Just been released

And I wonder what Number 15 is. It's been redacted.

So much to highlight:

Impact of food and fuel prices on poorer people.
Impact exacerbated due to winter flu issues at that time of year
Lorries delayed and flow reduced to 40 - 60%

And I'm only on page 1

why would the French government want to hamper EU truck drivers or prevent the UK from exporting billions of pounds of medicines to the EU? We do manufacture and export a lot of medicines to the EU by the way.

Because until you stop the truck, examine the paperwork, check the load to ensure that what's on the document is what's actually in the trailer, you don't know for certain what is being carried. And if they really want to get strict, they will check that the truck itself, and the driver, are licensed and suitable to enter the EU.

It is about keeping the EU free of counterfeit goods, smuggled goods, non-compliant goods, contaminated goods and so on, and about keeping unsafe trucks and drivers off EU roads. This happens at every EU/Non-EU border, and from 1st November it will happen at Calais/Eurotunnel/Hook of Holland/Zeebrugge etc as well. It's called 'taking control of the border' which is something every Brexiter is supposed to be so keen on.

Indeed, people involved in illegal activities thrive on chaos and confusion amongst officials

Blue565 · 12/09/2019 14:54

So, even knowing that Brexit will supposedly destroy the economy, EU nationals are queuing up to settle here.

They are already fucking settled here for fucks sake, the UK is there home and what the leavers have voted for will see them kicked out of the country unless they do exactly this.

It's not complicated ffs

Blue565 · 12/09/2019 14:55

their home* Blush

pointythings · 12/09/2019 14:56

I am one of those EU nationals who has applied for and obtained settled status, for myself and my DDs. Doesn't mean we aren't planning to leave when our ducks are lined up. It's just another way of prepping.

HollowTalk · 12/09/2019 14:58

Just revoke article 50 and let the brexiters riot.

There’ll be riots either way. So I’ll take the scenario where will have a steady supply of medicine.

This is what I think. Whatever happens it's going to be a nightmare for a while but if we revoke article 50 then at least things will be OK afterwards. There are going to be riots either way.

Deathgrip · 12/09/2019 14:59

So, even knowing that Brexit will supposedly destroy the economy, EU nationals are queuing up to settle here. That's because they aren't listening to all the pathetic scaremongering that we are subject to. Maybe they are more educated?
Do you know any EU nationals who live in the UK? They’re much more concerned than the British people on this thread.

U.K. births have dropped quite considerably and EU nationals leaving in their droves is one of the reasons.

The main driver of an economy is confidence and only the constant whinging and scare-mongering will cause problems with Brexit.

This is the most delusional nonsense I’ve read yet.

This is their home and Brexit completely screws them over. It's utterly shameful.

I know quite a few EU citizens - most seem quite blase about the situation.

Membership of a bloc representing 500m people gives the UK far more bargaining power than a country of 60m trying to negotiate with the USA, China, India, the EU and all of the other large trading blocs.

The beef farmers in Ireland are not very happy with the latest EU trade deal;

"The EU's new deal with the Mercosur bloc of South American countries will "decimate" the beef market here, according to the Irish Farmers' Association."

www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2019/0630/1059319-beef-mercosur/

This Greenpeace article highlights the difficulties of negotiating as a bloc;

"The final stage of the negotiations led to a row between countries with a large agricultural sector (led by France, and including Ireland, Poland and Belgium) and more export-oriented countries, like Germany, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Latvia. The group led by France says European agriculture is threatened by additional imports of agricultural products with lower standards, while the group led by Germany wants the trade agreement completed to open up export opportunities for their car and car parts industries."

Test run in France today

"France is ready... these tests prove it," Darmanin told journalists after the exercise, expressing confidence that "there won't be any traffic jams in France."

"To ease trade disruptions, France has spent some €40 million and hired 700 extra customs officers."

"Authorities have scrambled to set up a "smart border" with cameras to scan the license plates of trucks heading to Britain and automatically link them to shipping documents filled out online by exporters."

LimitIsUp · 12/09/2019 15:12

I am watching Afternoon Live on the BBC news channel and they persist in calling Yellowhammer the worst case scenario

Havanananana · 12/09/2019 15:20

"France is ready... these tests prove it," Darmanin told journalists after the exercise, expressing confidence that "there won't be any traffic jams in France."

Little ferry arrives at little port, with the French Minister Darmanin, Michael Gove and the media all in attendance. Of course it went well - nobody is going to risk fucking up with everyone watching. It will be interesting to see how it works with the volumes of traffic crossing at Calais and Dunkirk.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/09/2019 15:21

Sky news is also calling it the worst case scenario. I’m not watching the bbc or sky today because it gave me the rage this morning.

