How often do you wash your towels?

I wash mine after two goes and I regularly bleach... husband thinks I'm mental? AIBU??

Weekly (if I remember) on a hot wash. Hand towels when they are dirty or soggy - usually about 3 days in our house. Have never heard of bleaching towels, only dish cloths. Doesn't your house smell of bleach? Surely all that bleaching and washing must wear out the towels quickly?

MaybeitsMaybelline · 29/08/2019 05:35

Not the towel question AGAIN.

Next it will be toilet brushes, peeing in the shower and shoes on/off indoors.

MITCHELL33 · 29/08/2019 06:31

Every other day for us.Once had a friend who said they could dry themselves with a flannel!Ex neighbour used to hang her towel out of the bathroom window often thought "bet that smells like a caretakers mop".

You forgot knickers under PJs 😂

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 29/08/2019 06:52

People wear knickers under their PJs? What oh what is wrong with a squirrel stuffed between the legs and with the tail up the bumhole?

Juann00 · 29/08/2019 07:41

I wash mine when they start to smell a bit , hang them to dry after each use 🥺

LadyCarolinePooterVonThigh · 29/08/2019 08:04

You are all using very large towels! Re the lady who uses a flannel to dry, surely a little hanky would work quite well? It does take longer, but think of the environmental gain!

@sunshineskys - re the long hair & towel.

I too have long hair, I've bought a microfibre towel from eBay, its big enough to wrap up all my hair in a hair turban wrap on the top of my head & the hair towel dries in 10 mins.

I no longer use regular towels for my long hair 👍🏻

Captaindobbin · 29/08/2019 08:14

I have long hair which needs washing nearly every day and my towel is soaking after use, how do people get them to dry out just by hanging them up? Don’t they smell damp if they don’t dry properly?

I assume from this then that you are also tumble drying them every time too as surely a just washed towel is wetter than one you’ve just dried your hair with?! Why can’t you just hang the used towel on the line to dry it.
These threads make me despair. The planet is on its knees and people can’t cope with a towel touching their body unless it’s been washed first Confused

Daffodil101 · 29/08/2019 08:22

I get less mileage out of them in the summer because the heating is switched off. I mean, how are they supposed to dry hanging on a cold radiator?

dayslikethese1 · 29/08/2019 09:08

I always thought it was only my MIL that washed towels after one use and I thought it was barmy but this thread has opened my eyes. Explains why people's energy bills are so high though.

dayslikethese1 · 29/08/2019 09:10

Forgot to say, I probably wash mine every 2 wks and that's if I remember. No towel related diseases here Grin I refuse to spend my life doing laundry.

augustagain · 29/08/2019 09:10

Same here. So up the heating goes and I wonder how I am supposed to be saving energy at all.

augustagain · 29/08/2019 09:11

The squirrel comments had me in stitches when I was sleepless in the middle of the night last night Grin

Everydayishistorytomorrow · 29/08/2019 11:03

My son used to have this (he though hilarious) way of drying between his legs when he way young. Blush We used to wash them every day. Now his older at the very least once a week and everyone has their own colour coded towels.

toomuchtooold · 29/08/2019 11:11

bet that smells like a caretakers mop

Oh god there's a shopping centre near us where the caretaker has never washed out the mop in the whole time we've lived here. It smells even worse than the toilets he cleans with it, and they're so bad that people drag a bin over to hold the door open before going in. We should say something, I know. They just did it up and I'm only hoping that when they refit the whole place they will also think to buy him a new mop Grin

OopsOhNoZHM · 29/08/2019 11:32

If I think they’re at a point where they need washing, I use them to step on to out of the shower/bath first, and to soak up the mess the kids make from splashing in the bath. No point wasting a fresh towel on that, and a towel that’s been used but isn’t dirty might as well have another use before it reaches the washer 🤷🏼‍♀️

augustagain · 29/08/2019 11:52

bet that smells like a caretakers mop

Used to work in NHS and our office kitchen (non-clinical part of hospital) got mopped by the cleaner. The mop STANK. I was about to throw up. The most awful smell I've ever smelt and I've smelled some smells in my time. The cleaner must have known the mop wasn't fit for used. Couldn't have been cleaned/stored properly. She went ahead and mopped the kitchen which had previously smelled fine and became unusable afterwards. VILE!!!!!

Me too but I.just hang the towel over the airer or radiator and it dries fine. And certainly doesn't smell bad!

Spudlet · 29/08/2019 12:16

Swimming towels go on a v hot wash after every use, mostly because the pool changing room floors are always grubby and a wee bit icky. And I only use flannels once for my face, because I get spots - but I have a huge stack so can go a couple of weeks between needing to wash them all.

Otherwise hand towels are changed weekly, bath towels whenever (probably weekly-ish) and once I have enough for a load they go in on a 60 degree fast cycle. Probably once a fortnight or so.

Deadringer · 29/08/2019 15:28

We have a clothes horse on our landing, towels go straight on there after a wash and they dry overnight. No way would my DC, or my dh for that matter leave towels on the floor. I am a self confessed slattern as per my pp but leaving wet or dirty stuff on the floor is disrespectful imo.

LadyCarolinePooterVonThigh · 29/08/2019 17:06

Yes the air needs to circulate for efficient drying, a lightweight clothes horse is a good investment.

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 29/08/2019 18:05

How many flannels do people have and use? I have a face flannel, a foot flannel, a fanny flannel and a floor flannel for wiping out the shower or bath. They were all different bright colours when I started out. Because I wash them all together they have morphed into all being shit colour drab now. I have embroidered face, foot, fanny and floor on them in puce thread.

Naturally I have zillions of them as I can do a load just of them in the washing machine.

Deadringer · 29/08/2019 18:10

I have never used a flannel in my life.

Megan2018 · 29/08/2019 18:11

Ours dry fine within a matter of hours hung on the heated towel rail (which is switched off in Summer). I also need a separate towel for drying my very thick long hair but even that dries fine. Can’t understand why other people struggle?
We’ve lived in a lot of houses and never had an issue with not drying/smell.

I do love it in winter when the towel rail is on though and towels are always toasty. I’d have that and the underfloor heating on all the time if it didn’t cost £. We use large, thick, premium bath sheets too.
