I'm wondering what boris is meant to do?

The referendum result was leave .

The EU will not renegotiate but parliament wouldn't back the only deal available.

Now they won't back leaving at all.

The result was leave. Johnson promised to deliver that result.

So what now ?
There is No solution to this fuck up is there?

I know mn is primarily anti leave but for me the result was what it was and should be honoured. How many bites of the cherry should people get?

And not one party agrees with anything anyway. The EU will NOT negotiate so what are the options that the rebel MPs would like ?
Ignore the vote and pretend it didn't happen?

I am so sick of Brexit. David Cameron should be put in the stocks....

Alexander needs to FO.

LatteLove · 03/09/2019 21:57

I think no deal has to be off the table if there’s a public vote. The options should be, as they ought to have been at the outset, was leaving on the only available deal or remaining. No deal is not actually a positive choice, it’s the default position in the event a deal for whatever reason doesn’t occur. You can’t trust a decision like that that would be so damaging to the country to the general public.

Kubo · 03/09/2019 21:57

The Prime minsiter should have more power than the opposition, in making decisions for the country.

He would do, if he was able to hold on to his MPs.

Bluntness100 · 03/09/2019 21:57

I don't think he's got any options past what he's currently doing.

If he looses tonight, he has to call an election. If labour refuse it he can pass a bill to get an Ge.

He's being stymied at all corners. To be fair like he did to Teresa May.

We should find out in the next few mins if parliament is taking no deal off the table.

angell84 · 03/09/2019 21:58

@expatinspain but how are two opposing parties who hate each other - ever going to agree on a countrywide decision. It makes no sense?

Why can't the UK government be one party - a party that was democratically elected by the people?

EdnaAdaSmith · 03/09/2019 21:59

Perhaps he's meant to say "sorry, I told massive lies to manipulate votes in the referendum and have no business trying to make the dodgy as hell mess I've played a significant role in creating any worse, we're going to have to revoke. Sorry, my bad, I'm a self serving sociopath, as you were"

EngTech · 03/09/2019 21:59

Call a GE and people can vote accordingly as Parliament seem unable to agree on anything and are plotting to take get what they want.

A GE would demonstrate to MP’s and remind them, who they work for.

If the GE produces the wrong result, have another GE until the right result is arrived at

What is the right result?

Good question, ask me after the GE 😎😎

eladen · 03/09/2019 21:59

The result of the referendum should not be honoured, because the winning side broke electoral law. The promises to implement it were made before this was known. Not only does the result have no legitimacy as a consequence of that, but we simply cannot implement the result because if we do, we're asking for further interference in every future election.

I remain deeply disappointed that of all the MPs elected to act in the nation's best interests... How many pursued this 3 years ago instead of scrambling to protect their own interests?

It should never ever have been allowed to stand - if the referendum had been legally binding (which it wasn't, we didn't have to get into this mess) it would already have been disregarded. It's only because it wasn't legally binding that didn't happen automatically! Because they should have bloody done it and any MPs with integrity would have made sure that happened. Apparently we have none.

Cowards. And now we are all utterly screwed.

maartjebaabes · 03/09/2019 22:01

Family: "You seem to be very oddly forgetting all the other MPs who voted against it - why?".

Of the 34 tories who voted against MV3, 30 were ERG or fellow travlleres. Add the 9 DUP who went in step and they could have triggered Brexit.

Grieve, Bebe Gyimah and the saner Johnson boy would not have changed it.

If you mean the labour and SNP votes against, do you really think expect the opposition to rescue the governments flagship bill fromits own back benches?

And even if you do, that was still the UK parliament stopping the deal the EU were happy to make somyour original point was still completely incorrect and the opposite of what actually happened

Sorry to be harsh, but making up nonsense like the EU not letting us leave sounds like you're clutching at straws to hold a position you are rapidly realising is irrational.

hettie · 03/09/2019 22:01

The prime minister would have absolute power of he/she had a decent majority which I actually think is a problem as the winner takes all mentality of our system and the lack of collaboration and perspective taking is what got us into this mess

Bluntness100 · 03/09/2019 22:01

This is really bad actually, they could prevent him having an election.

