Just been released

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/831199/20190802_Latest_Yellowhammer_Planning_assumptions_CDL.pdf

And I wonder what Number 15 is. It's been redacted.

So much to highlight:

Impact of food and fuel prices on poorer people.
Impact exacerbated due to winter flu issues at that time of year
Lorries delayed and flow reduced to 40 - 60%

And I'm only on page 1

Are posters still debating which title of the (not new) document is?

Ugh.

crawls back into bed and covers up under* blanket*

TheSlugAndLettuce · 12/09/2019 19:30

It's fucking insane...I say revoke A50, let the brexiteers riot, rioters imprisoned...simples

Havanananana · 12/09/2019 19:32

Leavers believe that the People are sovereign, Remainers believe that Parliament is sovereign

The UK is a representative, parliamentary democracy, and as such it is Parliament that is sovereign.

Remainers are A1 OK with individual states subsuming themselves into a European superstate; Leavers want to be able to vote their law makers in and vote them out.

The individual states are not subsuming themselves into a superstate and each country has a veto. As a Europhile, I support the idea of 28 States acting together for the common good, but I also believe that the EU could be improved.

Most of the laws passed in the UK come from the UK Parliament. EU laws are passed by the elected representatives, MEPs, which include British MEPs. It is the British second chamber, the House of Lords, which is not elected (see May's latest list of enobled cronies) and the UK does not have an elected Head of State.

Dutch1e · 12/09/2019 19:47

@FreshFreesias

Dutch1e
but the EU is not a `club', it is a political union.

Yes I know, are you mixing me up with the poster I quoted?

ChocChocButtons · 12/09/2019 20:04

I’m too busy stock piling my air raid shelter with chocolate...

WaterSheep · 12/09/2019 20:06

I’m too busy stock piling my air raid shelter with chocolate...

Well at least you acknowledge it's stockpiling, not panic buying.

ChocChocButtons · 12/09/2019 20:08

It is defo also panic buying if I ran out of chocolate I would be panicking. 😂

FreshFreesias · 12/09/2019 20:25

Sorry @Dutch1e.

TheSlugAndLettuce · 12/09/2019 20:27

Yellowhammer is only the base scenario...black swan is the worst case scenario...not been released to the public, but rumours it will be leaked. Bojo threw up when he read it...allegedly.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 12/09/2019 20:32

I've added to it slightly since I took the photo but this is my Christmas chocolate stash so far. I don't have a brexit chocolate stash because we ate it over Easter. I'll be getting some treats in though over the next month. I ha e pretty much everything else I need in my stash now so if no deal is confirmed then I'll start stocking up on treats. I do have some biscuits though. Enough to last 4 days the way my children get through them!

Does anyone know if you can freeze the sort of chorizo you cook?? I cannot live on beans alone...

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 12/09/2019 20:36

Yes you can.

I'm freezing butter as well.

FreshFreesias · 12/09/2019 20:37

Frothing-at-the-bit-Remainers may take cheer from the CEO of UK Major Ports Group who says that they are ready, deal or no deal, as has the head of Calais.

Meanwhile, the man who used to run the Customs terminal at the Port of Dover told Iain Dale that the reports of huge delays following a no-deal Brexit are very wide of the mark.

`Robert called in to LBC after hearing a caller warn of chaos at the borders if the UK leaves the EU without any agreement.
And he insisted that if there are any issues, they will be on the Calais side, not the Dover one.
Speaking about reports of food shortages, he said: "I think you're going to have to go out of your way to be delayed. A consignment from Europe has a document which is then lodged at the port.
"It will then arrive in Dover in transit, exactly like it is today. Your first import declaration in a no-deal Brexit environment is due at the end of six months. You've got six months to do the import entry.
"In a no-deal plan, the only thing that's going to have any difference from today is the EU exporter needs to raise an export declaration. That's the end of Brexit no-deal planning."

However, I have no idea whether there will be a life-threatening run on avocadoes, olives or worst case scenario, shortage of baristas to make coffee at Pret a Manger

Help!

Songsofexperience · 12/09/2019 20:40

Bread too

Notonthestairs · 12/09/2019 20:42

If that is all true why on earth doesn't the Yellowhammer (base scenario) report reflect that? Government lies about how bad it will be - makes zero sense.

chomalungma · 12/09/2019 20:43

Meanwhile, the man who used to run the Customs terminal at the Port of Dover told Iain Dale that the reports of huge delays following a no-deal Brexit are very wide of the mark

Well in that case, I look forward to the report from Government explaining what they expect is most likely to happen.

A likelihood of events happening. Because I am sure they have done that.

Chances of Dover to Calais running normally.
Chances of traffic flow being reduced to 50% of normal
Chances of traffic flow being significantly reduced.

I am sure they have those figures somewhere - based on all the work they have done.

Bread takes up too much space. You need something that will use the freezer real estate wisely.

Powerof4 · 12/09/2019 20:55

Sorry, wrong thread Blush

TonTonMacoute · 12/09/2019 20:58

God, you're all so gullible - or perhaps you just want it to be true? You seriously think it's going to worse than when war broke out? Get real!

TidyDancer · 12/09/2019 20:58

I'm quite surprised at the amount of people who think this yellowhammer document is scaremongering or protect fear. They do realise it's produced by the government, right?

chomalungma · 12/09/2019 21:02

You seriously think it's going to worse than when war broke out

Brexit - it's not as bad as when war broke out.

OP posts:
burnttoastandjam · 12/09/2019 21:03

@TheSlugAndLettuce how do you know that? (The thought of him puking makes me smile a little)

ChocChocButtons · 12/09/2019 21:04

@TonTonMacoute it’s not scaremongering it’s gonna be like the walking dead!! No one is having my Chocolate! Or my air raid shelter!!

Notonthestairs · 12/09/2019 21:05

Wasn't Brexit supposed to be easy and make things better - not lead to reports of impact for families on low incomes being hit by food and fuel prices.

Septembersunrays · 12/09/2019 21:16

Calais said it would be fine as well. Neither side of channel wants delays.

Op which part of this gridlocked parliament do you think can honour democratic vote and come up with working solutions?

Hasn't jezza been rapped by sturgeon for being more interested in his campaign poster than brexit.
