DH and I are having a mini-war over cat poo Blush

He thinks it is entirely reasonable to bag up poo from the cat litter tray and put it in the kitchen bin, which is emptied every few days. I think this is fucking repulsive and stinks the kitchen out, and cat poo, bagged or otherwise, does not belong in a kitchen. His position is "it's not reasonable to expect me to traipse out to the wheelybin every time I empty the litter tray". If I pick up poo I put it in the outside bin (because I'm not a minging pig and don't want faeces in my kitchen)

The teenagers are (loudly) siding with him. I'm right, aren't I? It's gross?

ok agree with him, but tell him hes to empty the kitchen bin each day too

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/09/2019 22:36

Our cat tends to go outside, but if it’s inside we flush down the loo. When the tray gets cleaned it’s straight in the outside bin. We have two trays for her, and she only uses them once in a blue moon, if the weather’s terrible or if we go away and MIL is just coming in twice a day for her.

TatianaLarina · 08/09/2019 22:37

I can’t cope with litter full stop.

Outdoor cats or nothing.

Rachelover60 · 08/09/2019 22:38

He is the unreasonable one, the litter should be securely bagged and put out in the wheelie bin. I'm amazed your kitchen bin is only emptied every few days though, I fill mine up daily.

Jux · 08/09/2019 22:39

I flush the poo down the loo, then disinfect. I have flushed the odd collection of clumped wee-soaked litter down there too, to no ill effect, but don't trust it not to block the pipes, so that goes in a bag and straight outside. Yes, dh puts the bag in the kitchen bin.

JacquettaW · 08/09/2019 22:41

Shock My eldest cat is 13 and I've never heard of the litter locker bin nor flushable litter! Very useful to know.

OP your DH is BU, the poo should be going straight outside

Nanny0gg · 08/09/2019 22:43

Do not flush cat poo down the loo!

And get a litter bin

FenellaVelour · 08/09/2019 22:49

There’s always the Litter Quitter...

Mind, it didn’t work with my cats, but they are older and set in their ways.

DH is BU here, right? And disgusting to boot!
madamedesevigne · 08/09/2019 22:50

He is being completely disgusting, cat poo should go straight outside. I’ve got the worst of both worlds- three outdoor cats who love their litter trays and will often come in from the garden just to use them and then go straight back out again!

TatianaLarina · 08/09/2019 22:58

Take the litter tray away woman!

I only have litter trays for small kittens or dying cats. And it has to have a hood.

pigeononthegate · 08/09/2019 23:02

He's genuinely surprised and aggrieved that so many of you agree with me, he expected MN to say I was being silly Grin

I despise co-existing with the litter trays (I really do have a problem with bad smells) but I adore the cats and couldn't imagine life without them. They will be outdoor cats, one is and our previous cats have all been roamers, but the little ones were rescued from a very bad situation and their health isn't great, so they can't even have their vaccinations yet or be neutered, so no chance of them going out for the foreseeable.

OP posts:
GlasshouseStoneThrower · 08/09/2019 23:03

I scoop it out with a plastic scoop and flush it down the loo. No smell and more environmentally friendly than plastic.

Generally though yanbu.

pigeononthegate · 08/09/2019 23:04

I was under the impression that cat shit shouldn't go down the loo because of toxoplasmosis risk

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/09/2019 23:08

My own solution to avoid traipsing to the dustbin in the rain: a plastic bucket with a lid and a liner, kept outside the kitchen door. Just before collection day the liner gets transferred to the dustbin, so that doesn't smell either because the litter's not in it long enough

Would that work?

Bahlindah · 08/09/2019 23:09

Cat poo should not be flushed down the toilet. Surprised to see so many people do it.

Please dispose of your animal waste safely and hygienically.

KickAssAngel · 08/09/2019 23:11

Outside every time.

We do that (even my DH, who is otherwise a complete slob, never once contemplated using an inside bin), and sometimes it is MINUS 40 DEGREES
Still, we open the back door and put the litter in trash OUTSIDE.

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 08/09/2019 23:11

Didn't know that about toxoplasmosis. I wonder if the effect on the environment is worse than single use plastic? Might see if I can find any research.

Ontheboardwalk · 08/09/2019 23:13

biodegradable bags and in the outside bin here.

Surely it’s not much more effort for his lazy arse to put it in outside bin.

Agree with PP put it in teenagers bins and see if they like it hanging around for a couple of days

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 08/09/2019 23:15

Cat poo goes in the toilet here.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 08/09/2019 23:16

Cat poo should not be flushed down the toilet.

Why not?

ABoozedMoose · 08/09/2019 23:21

Sounds like he and your children are just trying to avoid litter tray duty and hoping you'll be so disgusted with them that you'll take full responsibility for doing it.

RhiWrites · 08/09/2019 23:27

bag all cat poo up in fragranced dog poo bags and put in the kitchen bin. None of my cats have smelly poos generally thankfully. Never been an issue. Must admit it has never occurred to me to do anything else, traipsing to the wheely bin every time is just not going to happen.

I think I use the same bags, they’re biodegradable which is good. But I do ‘traipse’ outside to the wheelie bin every time. It’s not that far to go!

Jux · 08/09/2019 23:27

Someone said earlier in the thread, Joxer.

Apparently, the toxoplasmosis in the poo is not treated in the water treatment plant and so leaks into the water table, rivers etc and harms water life.

I didn't know either Blush

Toomuchtrouble4me · 08/09/2019 23:28

Scented nappy sacks but then I live in a flat up 59 steps with no lift so I can't 'nip out to the bin', its never caused a small though.

cakeandchampagne · 08/09/2019 23:32

It should go immediately to the outside bin !
