Just been released

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/831199/20190802_Latest_Yellowhammer_Planning_assumptions_CDL.pdf

And I wonder what Number 15 is. It's been redacted.

So much to highlight:

Impact of food and fuel prices on poorer people.
Impact exacerbated due to winter flu issues at that time of year
Lorries delayed and flow reduced to 40 - 60%

And I'm only on page 1

@SusieOwl4 I agree.

I also think a lot of problems were caused by the government setting it as an advisory referendum but then saying they would follow the outcome of it, whilst everyone assumed that Remain would have the majority.

If it had been a binding referendum then it is more likely that a cut off percentage would have been set before changing the status quo and also that more people would have actually voted. Over 60% of voters didn't vote for leave and they'll still be negatively affected.

I really wish we had politicians with the guts to acknowledge what an avoidable mess this all is. I can't believe it is legal for them to be doing this to the country!

SteelRiver · 11/09/2019 22:26

I'm not just interested in how I will be affected; I'm concerned about how people from all walks of life will be affected, businesses, schools, hospitals, universities, drugs etc etc. I'll have a read through now and probably end up really anxious!

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 11/09/2019 22:27

Hilarious, ThomasRichard. Even funnier when juxtaposed with posters who are worried about getting vital medication. You are a wag.

PhilSwagielka · 11/09/2019 22:28

@SteelRiver Me too. I've got friends with some pretty severe chronic conditions, such as CF or immune system disorders, one of whom requires infusions very frequently. She's terrified. Of course, she gets laughed at by Brexiters too.

Throckmorton · 11/09/2019 22:28

Can I just put in a plea for people to donate to food banks please. There will be people facing extreme hardship when Brexit happens.

chomalungma · 11/09/2019 22:31

I work in the social care sector. Winter is already hard enough for many people, and there are staffing issues as well as massive funding issues. The Government has prevaricated over social care for ages and it's only getting worse.

We are all getting older. Many people have elderly relatives and there are also many people who have little help from relatives and rely on the State for help.

Brexit is something this sector does not need.

I love Mumsnet.

I have been scouring for this doc - should have known where to come first

Songsofexperience · 11/09/2019 22:32

Sick of the whole debacle. It's a balls up brexit.

mumwon · 11/09/2019 22:32

I am old enough to remember 3 day week & the Oil embargo & the miners strike - electricity blackouts etc & I cannot for the life of me is how so many people of my age & older cant remember these & deny that it could possibly reoccur under Brexit because of course us remoaners are exaggerating & hysterical -yeah right. You can fool all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you cant fool all of the people all of the time.

Venger · 11/09/2019 22:32

Riots in the street', eh? That'll be fucked off citizens hunting down Brexit voters.

The opposite is more likely to be true. It'll be Leave voters blaming Remain voters for their current hardships because they didn't "believe" enough. If only they'd believed then Brexit would have been all sunshine and lollipops. Johnson has already been laying the groundwork for it with all his talk of surrender, betrayal, and traitors. When the Leave voters are hungry (along with many other people) and cold and angry, they'll be putting bricks through the windows of the nearest Remainer household.

It's all going to come to a head before October, isnt it? Something is going to happen, I've no idea what but it's all building to something.

Songsofexperience · 11/09/2019 22:35

And apparently we're in for a harsh winter this year...

TooTrueToBeGood · 11/09/2019 22:37

I might have to walk more rather than drive and spend more on food. For a few weeks.
Very worst case scenario with fuel - my husband would have to cycle to work instead of driving.
I honestly cannot see any further impact to us. We are lucky not to need any regular medications and I really feel for those who do and are concerned.

If there are fuel shortages the personal impact to you will be a great deal more than your husband having to bike to work. How do you think all the goods and produce (those that we will actually still have a ready supply of) get to the shops? How do you think everyone that doesn't live close enough to work to walk or cycle will get to their job? What do you think the impact on crime levels might be if people are struggling to get essentials and/or aren't getting paid because they can't get to work? What do they do with the schools if enough teachers can't cycle in and if they close them what's likely to happen with all those kids with nowhere to go? What about the hospitals and GP surgeries when half the staff can't get in? Refuse collection - bin lorries need fuel too don't they? emergency services restricted to essential mileage only?

Of all the possible scenarios in Yellowhammer, fuel shortages are probably the worst because they have a knock-on effect on just about everything else.

terraform · 11/09/2019 22:38
  1. "Low income groups will be disproportionately affected by any price rises in food and fuel"

but ra ra ra project fear it's just scaremongering WE'RE TAKING BACK CONTROL etc

God please give Scotland independence now and let us get away from this collective fuckwittage

chomalungma · 11/09/2019 22:38

Do people remember the fuel shortage in 2000? The country ground to a halt quite quickly.

Fuel shortage impacts all of us.

No body wants this

Why oh why

notangelinajolie · 11/09/2019 22:40

I haven't read anything that hasn't already been anticipated. Why is everyone so shocked? I don't think that running round like headless chickens is going to solve anything. It needs to be done - lets get on with it

Kolo · 11/09/2019 22:41

“We were wrong to assume that Remain voters would be able to cope with losing the vote, I’ll give you that.”

Could we not just say we’ve left on 31st? I don’t give a shit about winning or losing. Jysgvwsn

ChocChocButtons · 11/09/2019 22:42

Stop reading made up shit, made up to stir ppl into a frenzy. Honestly.

Kolo · 11/09/2019 22:43

Sent to soon....
Let’s tell the leave voters we’ve left, but not really leave. They won’t know the difference. Then they can gloat all they like about how nothing that was predicted came true and we can just nod.

Notonthestairs · 11/09/2019 22:43

Why would we want to get on with shortages, disruption and vulnerable people made more vulnerable?

Venger · 11/09/2019 22:45

Stop reading made up shit, made up to stir ppl into a frenzy. Honestly.

The government wrote this shit and didn't want to publish it. You do know that, right?

ChocChocButtons · 11/09/2019 22:46

@Kolo We could do that but then you would be living in a dictatorship. That is how North Korea treats its citizens. Feeds them lies and propaganda. So your ok with that are you?

Frequency · 11/09/2019 22:46

Stop reading made up shit, made up to stir ppl into a frenzy. Honestly

It's made up by the government you trust to administer an orderly Brexit, you understand that, right? It's not a remainer document. It was written by leavers. This is what they think is most likely to happen if we leave with no deal. That is what base case scenario means.

ifpossible · 11/09/2019 22:47

So fucking angry. Maybe supply these facts and actually negotiate a fucking deal BEFORE a referendum? No far too sensible. Just drive us all off a cliff instead.

If you read it there’s lots of may and could. No one will know until it happens what the actual impact will be.

If it was your child whose life depended on medication at risk of running short, would you be happy to just shrug your shoulders and say "oh well, there's lots of may and could"?
