She's speaking so much sense at the moment about brexit. I think she'd do a good job at running the country and is saying the truth about what boris Johnson! Would be good to get prescription fees and tution fees scrapped in England also!

How can anyone not be aware that the A90 goes through Dundee? To get to Aberdeen from Edinburgh,

Your post said Edinburgh to Dundee, not Aberdeen.

Because the motorway stops being a motorway at Perth!!!

There isn't a motorway from Edinburgh to Dundee. Its a correct statement!

augustagain · 29/08/2019 09:32

OMG NOOOOO!! (Scottish born and bred, living in Scotland fwiw).

Mrsjayy · 29/08/2019 09:34

Why do you think Snp have anything to do with university fees it wasn't Snp who brought them in anyway Nicola is only wanting indeoendencev and another indyref she wouldn't be interested in the rest of the UK

FuzzyPuffling · 29/08/2019 09:34

No no a thousand times no. Unbearable, sneery, one trick pony. (And it's not even a trick that many people actually want.)

mossmurray · 29/08/2019 09:49

@Curiositykilledthecat113 the S1-S4 at woodmill currently have no school to attend, there is simply not enough places for 1000 pupils in surrounding schools. There is no contingency plan, the headmaster is working flat out to find one, it is not as easy as you suggest that another school would provide education, all schools in Dunfermline, and also Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes are full to capacity

This is due to fife council though not the government but I wanted to clear up your assumption that school burning down would have a quick fix for pupils

PrimalLass · 29/08/2019 09:56

The change is minimal. And do we want more of our countryside dig up to widen a road that doesn't really need it?

Grafittiqueen · 29/08/2019 10:40

I think if there was a viable alternative to vote for then the SNP vote would plummet. Voters moved to the SNP after losing faith in Labour.

The SNP are really not doing a good job of running Scotland.

And by the way criticising the SNP is not criticising Scotland.

zsazsajuju · 29/08/2019 18:24

@Grafittiqueen there is a “viable” alternative- several in fact. But the SNP still get unprecedented levels of support and are extremely popular for a political party. Seems mn is not representative.

WinterHare · 29/08/2019 19:08

The average MNetter i suspect is more intelligent than the petty, small-minded typical Nat supporter and their grievance politics and hatred.

Blanca87 · 29/08/2019 19:12

@TitianTitsling Gammon is not a Country nor a race, don't understand your point, hun.

Blanca87 · 29/08/2019 19:13

P. S I am not an independence supporter eitherConfused

PrimalLass · 29/08/2019 19:17

What are the viable alternatives then?

zsazsajuju · 29/08/2019 19:24

@WinterHare - that’s hilarious. You obviously haven’t read many mumsnet threads.

It’s more likely the demographic is older and wealthier (which skews towards Tory voters even in Scotland). Hence the same old silly nonsense about the SNP spending all the money on Gaelic signs instead of the NHS. Just because it’s not true doesn’t bother anyone just like all the brexit rubbish.

zsazsajuju · 29/08/2019 19:27

You may vote for any number of perfectly legitimate and viable political parties in Scotland, the SNP are far from the only “viable” party. But still around half the electorate choose the SNP.

Lowlandlucky · 29/08/2019 19:45

In one simple word ..... NAW

SuzieBishop · 29/08/2019 19:55

Scottish person here. Voted FUCK NO to Independence. Bloody hate Nicola Sturgeon. No thank you.

InkedGreen · 29/08/2019 21:04

Wow I wish I hadn't! She seems to make slot of sense over brexit and I follow some yes Facebook pages and find her articulate and in touch with the people on the ground

Heard it all now “ Central Scotland is a waste land and the most depressing place in Europe “ ffs this thread is full of delusional idiots.
I’m off again I honestly don’t have enough life left in me to listen to the absolute shite and nonsense that’s being spouted on here.
I’m away back to S& B

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 29/08/2019 22:27

Scottish person here and very happy with our goverment. It's not perfect and, when independence happens, improvement can and will be made. It's certainly better than Westminster. Nicola Sturgeon thinks before she speaks, always a bonus.

StinkyWizleteets · 29/08/2019 22:36

Ah we’ve not seen anSNP /sturgeon bashing post for a millisecond.

It never fails to surprise me how many people on mumsnet hate sturgeon/snp when in real life I rarely meet people displaying such hate. I’m not an SNP voter, nor am I badly educated (as so many like to allude to when discussing Scotland and/or independence) but I certainly don’t recognise the picture the people in these posts paint about Scotland and it’s government.

As for the person who asked who pays for the uni fees and prescriptions etc, that would be the Scottish people, who... funnily enough have to pay tax just like everyone else in the Uk 🙄

QualCheckBot · 29/08/2019 22:36

giggly Heard it all now “ Central Scotland is a waste land and the most depressing place in Europe “ ffs this thread is full of delusional idiots.

Seriously, it is vile. Well, it depends what you are used to I suppose. But Whitburn? Blackburn? Addiewell? Shotts? Caldercruix? The handgun free village itself, Blackridge? Forth? Coatbridge?

It is about as farm removed from the romantic vision of scenic Scotland as you could imagine and unfortunately a lot of Scots live there. I really can't describe how awful it was to live there.

Toodlesdeary · 29/08/2019 23:54

I know tax pays for prescriptions I’m not stupid but I don’t feel using it on free prescriptions etc for people who can easily afford it and baby boxes are the way to use the taxes as we are struggling in other areas. I also think it would deter people from getting paracetamol, ibuprofen and such things on prescription as it’s treated like a freebie, forgetting that the NHS has to stump up a big cost when you can get it for under a pound in a shop. I have a lifelong illness so I benefit from the free prescriptions just now but still think it’s the wrong thing to do. NS is power hungry. It’s amazing how many people say they’ve met her and she seemed nice - that is part of a politician’s job at public engagements, to charm people in to voting for them!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 30/08/2019 07:38

I lived in central Scotland and it was beautiful. Low crime and just beautiful. And there were Scots there too. Not all depressed either.

It’s like saying ‘London is miserable and everyone is horrible’. It depends where you are.

Mrsjayy · 30/08/2019 09:30

I live in central scotland too and no we are not roamin in the gloaming skipping over bracken because we are an actual living and breathing country with declining industry and poverty and the towns and villages that poster mentioned have people living in them have a bit of respect !
