She's speaking so much sense at the moment about brexit. I think she'd do a good job at running the country and is saying the truth about what boris Johnson! Would be good to get prescription fees and tution fees scrapped in England also!

We had 3 foundaries back in the day - all closed - new industries though so the place has evolved thankfully.

StoorieHoose · 31/08/2019 11:00

Not in any of those towns listed as awful but I live in the shadow of the Wallace monument and Stirling castle as well as a insulation faftory. Of course it's not all heather and glens but I'm not far away from those but people have to work and pay taxes to contribute to HS2, Crossrail.and other publicly funded projects that are of no benefit to them

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/08/2019 11:03

You must be near my sister then!

Mrsjayy · 31/08/2019 12:56

It just bugs me the perceptions some people have of Scotland as a shortbread tin place ! @StoorieHoose who lives somewhere near me Smile

Dogsarebetterthancatsok · 31/08/2019 12:59

I’d rather have Corbyn. Actually, nope. They’re both terrible politicians and terrible people. Scotland is a shithole right now because they’re spending the money all wrong. You watch what happens if they ever get independence

Toastymash · 31/08/2019 13:36

Nicola Sturgeon is fucking awful. That being said, I'm struggling to think of anyone involved in British politics right now who isn't a huge disappointment. So fuck it, why not have Sturgeon? She's can't make this mess any worse than it already is.

TheGlaikitRambler · 31/08/2019 14:17

I'd be for it.

Missingstreetlife · 31/08/2019 14:22

She's not gender critical tho is she

StoorieHoose · 31/08/2019 16:28

MrsJayy we have spoken before - your up the hill from me [waves]. Much as I would love to live in the middle of a glen in the mountains it would take me ages to get to work and the 4g signal would be rubbish

StoorieHoose · 31/08/2019 16:31

But if independence was to happen we would be able to have an election and there is no guarantee that the SNP would win. We would be able to vote for anyone who stood

How on earth can anyone work up a hatred for Nicola when you have Boris in Westminster?

Mistressiggi · 31/08/2019 17:36

The problem with Woodmill is that the schools round about are at capacity and falling down
Primal, at least one of the other schools in that town has been completely rebuilt in recent years and the old one demolished.
Maybe it should have been kept as a "contingency plan" in case of fire!
I even prefer Ruth Davidson to most Westminster tories, though could never vote for her obviously.

EdtheBear · 31/08/2019 19:02

Nicola and Named Person = a very dangerous manipulative arse. A 3rd person having more rights to know about your child than you! Power in completely the wrong hands.Shock

Boris he's a gambler, this could either make him genius or a complete buffoon. He's not going to land in the middle!

Horatioroses · 31/08/2019 19:12

Do you know a lot about the named person, or why it could help children not fall through the cracks that appear when there is no one person charged with looking out for them? The only way you wouldn't know more than the named person about your child is if you were the one putting them at risk. Even if you don't agree with the set up, it's hard to see it as coming from anywhere other than a place of good intentions toward those well being of children.

ArtificialArctophile · 31/08/2019 19:16

Nicola Sturgeon who's the Chief Councillor at Scotland Regional Council? That Nicola Sturgeon? Please no 🙄 "she couldny run a two door shithoose" as my faither used to say....

Mistressiggi · 31/08/2019 19:25

Scotland regional council? Ffs. Don't be a twat.
I agree with a previous poster, she is not gender critical and that is a big problem. Very few politicians are (openly anyway) sadly.

dementedma · 31/08/2019 20:06

Sturgeon gets away with a lot as there is no viable opposition to challenge her, especially now Ruth Davidson has gone. She picks her interviews carefully and is well briefed. I live in Scotland and have heard her speak at several events (work related).
I would like to see her being grilled by a hard hitting interviewer, and having to actually answer incisive questions, instead of the bland sound bites she relies on

ArtificialArctophile · 31/08/2019 20:11

@Mistressiggi it's a devolved assembly. No power south of Gretna, thank goodness.
Whatever way you look at it, she's a glorified Cooncillor. 😬 she thinks she's a stateswoman though. Bless.

PrimalLass · 31/08/2019 20:27

I know. I do live and have a vested interest in what happens with the West Fife high schools.

I don't think keeping huge buildings like schools empty just in case is very sensible. Look at what happened at the old Inverkeithing Primary building - another fire.

jellycatspyjamas · 31/08/2019 21:23

I do, yes. By legislating to share information based on concerns about a child’s wellbeing (rather than risk of significant harm which is the threshold for child protection in Scotland), the government breached the right to privacy and family life. The well-being criteria was hugely widened and mean information being shared about your child that bore no relation to their care or safety.

Collating that amount of information about every child in Scotland would inevitably lead to more children falling through the net because of the sheer volume of information. Besides which in some local authorities the information would be passed to the “named person scheme” via a generic email in box manned by admin workers who would pass relevant information to the person holding the names person role as appropriate.

Much of the idea came from a good place and the pathfinder schemes had a good way of working but legislation and over processing/over thinking was entirely due to the Scottish government and was utterly avoidable.

QualCheckBot · 31/08/2019 22:04

Its difficult to see how the named person legislation isn't in breach of the Right to Family Life. Its typical of the type of legislation being produced in Scotland, which is all too often about controlling its population in ways which we do not see elsewhere. Its rather strange.

Rather worryingly, one of the very first named persons, Dayna Dickson-Boath, was shortly after being appointed as such convicted of sending grossly offensive or indecent messages with a highly sexual content about children. This has been kept very quiet by the Scottish Government and hasn't really taken off in the press with the energy you would think it would have done. Again, its very strange.

EdtheBear · 01/09/2019 00:43

Putting so much power in the hands of named people, does named person really have a 'right to know' if a parent has a health issue?
What happens if you happen to work in the same school as your children attend. Your boss knows you needed time for an appointment - they then can find out why?

Are children not allowed to visit a Doctor without it being discussed with a 3rd party. Should a school be informed if a 15yo wants the pill for heavy periods?

What happens if the Named Person is the abuser? Who do you complain too?

Do children really have a right to attend extra activities? What happens if its an activity that goes against your grain?

So many things and issues. Well beyond protecting from abuse. The more you read and dig into and think about it the more you open your eyes.