Clavinova · 12/09/2019 15:24

nobody is going to risk fucking up with everyone watching

I should think not - since "France has spent some €40 million and hired 700 extra customs officers."

Tanith · 12/09/2019 15:25

I wonder what they'll call it when Black Swan (which is rumoured to be the worst case scenario) is leaked, as it seems it may be soon?

The worst worst case scenario, perhaps? Hmm

bellinisurge · 12/09/2019 15:26

A worst case scenario that doesn't mention anything that relates to national security isn't actually a worst case scenario document.

ContinuityError · 12/09/2019 15:28

And also from Clav's link:

As French officers directed lines of passenger cars toward passport controls and customs declarations, others boarded lorries and began cutting open boxes of baby pacifiers for sanitary checks.

"Up until now, they are supposed to conform with EU norms," a customs agent told AFP.

"So either the British keep doing so, or they apply norms that are less restrictive and in that case, we'll inspect them just as we would with Chinese or American products," she said.

A no-deal Brexit is possible on October 31st, meaning France will have to start inspections on a wide range of goods arriving from Britain for the first time in 46 years.

Ooops.

CuteOrangeElephant · 12/09/2019 15:29

I have settled status and I am moving back to my homeland next year. Just because I have settled status doesn't mean that I want to stay here.

Graphista · 12/09/2019 15:29

"If they had indeed ironed out the issues, they would be crowing about it from the rooftops" exactly!

Why on earth do leavers think that if this govt DID have a decent grip on it all - or even ANY of it! - they wouldn't be making that really bloody clear?! With proof! Of course they would! Utterly ridiculous to think they would be hiding successful planning and negotiation.

And the idea that all civil servants (of which there are bloody thousands working directly in parliament alone) have the same political persuasion is totally ridiculous! In addition to think they would not do their jobs properly because of those opinions is fucking insulting! They reflect the population as a whole, there will be Remainers, leavers and no deal leavers within the civil service.

I've worked in the civil service, those that do take their roles seriously AND are very thoroughly vetted for any hint of allowing bias to affect their work.

STILL (after THREE YEARS) yet to see ONE reasonable argument FOR brexit...

LimitIsUp · 12/09/2019 15:30

Does it look like Black Swan will be leaked?

Havanananana · 12/09/2019 15:44

He said France was "ready", but he said he remained a "a bit worried about how the British are preparing" as the government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson published alarming documents warning of Brexit queues and disruption.

Darmanin making sure that he gets his excuses in first - if there are delays and queues, he wants it to be known that it won't be down to the French.

pikapikachu · 12/09/2019 15:46

Very naive to assume that they have ironed out the problems since last month. If there was more fresh food being grown, Dover's capacity increased or more people being at Dover to process trucks then we'd see evidence of that in forms of job adverts, building work etc

www.itv.com/news/wales/2019-04-04/4m-of-nhs-supplies-stockpiled-in-secret-warehouse-in-preparation-for-brexit/

Suggests that some preparations have been done but there are medications that can't be stockpiled because of a limited half-life.

CatkinToadflax · 12/09/2019 16:24

Bloody hell, there’s no reasoning with Stupid is there.

One of my FB friends - who voted Leave and appears to still think it’s a good idea - has just posted that her medication is currently unavailable “and it’s nothing to do with Brexit! 🙄”

Maybe it isn’t. Yet.

HepzibahGreen · 12/09/2019 16:24

I wonder what they'll call it when Black Swan (which is rumoured to be the worst case scenario) is leaked, as it seems it may be soon? The worst worst case scenario, perhaps? hmm

Black Swan is always the worst case scenario.Or rather, it's what happens if the unthinkable happens. They can't call it that and then say it's actually something else, because that's what black swan means! (although I guess they might try!)

Tonnerre · 12/09/2019 16:28

I heard someone on the radio saying that they were better prepared in Kent because they'd incorporated redeploying police into the plans. I don't see how that improves things - surely it means taking police away from where they are presumably also needed elsewhere? There could be some nasty knock-on effects in terms of a rise in crime rates.

Juells · 12/09/2019 16:32

Authorities have scrambled to set up a "smart border" with cameras to scan the license plates of trucks heading to Britain and automatically link them to shipping documents filled out online by exporters."

But those are trucks leaving the EU. The delays aren't usually with trucks leaving a country, are they? The delays are on entry to another country.
