DH and I are having a mini-war over cat poo Blush

He thinks it is entirely reasonable to bag up poo from the cat litter tray and put it in the kitchen bin, which is emptied every few days. I think this is fucking repulsive and stinks the kitchen out, and cat poo, bagged or otherwise, does not belong in a kitchen. His position is "it's not reasonable to expect me to traipse out to the wheelybin every time I empty the litter tray". If I pick up poo I put it in the outside bin (because I'm not a minging pig and don't want faeces in my kitchen)

The teenagers are (loudly) siding with him. I'm right, aren't I? It's gross?

I wouldn’t do it, but then I wouldn’t have a nappy in my kitchen bin either - they all went straight out to the wheelie bin.

Cheeserton · 08/09/2019 21:09

Straight into the outside bin is better of course. Not a fan of millions of little plastic bags...

Plasebeafleabite · 08/09/2019 21:09

Mine goes in the bin

Smells better than when its in the litter tray being bagged and all

user1473878824 · 08/09/2019 21:11

Get Catsan clumping litter, seems to eliminate smell completely. I live in a flat so ours goes in the bin. I’d never really thought about it being gross as there isn’t a smell and it’s not like I store utensils in there with it...

madcatladyforever · 08/09/2019 21:11

It is disgusting YANBU. I have a bucket with a lid on it outside the back door so I don't have to go down the drive everytime into which I put the bagged poo then it all goes down to the wheelie bin when it's convenient.

Happypelican · 08/09/2019 21:11

Outside bin definitely that’s what I do with mine. The house would stink if i put it the kitchen bin 🤢 bad enough having a litter tray

Bufferingkisses · 08/09/2019 21:12

Bodily excretion of any description goes straight in the outside bin with the exception of sanitary wear which goes outside each day. Nappies, cat litter, poo from the dog walk, all belong outside.

madcatladyforever · 08/09/2019 21:12

Catsan clumping is not great when you have a cat with kidney disease. You come down to one big clump everymorning.

pigeononthegate · 08/09/2019 21:15

Catsan doesn't cut it with our cats, two of them are kittens with various health issues that mean eye-wateringly stinky poo and I am ridiculously sensitive to (and upset by) bad smells. I can smell it in the kitchen if he puts it in there, it really bothers me.

@madcatladyforever so easy to clean out though! We used to use the normal stuff and it basically needed scrubbed every day because of the ammonia smell. This stuff has been a godsend. I’m now wondering if we need a trip to the vets as she is an epic wee-er.

ParadiseLaundry · 08/09/2019 21:17

Yanbu. He might as well leave it in the litter tray, it'll probably smell less!

nobodyloveslava · 08/09/2019 21:17

We put ours into scented nappy bags and then into the kitchen bin. Never have any issues with smell.

user1473878824 · 08/09/2019 21:18

@pigeononthegate ahh that changes things somewhat! Then YANBU at all.

Houseworkavoider · 08/09/2019 21:18

Mine goes down the loo!
I bag the litter and put that in the outside bin when doing a full change.

user1473878824 · 08/09/2019 21:19

OP, might not help at all but our elderly cats ended up with numerous stomach issues and opening the front door every day with a nasal assault. We found a little bit of Greek yoghurt every day worked wonders. (This was after stopping them having it when they were younger once we realised cats should have dairy, but then finding out yoghurt for some reason is fine)

Cherrysoup · 08/09/2019 21:20

He’s disgusting. When I poo pick the garden (dogs and a sodding Fox) it goes straight out to the wheelie bin. Ick.

ParadiseLaundry · 08/09/2019 21:21

Also,OT but I'm always amazed at the amount of people who use and love Catsan. I've only ever bought it in an emergency but I think it smells straight away. I much prefer the cheapest supermarket brand.

The bright white litter does look nicer in the tray though!

user1473878824 · 08/09/2019 21:27

@ParadiseLaundry I can’t bear the normal stuff. Wee just sinks to the bottom and pools and stinks and I never got on with it. Was going through so much as the whole tray needed binning every day just to get it clean. The clumping stuff is fab though.

HamsterHolder · 08/09/2019 21:27

We put the cat little box in the bathroom so that we could fling the poos in the loo.

Sorrysorrysosorry · 08/09/2019 21:32

Straight into the outside bin every single time.

It would turn my stomach prepping food thinking there was cat shit in the kitchen bin.
Envy grim.

Vanhi · 08/09/2019 21:33

It's poo, not nuclear waste.

Branleuse · 08/09/2019 21:35

try wood litter
www.amazon.co.uk/Okoplus-Cats-Best-Original-Clumping/dp/B003ZG8XFU?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

You can scoop the poo and wee clumps out of this and flush it, then nothing stinks

WillLokireturn · 08/09/2019 21:35

Your DH is minging. It stinks the kitchen out and is just a gross, unhygienic & lazy thing to do 🤮

Catpoo, dogpoo, bird or rat carcasses all go bagged up straight into outside bin.

Pay no heed to teenagers "siding with him", many aren't known for being bastions of hygiene and odour detectors.

PixiKitKat · 08/09/2019 21:36

We use scented nappy bags but it still goes straight into the outside bin!
