Halloumi fries

I’ve obviously come late to the table here but I saw them in Aldi today and thought I would give them a try. WTF they are like dry squeaky weird things. I knew they wouldn’t be melty but they were so odd. Aibu to not understand the hype. Should I just stick to my middle aged person chips instead of trying to be hip with the young folk?

Morrisons do beer battered halloumi pieces. They're not as squeaky as halloumi normally is.

HollyGoLoudly1 · 31/08/2019 19:33

I haven't tried the Aldi ones but in general YABU. Halloumi fries are God's gift to the world of food.

ThePolishWombat · 31/08/2019 19:35

Halloumi comes directly from the arsehole of Satan Confused
YANBU to hate them Confused

Lostmychristmasspirit · 31/08/2019 20:00

I’ve literally just eaten them for my dinner, found them quite dry actually.

IAmALazyArse · 31/08/2019 20:01

Halloumi fries are AMAZING. Yabu

Florencenotflo · 31/08/2019 20:03

The Aldi ones are not good. I love halloumi but they are foul! And I usually love aldi.

museumum · 31/08/2019 20:03

Aldi ones aren’t great. But get them from a mobile van fresh made and they’re the food of heaven!!!!

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 31/08/2019 20:04

I love them! I could eat halloumi all day!

Elllicam · 31/08/2019 20:04

I didn’t like the Morrison’s ones. I usually love halloumi too.

Tableclothing · 31/08/2019 20:05

Try them drizzled with honey and sprinkled with toasted pine nuts (possibly more of a dessert).

BettysLeftTentacle · 31/08/2019 20:05

The Aldi ones are crap. Go to a restaurant and have them or make some tempura batter and make them yourself, much better.

UrsulaPandress · 31/08/2019 20:06

Had the Aldi ones the other evening.

Fucking depressing.

Sorrysorrysosorry · 31/08/2019 20:10

Had them out in a pub/restaurant as part of a tapas order. They were AMAZING I enjoyed them so much I did look at some in Aldi but put them back because I knew they wouldn’t measure up.

Pinkflipflop85 · 31/08/2019 20:11

The aldi ones are bloody disgusting.

The ones at our local pub however.....AMAZING!

Stickybeaksid · 31/08/2019 20:16

Ok maybe I shouldn’t have started with the budget option. I was taken in by the specially selected box Confused. Maybe I need to give them another go.

Vile stuff. I'm sure it's actually rubber. Also, Is it meant to be so salty? Every time I have eaten it it has been salty rubber.

CrocodilesCry · 31/08/2019 20:21

Yup the Aldi ones are a box of salty, rubbery disappointment.

cubed123 · 31/08/2019 20:21

Ditch the Aldi ones - they’re Not good!

Stickybeaksid · 31/08/2019 20:25

Yeh they are very salty. Just had to drink a lot of red wine to wash down the saltiness. My Saturday night treat has been such a disappointment. I hate when that happens. Dh is out maybe he can bring me home a spice bag later

DD loves the Aldi ones, I must confess I’ve never tried them.

InsertFunnyUsername · 31/08/2019 20:26

I love halloumi but YANBU the ones from aldi taste like arse.

Siameasy · 31/08/2019 20:32

You know what I am so over halloumi! It’s so over done. I remember when I first had it I thought it was amazing but I feel sick at the thought of it now. It’s so salty.

SummerOfComedy · 31/08/2019 20:33

Halloumi is my starter of choice in a restaurant, but Aldi's version are not nice.

I waited so long to try them as I read people were going mad for them and they were always sold out.

Very disappointing.

ohtheholidays · 31/08/2019 20:35

If you have a Real Greek restaurant near you then you should try them there they are gorgeous!
