to think that if the Government ignore petitions, they can't ignore mass protests this weekend

They ignore petitions.
They lie about the reason for suspending Parliament.

If you want to do something that can't be ignored, please join one of the protests this weekend.

Because it is doing something other than retweeting and posting on forums. It's visible action.

Is anyone joining a protest this weekend?

Of course any mass protest will be ignored. Boris has a plan. Nothing will stop him.

TheBigBallOfOil · 29/08/2019 19:58

WTF is this “I just need it to happen” shit? Is this actually fulfilling an emotional need of yours or have you got a large sum of money riding on it? The latter is forgivable. The former - god. Get help.

KennDodd · 29/08/2019 20:05

I agree that protest will probably do nothing but in the years to come I will be able to tell my children that I didn't just sit around and watch this happening, that I tried to do something.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 29/08/2019 20:07

@KennDodd

On the offchance you and your children survive the immediate aftermath of the collapse of our civilization as we know it, you mean?

Jsmith99 · 29/08/2019 20:10

Of course the government can, and will, ignore these protests. Just as they ignored the huge ‘people’s vote’ marches.

Protests don’t change anything, which is why they are allowed. They make people feel good about themselves and feel like they are doing something, but only actual votes in ballot boxes and in Parliament really make a difference.

KennDodd · 29/08/2019 20:10

Boris has a plan.

I though he said he didn't need a plan?

Panama Pattie

With due respect Pattie, Dominic Cummings has a plan and nothing will stop him. That’s the most terrifying aspect of this whole situation, a country being skilfully manipulated by a shadow with even less of a mandate than BoZo. And an awful lot of people being sucked in by it have no idea who he is and in some cases that he exists.

I joined my student union demonstration against the poll tax in Trafalgar Square. It ultimately worked. The policy was scrapped and it was the beginning of the end for Thatcher. Occasionally, protest does make a difference.

For the record, I’m not a loonie leftie, I believe Corbyn is more dangerous than Thatcher ever was. I make decisions issue by issue and will join a demonstration on Saturday if I possibly can.

PanamaPattie · 29/08/2019 20:41

I should have added an explanation mark to show sarcasm.

Drabarni · 29/08/2019 20:42

It makes the protesters feel good about themselves, but serves no purpose.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 29/08/2019 20:42

@PanamaPattie in your defence, I think the sarcasm was fairly obvious

@KenDodd My feelings exactly.
I feel so so sad for the next generation, and will do everything I can to stop this madness for their sake.

Ohflippineck · 29/08/2019 21:25

I think I’ve had a sense of humour failure this week.

HeroicMissHoney · 29/08/2019 21:31

Years ago I went on the mass "stop the war" march against the invasion of Iraq. One of the biggest protests in recent history I believe. Did that achieve anything? Did it heck.

I am so disengaged. They don't care, they won't notice. I voted leave, I wrote to my Brexit supporting MP, I signed petitions. It's just going to happen and then when it's all a big f**k up, then BJ and his cronies will say they were enacting the will of the people. It sickens me, I despair.

meditrina · 29/08/2019 21:35

They'll work as well as the huge 'not in our name' anti-war protests

HeroicMissHoney · 29/08/2019 21:48

Voted remain!! Ha. What a typo BlushConfused

Meadowland · 29/08/2019 21:48

@HeroicMissHoney You voted leave ? So you voted for BJ and his cronies.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 29/08/2019 21:51

HTH did you manage to turn 'remain' into 'leave' with a typo?

Kolo · 29/08/2019 21:55

Yes, @chomalungma, I’m going with my family,

@ginghambox, the protests are before the match, at the Cloughie statue. Perfect!

TabbyMumz · 29/08/2019 21:55

People who voted leave didn't vote for BJ....they didn't know how it was going to happen, just that they wanted it to happen.

Witchend · 29/08/2019 21:55

He ignores everything except his own ego....
And possibly his hairdresser that told him his hair looked great.

JamesBlonde1 · 29/08/2019 22:01

I'll be busy doing housework and looking forward to getting this over on 31st October. The hysteria is doing my head in.

redavocado · 29/08/2019 22:06

@JamesBlonde1 this is far from over on 31 October. That's just the beginning!

Meadowland · 29/08/2019 22:14

@TabbyMumz BJ headed up the Leave campaign. By voting Leave, you voted that idiot in.
