To report to school what my DD told me about this lunchtime supervisor?

Namechangingforthis2019 · 14/09/2019 14:03

Dd(8) told me that yesterday she saw a lunchtime supervisor take a fish finger off the tray at the serving hatch with her fingers and eat it. Dd said no other adults saw, she has seen this staff member do this before.
Would you email school and pass on what dd said?

A few bits of context -

  • I believe dd, she is not likely to have made this up
  • lunchtime supervisor has been working there about 30 years. She’s very harsh with the kids (based on what dd has told me) and anecdotally other parents have said even the staff are a bit scared of her!
  • school has an outbreak of norovirus last week so have been very hot on infection control, washing hands etc.

I know she probably didn’t touch anyone else’s food, but it’s not right is it? If nothing else it’s unprofessional and sets a bad example to the kids. But I don’t want to bother the school if it’s not really a big deal.

Would you report it or leave it?

Yabu = I should not report it
yanbu = I should email the school about it

The OP isn't going to be THAT parent now she's had a chance to mullet over.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 15/09/2019 21:21

Your child should learn not to tell tales. Weve all done it. Its not the end of the world. She must of been hungry for gods sake. Anyway who can refuse a fish finger. And harsh with kids?!?! Your complaining. Its what kids need these days. Discipline and respect for authority is lost due to prissy parents. O dont speak to my boy like that bla bla

ymf117 · 15/09/2019 21:22

Some of these replies are a bit harsh on the OP, whilst I think leave it alone and don't contact the school, I don't think the abuse is necessary. It is essentially bad hygiene practices, especially if this is what she's doing in plain sight. I bet most people that have berated the OP on here would be the first ones to complain if they saw the waitress do this in a restaurant.

If's it's anything like my kids school they will offer 2 or 3 FF's to each child so is probably eating all the spares they would have cooked in anticipation, quite a perk really and better than food waste, but maybe at the end of the shift.

Also can't believe some of the comments on the DD, I'd take the positives that this is the most scandalous thing to happen in her school day and also the positive that she does see the right and wrong in this, to me it sounds like she'd put her morals above any greed or selfishness which I wish more kids did.

jmh740 · 15/09/2019 21:27

I dont understand your issue is it because she touched the food? I work in a school and often touch childrens food, cutting things up, peeling fruit, opening yogurts, the people serving food dont wear gloves.

loveautum · 15/09/2019 21:30

Honestly I haven't laughed so much as I've laughed reading this thread some of the responses are hilarious. This has made my Sunday 😂😂😂

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 15/09/2019 21:30

I've long said that 8 year olds are the world's police officers.

Important stuff aside, we need to help them learn perspective.

parkrunhun · 15/09/2019 21:47

My new go to phrase when someone gets themselves worked up over some minor ridiculous matter...

I don't give a fishfinger Grin

snop · 15/09/2019 21:52

A fish finger 🤣 this has to be a wind up, it's not like she sole the crown jewels. It may have been leftover and was going in the bin anyway.

Lvsel · 15/09/2019 21:54

One fish finger and not two? Should be on most wanted

Palaver1 · 15/09/2019 21:54

I so so love this thread

I have pissed myself laughing.
Thanks mumsnetters your the best xx

PenguinsRabbits · 15/09/2019 22:07

Presume OP has spent the day reporting this at the Plaice Station.

Hopefully PC Cod is now on the case of the fishing fishfinger.

TheQuaffle · 15/09/2019 22:16

Haha you’re probably That Mum at your DD’s school Grin

TheNestedIf · 15/09/2019 22:17

Look. Can we leave it now? The OP has admitted she's been a bit of a sprat.

parentin · 15/09/2019 22:33

Maybe more mentally challenging extra activities for the both of you.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 15/09/2019 22:39

Tell tale little tit is what my mother would of called your precious one.
Dont encourage it. Shit stirrers as they are known in adult years are never liked very much. Go have a fish finger babe you no you want to....

TheNestedIf · 15/09/2019 22:40

Maybe more mentally challenging extra activities for the both of you.

But the OP could only manage that if she was squids in.

carsonforPM · 15/09/2019 22:53

Those of you that work in schools will be keeping a close eye on the lunch time supervisors and the pesky 8 yr olds 🤣

carsonforPM · 15/09/2019 22:54

Maybe more mentally challenging extra activities for the both of you.

Perhaps fishing ?

Notthebradybunch · 15/09/2019 23:08

You need to concentrate on other things OP, a fish finger ffs, I have a grip for you, hold it tight, both hands please!!

Jogonandshutup · 15/09/2019 23:35

Don’t report this - how embarrassing (for you not the lunch supervisor!)

TheNestedIf · 15/09/2019 23:50

I'd be so embarrassed I'd be thinking kill minnow.

OmniversalsTapdancingTadpole · 16/09/2019 00:15

Really?

Rachelover60 · 16/09/2019 00:23

Ah well, an eye for an eye and all that.
In this case a finger for a fish finger.
Keep an eye out (no pun intended) for a teacher with a heavily bandaged hand.

Patroclus · 16/09/2019 01:11

Have you consuted the geneva convention?
