To not understand Brexit?

HakunaMatataa · 02/09/2019 18:34

Please don't come for me, I am very out of the loop r.e: Brexit. I have no idea what is happening and what the implications of this could be on our everyday lives.

I keep seeing threads about stock piling ect and now I'm left wondering if I should be preparing?!

So basically I suppose I'd like some views on Brexit, some pro's and cons in layman's terms, so I can try and get my head around it please.

Is this just alot of scare mongering going on or shall I be concerned?

I've obviously googled this but politics isnt my strong point and I just don't get it.

Bellasblankexpression · 02/09/2019 23:32

@Trimummy3 they’re pushing for Brexit because it is what was voted for.

When you say if the Eu is so terrible why was it even offered to us, what do you mean? Originally when we joined? Or why were we offered the chance to leave in the referendum?

CalishataFolkart · 02/09/2019 23:39

@Trimummy3

www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2016/07/boris-johnson-peddled-absurd-eu-myths-and-our-disgraceful-press-followed-his

Here is where it came from. Boris Johnson started making up lies about the EU decades ago.

LatteLove · 02/09/2019 23:41

I just don’t believe it... I mean in the uk we buy tonnes of stuff... cars, even bloody electricity from France! Why would they stop selling to us? It’s a crazy idea.

Confused

In the unlikely event that anyone really is this clueless, it’s because at the moment there aren’t trade barriers with items coming in and out of the EU as we are all part of the same trading union.

After we leave, we won’t be.

Jesus, I really despair at this basic level of not having a clue.

CalishataFolkart · 02/09/2019 23:41

Even if you don’t read the full article, please read this.

“To Johnson, it was all a bit of a jape. “[I] was sort of chucking these rocks over the garden wall and I listened to this amazing crash from the greenhouse next door over in England as everything I wrote from Brussels was having this amazing, explosive effect on the Tory party – and it really gave me this, I suppose, rather weird sense of power,” he told the BBC years later.”

Coming in and out of the U.K. to other members of the EU that should say

Cut to the end, read up to trimummy with her 'why would a French nurse leave?'; then her 'Why can't we just buy isotopes?' 😢

Such wide eyed, puppy-appealing innocence...

Then bang - 'I'd vote Conservative 100% cuz Boris iz da guy'.

Trimummy. You're in the grown ups sector now. Try not to make a further fool of yourself.

We see you.

LatteLove · 02/09/2019 23:44

I have a lot more respect for the OP who didn’t understand the issues well enough to feel she could vote than I do for people who also didn’t understand the issues but voted for this monumental fuck up without having a clue

Trimummy3 · 02/09/2019 23:49

Yet you still don’t answer my questions. What do you mean grown up sector?! I’m lost.

So anyway... we buy loads of stuff, isn’t it in the eu best interest to make a way to keep selling to us?

Bellasblankexpression · 02/09/2019 23:49

Agree @lattelove

KennDodd · 02/09/2019 23:49

LatteLove
I agree. At least the OP has the intelligence to see she didn't understand the complexities.

Trimummy3 · 02/09/2019 23:52

stock up on your cake decorating stuff... yes I actually read earlier that people are stockpiling shit like that Grin “cos of brexit” right

LatteLove · 02/09/2019 23:53

They do still want to sell to us. We still want to sell to the EU as well. But it doesn’t just “happen” randomly. At the moment we are in the single market and subject to freedom of movement (which applies to goods and not just people). If we leave we won’t be so separate trade deals will need to be negotiated and given we leave in 7 weeks and are still bickering about the basics of doesn’t seem likely

Bellasblankexpression · 02/09/2019 23:53

So have you moved on to mocking people who are worried about Brexit because you don’t understand it trimummy3?

Pretty standard.

Anyway I hope this thread has been somewhat useful OP. It’s a baffling time we live in, to be sure.

Trimummy3 · 02/09/2019 23:53

I don’t feel like a fool for asking questions by the way

NeverTalksToStrangers · 02/09/2019 23:55

I live in NI. Sadly all of the problems over here have stemmed from English/British involvement (and let's be honest, oppression) for hundreds of years. And here you are, poised to fuck it up for us all over again.

I too couldn't believe how many posts it took for NI to even get a mention. Much like the pre-vote debate the silence on the Irish question is deafening.

So many leavers moan about how the EU are corrupt, out for their own interests, you shouldn't be ruled from far away etc. How the feck do you think we feel?

Trimummy3 · 02/09/2019 23:56

Bella tonight I have been called childish and thick! Pretty standard for these threads

LatteLove · 02/09/2019 23:57

The NI situation alone and jeopardising the peace of a constituent part of the U.K. should be reason enough to bin the whole thing. It’s a disgrace how NI is being shat on.

Miljah · 02/09/2019 23:57

trimummy 'what do you mean the grown up sector, I'm lost!'

No, you're not, you just think you're Dominic Cummings, who, I cannot deny, has played several blinders. You're not playing blinders, you're somewhat embarrassingly trying to wheedle in with puppy-like 'bu'- bu'- I don't understand's'

Yes you do. As do we.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 02/09/2019 23:58

Thank you latte

Trimummy3 · 03/09/2019 00:00

Because I don’t have the same view as you I am wrong and thick? I’m not playing “innocent” genuinely nobody has a clue what brexit will look like! Me, you... Even Boris!

ginghambox · 03/09/2019 00:04

So the people who voted decided to LEAVE the eu won. but the people who lost think they can pretend they won.

LatteLove · 03/09/2019 00:04

genuinely nobody has a clue what brexit will look like

Well no, but you can have an educated guess that if businesses move to the EU that will lead to job losses, that if there is no trade agreements in place that will lead to problems in supply of items to the U.K. from the EU which might lead to the food and medicine shortages people have mentioned...

Trimummy3 · 03/09/2019 00:09

Again...Why can’t we make a trade agreement?

Stop faffing with ways to block it and get a move on with trying to sort it out so it’s not a disaster that people seem to want it to be.
