11 yo DD & Hotter Shoes

X took DD school shoe shopping. We discussed getting DM,s or Clark's. DD now has a pair of Hotter black school shoes. Aren't they for the over 50's?
Will this potentially ruin dds first year at high school?

WIBU to raise the matter and suggest we return them?

NB: This would also mean I'd have to spend this weekend looking for School shoes.

Thank god you ordered kickers, they were awful!

PeriComoToes · 03/09/2019 21:00

I would say that most yr 7 kids will not take any notice of shoes yet if my DD and her class are anything to go by. My DD wore Mary Janes from startrite last year (y7), as did a few others in her class. Others were in kickers or Lace up brogues from Clarke's or similar.

Personally I don't dig the shoes but if she likes them let her wear them.

Oh missed the Hotter/trainer update Blush

TheClitterati · 03/09/2019 21:12

I'm 44 and wear hotter shoes and boots.

They are not all fugly, and fuck me but they are comfy.

And I'm renowned in our circle of friends for having impeccable taste in footwear!

*i just had to stick up for the brand, but I'm glad your dd got the shoes she really wanted. I too remember having shit shoes at school!

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 04/09/2019 12:23

I can almost guarantee she'll get ripped to shreds wearing them, if she's robust enough to cope with the teasing then keep them otherwise find an alternative. School is hard enough, you know?

They are nothing like brogues, nothing like trainers and they scream orthopaedic comfy shoes.

You know her and if she'll be ok with teasing as the kids will know the shoes/Hotter make as their granny's will likely have a pair.

I'll read the thread before posting next time Wink

Its OK MrsP I saved her :)

I got a Hotter shoes brochure in junk mail - some of them are actually quite nice .... Though I don't think many (if any) of their styles will accommodate my size 9's.

TheClitterati

They do loads of 9s, many of them in extra wide Smile

Have a look at the website. All (83) styles in size 9, & 48 of them in extra wide! (Only 12 in extra-extra wide though)

Flat laces in non-trainer shoes seem crazy to me, they scream 'trainers' before you even look at the rest of the shoe. There must be some trainer-comfy shoes out there that wouldn't look like trainers if they had round laces instead of flat ones.

I know the problem's solved now but why did it have to be so difficult? I can't remember precise diktats on footwear when I was at school, but that's a long time ago now. We didn't have trainers unless we were doing PE, when we mostly wore 'daps'. The only thing I remember being banned were open toed shoes and sandals, but that was to protect our tootsies from stuff dropped on the floor.

What a hassle when people can be doing something more productive and/or enjoyable with their precious time.

The trainer/shoe thing gives me angst. I genuinely do not have enough fashion knowledge to tell the difference if they're both black leather. Not sending DS to school in actual dress shoes, he needs something robust to run around at lunchtime, so I can't play it safe. I think I'm going to be with OP emailing school pictures of styles at the last minute!

thirdfiddle · 05/09/2019 18:04

One school I was at (private) allowed precisely two different styles, as in specific shoes. Simple at least! I'm not sure those wouldn't be classed as trainers now too, they were similar to OP's initial pair.
