Cleaner cancelled last minute due to childcare

UmmUmar · 05/09/2019 16:05

I've found a fantastic cleaner, single mum by the sounds of it, brings her daughter with her (I don't mind), you can tell she is struggling financially and with her little one.

Today she cancelled on me 10 mins before the appt because of childcare. I understand that with a kid, things get a bit difficult with work but a heads up would have been nice!

Since my house has been a tip I've got to do it all by myself (pregnant + toddler, and dh works long hours)

AIBU to be upset?

OP posts:
ILikeyourHairyHands · 05/09/2019 17:06

Aha Glitch, I was just about to say that Skittle only hangs about on MN to yell everyone how horrible children are, how happy she is to be childfree, and generally make unhelpful comments regarding any OP's problem and how it wouldn't be a problem if only everyone had followed her excellent example and just not had children.

Me-thinks the lady doth protest too much...

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 05/09/2019 17:07

Thread officially over.

😂😂😂

Not sure where you’re used to posting but it doesn’t work like that on MN.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/09/2019 17:09

Until we are all dribbling old wrecks who need the next generation to feed us and wipe our bums, generate the funds which our pensions pay out.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/09/2019 17:10

God, Skittle, I've worked with childfree people who took time off for their dogs

Not unreasonable, IMHO.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/09/2019 17:12

@Horatioroses

thank you!

Oh!

I thought it was sarcasm . . . . Blush

FudgeBrownie2019 · 05/09/2019 17:14

Thread officially over.

I am now going to campaign to keep this thread going til it reaches 1000 posts and needs a follow-up!

GlitchStitch · 05/09/2019 17:15

Me-thinks the lady doth protest too much...

Yep. A more one track poster I've never seen.

MsLumley · 05/09/2019 17:16

Well that’s what you said.

No I didn't actually. Read things properly.

TheKarateKitty · 05/09/2019 17:16

*Thread officially over.

😂😂😂

Not sure where you’re used to posting but it doesn’t work like that on MN.*

Not sure what’s funnier, declaring the thread over or posting on the AIBU section and getting mad that people expressed, “YABU.”

Drabarni · 05/09/2019 17:16

DH and I worked hard to get to a place where we don’t need to lift a finger at home. We’re not about to start doing chores now.

That's nothing to be proud about, it sounds bloody stupid to me. Work the least you can and look after yourself. Silly to do that much work and still need people to manage your life.

waterrat · 05/09/2019 17:16

Nothing wrong with having a cleaner.

But there is something seriously wrong with one woman judging another for sometimes having chilcare problem . I mean Jesus Christ that's life as a parent !

caringcarer · 05/09/2019 17:17

It is annoying but things do come up occasionally like others have suggested maybe her child is sick. Be glad she did not bring it and infect you. If she is usually reliable I would suck it up but if it happens very often I would get a different one. Just be glad you have a cleaner and don't have to do it all on your own.

mooncuplanding · 05/09/2019 17:18

It's fascinating that you couldn't answer whether you were BU on your own, OP.

I'm not sure you even think you were being U given your last post

I hope she fucks you off for other clients, as I would guess you aren't that nice to work for.

CCquavers · 05/09/2019 17:19

Fantastic cleaner = gold dust or should I say diamond dust. Let it go.

Ringdonna · 05/09/2019 17:21

I would be annoyed too, would certainly not pay her.

iklboo · 05/09/2019 17:22

Me-thinks the lady doth protest too much...

More likely a trucker named Bernard

PrettyFlyF0rAWiFi · 05/09/2019 17:22

Is that weirdo @Skittlenommer STILL on mumsnet? He/she is only here to poke people

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 05/09/2019 17:22

No I didn't actually. Read things properly.

Your post: But IME cleaners that let you down once will do it again and again.

My response: Surely that can apply to any job though? Receptionist calls in to work saying she has childcare issues and can’t come in so does that mean she’ll do it again and again?

Your response: Yes, but this thread is about cleaners

Just in case you need it pointed out again, you said “yes”

So yeah, you did say that someone who has childcare issues will be permanently unreliable.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/09/2019 17:26

Thread officially over.

There is a precedent for this, I think - I'm sure I an remember a thread in AIBU where the OP didn't get the response she wanted and ended up screaming 'STOP POSTING! STOP POSTING!' or words to that effect.

I have to admit that (rather unkindly) I laughed. Grin

DarlingNikita · 05/09/2019 17:27

Thanks fellow cleaner-hiring, non-judgemental mums out there!

Hey, I have a cleaner, I'm not judging you, and – get this –I'm NOT EVEN A MUM!

My household and I just don't want to spend our time cleaning; we can afford to pay a cleaner; so we have a cleaner.

Have at me, bitches (and give the OP a break).

westcountrychicken · 05/09/2019 17:29

My old cleaner cancelled once whilst I was pregnant, with a toddler AND I had viewing on our house we were desperately trying to sell.

It wasn't the end of the world!

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 05/09/2019 17:31

I have let one women down once as a cleaner. My son found something in the internet that freaked him out about his condition he has. This happens two mins before I left to go to someone’s house.
Thankgod I work for actual people who realise things come up

Couchpotato3 · 05/09/2019 17:32

I hired a cleaner when I was 5 months pregnant with my second child. She didn't turn up one day because..........she had given birth (didn't know she was pregnant). Shit happens. You sound utterly spoilt.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 05/09/2019 17:32

Meant to add that doesn’t make me unreliable but human. It would appear people on here are super human and never are ill or have time off work. You are all so perfect.

scittlescatter · 05/09/2019 17:33

Op, people on aibu are really nasty to those who can afford cleaners, I think it is just jealousy. Or perhaps they are just nasty people altogether.

I understand that more than 10 minutes notice would have been nice for you!
