Everyone has their own towels here and they get washed once a week. Same with bedding. Can't say that my towels have ever smelt funny!

Anyone else getting the advert for hotel laundry collection services next to this thread?

No because adverts are representative of what you search for not the topic on this site.

Must be SpiderULike doing some research. they really are the most jolly little fellows you know. Singing and swaying as they go about their business. Even researching the most cost effect cleaning methods for me. I must give them a raise on their wages. Extra flies all round boys and girls.

I do mine most days is no matter what i say they r left on the floor.... my DP folds wet towel..... wtf. Y i can only to piss me off as he wouldnt dream of foldin anything else that should be folded

manicmij · 28/08/2019 20:10

Once a week for bath towels but hand and tea towels changed every couple of days but washed with bath towels. Washing every couple of days is excessive both for wear on the fabrics and the environment. What's all this need for bleaching the life out of sheets and towels.

ElizaDee · 28/08/2019 20:13

@RushianDisney I think you are correct.

nuxe1984 · 28/08/2019 20:21

A touch of OCD I think. If you hang them up after bath/shower then once a week on a hot wash will do.

You're showering every day so they won't be particularly dirty anyway.

Proseccoagain · 28/08/2019 20:47

Shower every day, wash towels once a week on a hot wash. Never done anything different and see no reason to change.

Yeahbutnobutyeah1 · 28/08/2019 20:51

Sorry if this had already been answered but I’ve never heard of bleaching towels (or anything else?)...do you just chuck toilet bleach in with the washing?!

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 28/08/2019 21:51

A touch of OCD I think.

Hmm that’s a diagnosable condition, not just a fondness for zoflora you know! Stop throwing around terms you don’t understand.

Joh66 · 28/08/2019 21:53

Wash after one use. Can't stand mucky towels . . .

HopeClearwater · 28/08/2019 21:55

that’s a diagnosable condition

Yes it is, and an obsession with germs and towel washing might eventually get you that diagnosis.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 28/08/2019 21:57

and an obsession with germs and towel washing might eventually get you that diagnosis.

It might. But I haven’t seen anyone on this thread displaying an obsession with either.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 28/08/2019 22:02

Is your husband a child?

If the towel is dirty after he's had his rugby shower he needs to learn to wash properly.

I can't believe a grown man can have a shower and still not manage to wash himself.

tolerable · 28/08/2019 22:06

I have honestly never bleached a laundry item apart from a pair of wranglers back in the 80's. ..I add (distilled?\the see through one)vinegar in with the towels every now and again,...am sure there was a logic for that but damned if I can remember what it was!..ds2 probably gets a couple of days out a towel.i have a fresh one daily.

sunshineskys · 28/08/2019 22:39

I have long hair which needs washing nearly every day and my towel is soaking after use, how do people get them to dry out just by hanging them up? Don’t they smell damp if they don’t dry properly?

ThighThighOfthigh · 28/08/2019 22:50

I have a confession.

I don't know how often i change my towels, i don't have a system. If it's in the washing basket I'll wash it.

How it got there is also a mystery, i have never thought of towels as an entity. I don't wash them separately.

I'm sorry towels, i just don't see fabric. HTH

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/08/2019 22:59

I don't understand how people who think sharing towels with their dh is grim, ever manage to have sex with their husbands. Do you go over him with Dettol and a Brillo pad first, or do you keep a prim Victorian style nightie on and lift the hem for 2 minutes while you close your eyes and think of England?

HappyParent2000 · 28/08/2019 23:03

Our system for bath towels is get a clean towel, use it, put it on “your spot” on the bannister when dry. Use it as long as you like and then pop it in the basket.

As long as you use your own towel and know which bit drys where it’s fine.

We have “common” towels on the handrails for drying hands and own face clothes for face stuff.

Matching towel sets per person is great, but get each person a different set, don’t have all your towels the same. If you do then you end up washing as you have no idea who’s towel is who’s as they are all the same!

Isthisreallylife · 28/08/2019 23:18

I used to wash my towels every 3/5 days but now it’s gloriously just me in the house so I wash when they either look or smell dirty😂😂
But bleach? Why? My brother once told me if I bleached my toilet then I WOULD end up drinking it! So I don’t use it, plus it’s really harsh for our skin! And no to fabric conditioner as well!....

pigsDOfly · 28/08/2019 23:56

I wash mine after about four uses. I shower every day and use two towels at a time for a shower. As it's only me they do have to hang around in the washing bin waiting for enough similar coloured towels to make up a machine load. They don't get smelly as they don't get that dirty and I don't put them in the washing bin damp.

I have lots of white towels, towels I've had for years, and I've never bleached any of them yet they're still perfectly white.

I can't imagine smothering in bleach, something that I'm going to rub on my body.

I have one use for bleach and that's putting it down the kitchen sink from time to time. It's really harsh stuff, not good for you or the environment.

I agree with your DH, although I'm not sure I'd use the word 'mental', more that what you're doing is completely unnecessary and way over the top.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 29/08/2019 01:09

I wash my towels after each use - they are all white so it’s easier to load together and keep them bright. There are 7 of us so trying to work out whose Rowell is whose is tricky so I just quick wash them daily and tumble dry.

Ginburee · 29/08/2019 01:29

Fuck me sideways and throw me in a bin, I am gobsmacked at the serious over washing of towels on here.
I bet quite a few of you think you are helping the planet by going to specialist weigh and measure shops. But are massively OCD and are wasting water, washing liqued/powder etc and electricity.

Totally OTT.

SummerSun10 · 29/08/2019 04:25

Wow people wash towels after only 1 or 2 uses? No wonder we have a climate crisis, that is seriously wasteful. Please think about the environment and only wash when actually necessary.

Anerak · 29/08/2019 04:52

The washing I understand. If they're dirty then wash, regardless how often they've been used.
The bleaching is unnecessary and excessive and probably not very healthy for your body.
