11 yo DD & Hotter Shoes

X took DD school shoe shopping. We discussed getting DM,s or Clark's. DD now has a pair of Hotter black school shoes. Aren't they for the over 50's?
Will this potentially ruin dds first year at high school?

WIBU to raise the matter and suggest we return them?

NB: This would also mean I'd have to spend this weekend looking for School shoes.

Those Hotter boots are horrendous. The epitome of Mad Old Lady.

anydream · 30/08/2019 09:13

I have to say that I worried that all my children had chosen "unfashionable" shoes at the start of secondary school. I was bullied for my (parents' controlling) clothes/shoes choices at school so am probably over-sensitive. So I wanted them to pick more stylish ones but didn't want to control their choices. None of them have ever had any of their choices mentioned. Two of them picked the same styles in the next sizes. When I ask if anyone gets picked on regarding style they look at me as though I'm insane and tell me that everyone's individual and everyone should respect that.
Maybe kids are nicer today than they were in my day?

CheeseChipsMayo · 30/08/2019 09:16

My Dd wears Mizuno wave-expensive but she wont take them off..she still wears orthodics&we threw out dunlop volleys, vans&cons on podiatrists advice..otherDC wears hiking shoes&neither could give2f@cks what anyone says as they walk miles in them each day so comfort ruled👌ur girls look a good choice-i wnt between DMs&air max in the early90's...

TheClitterati
I’m a size 9/43
These days I mainly buy Wolky's. Expensive but fab quality and they wear really well. Plus I know they will fit and are great for my bad ankle.

I’m an 8-9/42-43 - ankles ok, but very broad feet with a very high instep. Shoe sizes are not consistent between makes (I bet you’ve found that an issue too?) & boots especially can be impossible to get into, even when the foot part is big enough, so having a hotter shop to go to & try on different sizes/widths is a great help!

Wolky are new to me - I do like the look of them, but the prices made me blink Shock

(My winter shoe of choice is a walking trainer. Luckily I don’t need to be stylish Wink)

TheClitterati · 30/08/2019 22:50

Oh yes the price! But I didn't buy any new summer sandals this year as my Wolkys are still going strong. In the end I think they are good value.

I grew up mostly barefoot all summer long - I have wide feet too Grin

DD's size 8 Lo Kicker's arrived today. She's very pleased with them. Hopefully her feet stop growing soon.

I wish "comfy" didn't equate "fugly".
I am a narrow size 9 and struggle so much.

Alsohuman · 31/08/2019 10:10

Fugly is fashionable. I’m very happy the fashion world has developed some common sense.

Hurray!Grin

TheClitterati · 02/09/2019 22:23

School git in touch today to day the hotters and kickers in similar style were trainers as far as the Svhool was concerned and are not allowed. I'm so pleased I got the Hotter fear and ordered the new kicker shoes. School says these are fine. You saved me from an expensive mistake MN. Cheers

It’s quite annoying when schools wait until September (when school shoes have been bought) to say what is and isn’t acceptable. My old school did this.

CruCru · 03/09/2019 09:43

But yes, thank goodness you got the other shoes.

Sorry, I went a bit off topic.

ChicCroissant · 03/09/2019 09:47

Glad you got it sorted, OP. I have been looking at first day photos this morning and have seen a pair of shoes that looked very much like the Hotter ones and it made me think of this thread!

TheClitterati · 03/09/2019 11:30

@CruCru they did say black school shoes but no trainers. I just had no idea those lace up Sketchers with the flat soles = trainers, until people pointed that out on this thread.

I find it bizarre they will allow all manner of flippy flappy ballet style & quite silly non-practical shoes but not the flat soled Sketchers.

@ChicCroissant I hope they were the much "cooler if you are 11" Sketchers Grin I was looking at all the girls shoes this morning - not a Hotter in site. Grin

Hotter = old and fungus. Unfortunately comfort is not going to be enough

TheWernethWife · 03/09/2019 16:46

Was in a Hotter shop last Saturday, they had fab shoes that were really Rockabilly in style.

berlinbabylon · 03/09/2019 17:02

DS' school did this too (saying that certain shoes were too trainer-like to be allowed, I think I said elsewhere on the thread or maybe it was another thread that they have to be the sort of shoes you wear to a wedding (for boys)). They did at least send something out at the end of the summer term though.

Glad you resolved it. I am sitting here in my fugly Hotter sandals!

berlinbabylon · 03/09/2019 17:05

I mentioned that my mum wouldn't be seen dead in Hotter shoes (and she's 80). She wear Rika sandals if that's a help to anyone looking for comfortable but less fugly shoes.

MissB83 · 03/09/2019 20:25

OP, thanks for the Wolkys recommendation!
Just ordered something in the sale Grin
I'm a 43 too and always end up wearing a 42 and getting blisters so hoping my luck may have changed... still hard to get proper size 9 shoes.
My son is a Bigfoot too; he's only 18 months and wears a size 6 toddler!

PinkFlowerFairy · 03/09/2019 20:34

Im late 30s and need to buy Hotter shoes to both fit my orthotic and not rub my fussy skin :(

Im really saddened by this thread ad Im reaply struggling to find non hotter shoes. I have clarks brogues but with my insole it causes them to rub my heel :(

MissB83 · 03/09/2019 20:35

@PinkFlowerFairy don't worry! I just bought Hotter sandals for next summer in a sale. I'm 35!! Grin

Alsohuman · 03/09/2019 20:42

Just googled Ryka, they make Hotter look the height of elegance.

MereDintofPandiculation · 03/09/2019 20:44

Those Clarks brogues that the OP's daughter settled on were something my grandmother might have worn. The "granny shoes" that she bought and sent back were the style we risked detentions and expulsions to wear to avoid the Clarks lace-ups that we were supposed to wear.

Notthetoothfairy · 03/09/2019 20:47

Wow - MNs in their 50s and 60s think they are “too young” for Hotters, which are actually being worn by those in their 20s or 30s (including me)!

berlinbabylon · 03/09/2019 20:53

Don't tell my mum that :)
