To want to know exactly what LGBT teaching in schools will entail?

There has been lots of attention around the push to teach LGBT issues in schools - Birmingham being the flash point with many parents protesting. AIBU to have doubts about what is going to be taught and to want to know which orgs will be providing the material and exactly what this material teaches?

@letsghostdance

You’d probably find “unbelievable” the things children and young people want to talk about with adults in schools. That’s why we have staff trained in basic mental health support and safeguarding in schools in the UK.

Colleges are all about safeguarding these days. We are compelled to look out for, and act on, signs of grooming re: sexual exploitation, drugs e.g. county lines, and political and religious extremism. Young people are being groomed to think surgery, puberty blockers and chest binders are normal and ok. For the vast majority of people these things are not the answer to their problems are not ok. Being gay is ok.

Agree with every word. Some mental health conditions are not diagnosed in people under the age of 18 and yet we are happy to accept that a five-year-old can know they are “transgender”?

@BuzzShitbagBobbly
I am on your side, I was replying to this

"Teaching children that this is some people's reality will not lead to children suddenly wanting to change gender.*"

Being gay is ok.

And for some children where their family would actually prefer a trans child to a gay one, a teacher or someone they trust telling them that being gay is ok may be a turning point.

My humble apologies for the misunderstanding @NotSayingAWord Thanks

Transgender Trend published this recently. It's feeling pretty topical. www.transgendertrend.com/questions-school-mermaids-training-teachers/

Everyone has a gender identity. For a majority of people if matches their assigned gender at birth. A majority vote of the stuff that students get taught will just be that it’s ok to be lgbt, gay parents exist, regardless of your sexuality you should use some kind of protection during sex and that homophobia is wrong. There is no reason for you to be against this being taugt unless you are some stupid homophobe. Learning about lgbt individuals won’t make your child gay or trans. My proof? I learnt about Hitler but you don’t see me murdering Jews.

Who assigns the gender at birth and what is the criteria?

Everyone has a gender identity.

No, they don't.
