Housemate woes

Goodlookingcreature · 03/09/2019 20:07

I recently moved in short term to a house share with the owner occupied. When I moved in it was just me and him, he said he didn’t use a microwave so I said I’d buy my own. He moved a 3rd person in and I asked him to buy a microwave; he said that I said I’d purchase one as he doesn’t use it. No problem, it’s just that there’s a new person living here now and I don’t want to be the freak saying nobody is allowed use microwave. He said the new guy didn’t eat in the house and it won’t be an issue.

Purchased microwave and sure enough new guy uses it. He’s moved a 4rd person in and they think the house comes equipped with a microwave.

What would you do?

I’m only here short term for work

Are you allowed to have the microwave in your room?

AnathemaPulsifer · 03/09/2019 20:09

Take your microwave into your room

itchyfinger · 03/09/2019 20:09

What's the issue with them using your microwave?

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/09/2019 20:09

If its short term I'd just share my microwave and then leave it behind.

Goodlookingcreature · 03/09/2019 20:09

I doubt it

OP posts:
Goodlookingcreature · 03/09/2019 20:10

My issue is the fact he refused to buy one because nobody else used it. If I had it and didn’t have to purchase it I wouldn’t care. Now everyone’s using it and I had to pay for it. I’m pissed

What colour is the microwave?

Goodlookingcreature · 03/09/2019 20:13

Yellow with pink spots

Wtf kind of question is that 😂😂

WaggingKnife · 03/09/2019 20:15

God just let them use the microwave. It’s hardly going to wear it out. If cleaning/making a point about it not belonging to the home owner is an issue pop a post it on it saying “the flat didn’t come with a microwave, so I bought one please take care and clean it out as I would like to move this to my next place”

JamieLeeBee · 03/09/2019 20:16

Well I don't understand the original question. It's a microwave? At least you're getting your money's worth out of it!

WhoLetTheFrogsOut · 03/09/2019 20:17

As long as it's not left dirty I don't think I could get annoyed. I bought a fairly expensive bbq and faced the same thing. I just accepted it with the knowledge I'd probs buy a new one when eventually buying my own house.

Chupchup · 03/09/2019 20:18

It's really petty. Let everyone use it, perhaps you can borrow something of theirs in return. Let it go!

Whynotnowbaby · 03/09/2019 20:19

I would be pissed off too. I think you have options: 1. Move it to your room and see if he comments, if he does ask him to buy it from you since it was never a purchase for the house. If he refuses then you may end up cutting off your nose to spite your face by ending up with no microwave (if he won’t allow it in your room) or having to do all your microwaving in your room which might be a bit weird too. 2. Sit it out and take it with you when you leave. 3. Tell other flat mates the sorry and ask them to pay a third each.

WhatsMyPassword · 03/09/2019 20:21

sell him the microwave

Countrylifeornot · 03/09/2019 20:21

What on earth do you think will be the detrimental result of people using the microwave?

scittlescatter · 03/09/2019 20:22

Honestly, it's just a microwave. Telling other people they can't use it will come across as really petty.

When you move take it with you, in the meantime, relax.

WizardOfAus · 03/09/2019 20:22

What are the dimensions of the microwave?

82YorkshireLass · 03/09/2019 20:22

I think there are bigger things in life to worry about. I've lived in house shares and petty behaviour can escalate quickly and who needs an atmosphere when you get home from work? And surely you don't want to be that person. It won't hurt to let other people use your microwave. You can take it with you when you leave.

arethereanyleftatall · 03/09/2019 20:23

I'd just let everyone use the microwave, and not spend a single second thinking about it.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/09/2019 20:23

I'd say nothing, let them use it and take it with you when you go.

Goodlookingcreature · 03/09/2019 20:24

DP has suggested to remove the fuse when it not using it. I think he’s taking the piss

OP posts:
Templetonstunafish · 03/09/2019 20:25

Did you pay a deposit? Take the money out of your last rent cheque and then leave it behind. Or move it to your room. I get it, I'm a petty bitch too.

Goodlookingcreature · 03/09/2019 20:25

To specify I don’t mind letting the others use it, so much. It’s the fact he refused to buy it saying I was the only one who would use it so I could buy my own.

OP posts:
ChangeItChild · 03/09/2019 20:25

Why do you have a problem with them using the microwave? I genuinely don't understand what the issue is.

Butchyrestingface · 03/09/2019 20:28

If you’re happy to let them use it in the interim for the sake of harmony, let them know it’s your microwave and it’s going with you when you leave.
