DH and I are having a mini-war over cat poo Blush

He thinks it is entirely reasonable to bag up poo from the cat litter tray and put it in the kitchen bin, which is emptied every few days. I think this is fucking repulsive and stinks the kitchen out, and cat poo, bagged or otherwise, does not belong in a kitchen. His position is "it's not reasonable to expect me to traipse out to the wheelybin every time I empty the litter tray". If I pick up poo I put it in the outside bin (because I'm not a minging pig and don't want faeces in my kitchen)

The teenagers are (loudly) siding with him. I'm right, aren't I? It's gross?

Yeah that's gross. And it's expensive, but the best litter we've had is Felipure. Clumps well, doesn't smell for AGES.

BustedDreams · 09/09/2019 08:33

Outside or flush IMHO.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 09/09/2019 08:39

I use the wood pellet cat litter and my cat doesn’t cover his poo (just scrapes the sides of the tray Hmm so it’s easy to lift out and no litter is stuck to it when it’s flushed.

binkyclink · 09/09/2019 09:00

You are right OP.

It's fucking vile the stench it gives off ( all be it bagged ) learnt this lesson myself when I first got kitty. My cats litter tray is in bathroom & kitty poop now gets disposed of down loo with human waste. My cat has the silica cat litter so it's easy to shake off the silica with the scoop & deposit just the poop down the loo.

Utterly revolting. Cat poop, even bagged does not belong in the kitchen bin! It stinks 😷 even when bagged 🤢

SleepsleepsleepImissyou · 09/09/2019 09:18

Oh god, no you can't keep stinky cat litter in the kitchen bin! Ours goes straight in the outside bin, along with stinky nappies! Wet nappies usually get lobbed into the kitchen bin though, depends how lazy I am :) Is it a long trek to your outside bin?

Hederex · 09/09/2019 09:23

Yeah he's being disgusting. Needs to go straight outside.

Mia184 · 09/09/2019 09:24

Mine goes down the loo! I bag the litter and put that in the outside bin when doing a full change

I do the same!

from123toabc · 09/09/2019 10:09

people stating that they never have issues with smell putting poo in the kitchen bin have simply got used to the stink. I bet any non- pet owner could smell it a mile off

FFSDH · 09/09/2019 11:13

I don’t understand it either from123. I can smell the sealed bags when I step outside (I leave them on my back doorstep before moving them to wheelie bin). Even the scented nappy bags are nowhere near strong enough to hold the stink in. Unless my cat does ridiculously stinky poos.

Houseworkavoider · 09/09/2019 15:08

Hang on.. so cat poo down the loo will cause harm to aquatic life? But what about the rats, foxes, birds badgers and hedgehogs that are wandering about near streams?
I’m off to google it!

adaline · 09/09/2019 16:07

adaline, if you've lived in a country with water borne diseases, you'd understand the fear of creating that.

The only reason we have safe water in the developed world is because of the rules, procedures we follow.

I don't think we're about to have a toxoplasmosis outbreak because of cat poo being flushed down the toilet!

Cats who go outside poo and pee wherever they fancy - this then ends up in the soil or being eaten by birds who fly around and spread it all over the place.

Most people who have cats are already immune to toxoplasmosis and those that aren't are highly unlikely to have complications unless they're immune suppressed, very young or old, or eat it/touch it with bare hands.

The "increased" risk from flushing cat poo down the toilet instead of binning it is negligible when you consider how many cats shit outside on a daily basis!

lljkk · 09/09/2019 18:14

At any one time about 30% of us have active t. gondii infection (detectable).
Should we not poo in toilet, either?

lljkk · 09/09/2019 18:15

afaik, birds are the huge wildlife reservoir. Birds are the reason cats usually get it. But T. gondii seems to be rife in all UK wildlife.

Spingtrolls · 09/09/2019 18:34

Ewww shit in your kitchen. That's really gross.
Ask him how he would feel if he found out his favourite takeaway/restaurant had shit in the kitchen bin.

Catsan is vile. Mine only have to look at the stuff for it to reek. I use some biodegradable stuff. Clumps and doesn't stink. People are amazed when they see the trays unless we've used catsan.

pattyhoo · 09/09/2019 19:02

We use the 'worlds best cat litter' and it gets flushed down the loo so it's all gone and not hanging about in any bin.

Used to use catsan but it can't be flushed and was sick of the poo smell hanging about!

toria6118 · 09/09/2019 22:16

I have two house rubbish bins. One in the kitchen for kitchen rubbish, one in the hallway next to the litter tray for litter, nappies, sanitary towels. I use wood pellet litter for my four cats.

binkyclink · 10/09/2019 07:57

Sorry @toria6118

I don't know how you cope with a separate bin which contains cat litter, dirty nappies & used sanitary products in your house.

Does it not smell?

The thought of this gives me twitchy hives & makes me want to heave Confused
