to think that if the Government ignore petitions, they can't ignore mass protests this weekend

They ignore petitions.
They lie about the reason for suspending Parliament.

If you want to do something that can't be ignored, please join one of the protests this weekend.

Because it is doing something other than retweeting and posting on forums. It's visible action.

Is anyone joining a protest this weekend?

Where are they taking place?

ginghambox · 29/08/2019 18:43

No I'm going to a football match in Nottingham.

KennDodd · 29/08/2019 18:44

Do you have a link to information?

Unshriven · 29/08/2019 18:45

They will absolutely ignore them, just as they ignored the 'people's vote' marches.

Because there is nothing to stop them.

Terrifying.

The people who will suffer most, do the least.

chomalungma · 29/08/2019 18:47

Where are they taking place

There's a list here

Absolutely they will ignore them. They'll pretend they aren't happening, or that they were a couple of hundred extremists.

Just be glad we haven't got facial recognition cameras up everywhere yet, so that there can be repercussions for those protesting.

I still think I might go to one near me on Saturday though. Just because I'm angry and I can't keep going on seething quietly inside and not doing anything.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 29/08/2019 18:49

TBH - how can the government acknowledge a petition if it isn't sitting ?

How do you propose this is debated ??

Parliament will consider this for a debate
Parliament considers all petitions that get more than 100,000 signatures for a debate

SilverySurfer · 29/08/2019 19:08

Of course they can, mass protests are irrelevant.

SalrycLuxx · 29/08/2019 19:16

They will ignore them. Accept it. The government doesn’t give two hoots about peaceful protest and violent protests just play into their ‘war for freedom’ narrative.

Autumnintheair · 29/08/2019 19:25

Well they have ignored the vote for 3 years and pootled along doing nothing... So... What do you expect them to do now over one march?

Apparently momentum is calling for violence... Anarchy...

namechange34 · 29/08/2019 19:26

Am watching in horror from holidays (EU country). If I were home i would do my utmost to be there.

tomtom1999xx · 29/08/2019 19:27

They will totally ignore them.

Sorry.

tomtom1999xx · 29/08/2019 19:31

Plus - All the young ‘anarchists’ I know are really into the whole climate change stuff - I think they see brexit as a middle-aged thing & a bit ‘un cool’

MonsteraCheeseplant · 29/08/2019 19:31

They will ignore them. They ignored huge protests about the NHS. They don't give a shit about peaceful demonstrations.

Jellykat · 29/08/2019 19:33

Of course theyll ignore them, because they dont give a shit.. spin will be the usual 'remainers trying to undermine democracy' crap...

DoomsdayCult · 29/08/2019 19:33

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nope, they will substantively ignore any protests.
Peasant revolts don’t go anywhere ever.

TabbyMumz · 29/08/2019 19:37

Nope, won't be marching, just need us out of it on 31st October whichever way.

RedCowboyBoots · 29/08/2019 19:37

Nah, likely to be a waste of time. Enjoy though. Hope the weather holds out for you.

MyReadingChallenge · 29/08/2019 19:37

Even if you think they will be ignored I think it is still important to go, if people can. I sometimes think it all feels a bit hopeless but I will not let them wear me down.

EmeraldShamrock · 29/08/2019 19:38

If you keep protesting and don't give up the world will take notice, they'll have to listen.
If you use them ignoring it as an excuse not to protest the government can continue.

CendrillonSings · 29/08/2019 19:39

The ease with which any “mass” protests will be ignored is simply indescribable.

heath48 · 29/08/2019 19:39

No not joining a protest.

I well remember the huge protest about the Iraq War in 2003,close on a million people in London,36million across the World,it made not one iota of difference.

Sunshine1239 · 29/08/2019 19:42

They’ll ignore as they should

Even if it’s a million it’s way shy of the leave vote who would protest if we don’t leave

ChocChocButtons · 29/08/2019 19:44

They will ignore them because this country had a vote. And this country voted to leave....

ALoadOfTwaddle · 29/08/2019 19:51

If you keep protesting and don't give up the world will take notice, they'll have to listen

Of course they will. And we'll all hold hands and sing of peace and start equitably distributing our food across the globe and all big businesses will become zero waste industries.

I look forward to it.
