

You are raising a snitch who clearly can't tell the difference between what's important and what isn't... because you seemingly can't either.

ThatCurlyGirl · 16/09/2019 15:47

@TheNestedIf

@KUGA I meant the OP could get another kind of finger from the school . Lol

FabLaura · 16/09/2019 17:27

Yabu = I should not report it

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/09/2019 16:26

This thread has been the (tartare) source of some of the best puns ever!

I thank you all!!!

Devora13 · 17/09/2019 20:16

I understand your concern. This person sounds like a bully and thinks she can get away with what she wants. BUT-if anything is ever going to be done about her, taking a fish finger as reported by an 8 year old is not the way to go.

Happygilmorelove · 17/09/2019 20:24

Haha. Is this for real? Now I see what people mean when they talk about oversensitive "snowflakes".

lifeinthedeep · 17/09/2019 20:37

I’m sure stealing a fish finger is going to cause a viral outbreak!

bellabasset · 17/09/2019 21:04

Thanks for all the puns🎂

Catering staff should have a hygiene certificate but eating food while serving would trigger a concern, especially as there has been a recent outbreak of norovirus. Ideally staff preparing and serving food should wear fresh uniform laundered at 60°. Some staff launder their uniforms at home at 30° with other clothing, wear them to and from work, may do housework wearing them.

Eating a fish finger isn't an issue but the circumstances could be.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 17/09/2019 21:21

As far as i can see from the op, the fishfinger napper isnt catering staff

opinionminion · 17/09/2019 23:15

*Rufusthebewilderedreindeer

I think you have a valid point* Confused

TheNestedIf · 18/09/2019 01:55

I liked that one SchadenfreudePoissonifried.

Yup. Still at it.

lolo99 · 27/09/2019 19:10

Oh my! So your daughter has always washed her hands thoroughly after picking her nose, touching her hair, skin, face, been to the loo? If not...she will have put germs on the table, handles, books, chairs......get a grip. She am sure spreads her own germs herself! Why are you getting your daughter to report back to you? She needs to do more clubs and develop a happier soul.

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 27/09/2019 21:19

The op leads a sheltered life if this is the least of her problem

Aoibhneas · 27/09/2019 21:24

No I should not be reported ffs
Get a life

Mella91 · 28/09/2019 07:19

You are the sort of parent we teachers despise to be honest.

It seems you have taught your daughter to spend her day spying around looking for something to snitch to keep mummy occupied through her day. At 8 years of age something like that would not have caught my interest enough to run home and tell mummy.

The bad news is each day she will think of something new to report to mummy and when she cannot find anything she will start making things up just to keep mummy happy!

Strawberrycreamsundae · 28/09/2019 07:57

I still can't work out how helping herself to a single fish finger equates to the possibility of passing on Norovirus, it's not like she sucked off the breadcrumbs and put it back 😳
Telling tales is a singularly unpleasant trait OP.