Boris could be fucked, properly fucked. No election, has to seek an extension, he may be forced to be resign worst case here,

Deathgrip · 03/09/2019 22:01

Christ. How long is it going to take for people to cotton on?

It’s not possible. What people voted for is not possible. It’s not possible because we would either be out and fucked or out and still mostly in but with less power and influence.

No Deal would seriously damage our country and trigger years / decades of trying to get us to anything like as good of a position as we are in now.

How is this news to anyone?

MerryChristmasHarry · 03/09/2019 22:02

Yes, that's all true eladen. Far too many of our elected representatives have completely failed to consider the consequences of the illegality. This has been known for two years, two whole years of people being allowed to wrongly think that the referendum was legitimate. MPs colluded in this.

Cheeserton · 03/09/2019 22:03

Anyone defending no deal, what's your big idea to prevent a border in Ireland and defend the peace which we have a massive responsibility to defend? Not one of those in charge of this shit show have a single workable solution right now. Yet they are just so against the backstop... Pathetic and disastrously irresponsible.

hettie · 03/09/2019 22:03

It really wasn't the EU that didn't let us leave but the hard core leavers who want to live in glorious isolation who voted the reasonably sensible deal down

Xenia · 03/09/2019 22:05

Labour MPs need to back the withdrawal agreement which is pretty much labour policy anyway - customs union etc and then we can leave with a deal on 31 Oct.

Bluntness100 · 03/09/2019 22:07

Boris. No longer has a majority, if he kicks out the mps who vote against tonight he has a real problem on his hands.

He needs a general election and the house can prevent it.

Which gives him no where to turn.

angell84 · 03/09/2019 22:08

The current situation of Jeremy Corbyn shouting at every Prime Minister should never have been allowed to get this far.

There should have been a proper Brexit commitee established, that said " you need to put your party differences aside, we need to sit down together as a country and get this sorted".

Jeremy Corbyn is just looking out for his ego at the moment and it is dragging this on and on

Alsohuman · 03/09/2019 22:11

He is fucked, truly fucked @Bluntness100 - and thank God for it. My bet is he’ll be denied the election he wants and he’s stuck in the corner he’s painted himself into. Hopefully he’ll be the shortest serving PM ever.

eladen · 03/09/2019 22:11

Which gives him no where to turn.

What are you thinking might happen?

QualCheckBot · 03/09/2019 22:11

It just goes on and on and on. Meanwhile, the economy suffers. Pity people in Scotland even more, because they have had one referendum and now have the constant threat of another one hanging over them. Plus no EU membership likely in the next 10-12 years and no deal either if they do vote for it.

eladen · 03/09/2019 22:13

So it passed then...

hettie · 03/09/2019 22:16

As to what Boris will do... My guess is he's relying on his affable floppy haired posh boy schtick to either
a) Bring back what will essentially be Theresa's deal wth some meaningless tweaks (which will this time get the votes because this time no deal seems possible and even fuckwit Tries who voted against the deal know that they will ultimately be punished when the full force of no deal reality hits home) ....or
b) Style it out with no deal through some neat political manovering and hope that he can Blvd it all on Europe (see my previous post).
Ultimately this whole shit show is a result of "cake and eat it" being obviously impossible. The reality is if we want out there will be a cost and political parties fear they will be blamed for the costs- despite the public voting for it sort of

Singletomingle · 03/09/2019 22:17

What I'd like to know is what MPs think will happen seeing as no deal is likely to be agreed by the end of October and the EU is unlikely to agree to a further extension. Basically they have made it illegal to do something that will happen anyway so what happens now?

angell84 · 03/09/2019 22:17

What passed?

Also why doesn't Jeremy Corbyn contribute any ideas, instead of just blocking other people's ideas
