AIBU to think this is just fucking insane? Is this how it is going to be from now on? As the parent of a rape victim I feel beyond angry. Is no place safe for women now?

Also, just imagine you're trans and a rape victim, and people talk about you like people do here

Has anyone said that trans rape victims shouldn’t have access to rape counsellors? Confused

I think they should. Just not the same service designed for biological females.

Relizeliz · 26/08/2019 21:17

MythicalBiologicalFennel Both are okay - but excluding Trans Women from being volunteers excludes Trans Women from getting help.

It's not a one or the other it's correct it's an inclusive environment.

The charity serves all women and its volunteers can be all women.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 26/08/2019 21:18

That’s not remotely what I suggested,LemonDifficult. Do you have a comprehension problem?

Not at all, I would love to hear your suggestions on where trans women are supposed to seek help.

GCAcademic · 26/08/2019 21:21

The charity serves all women and its volunteers can be all women.

Again, I ask, Relizeliz, how are you defining "woman"? What about the woman whose Tweet I posted earlier whose rapist is now identifying as a woman? Is this person a woman? If so, by what criteria?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/08/2019 21:23

Relizeliz - I notice you're avoiding answering the question of what the definition of a woman is.

Is that because it doesn't fit your woke mantras?

Cheeserton · 26/08/2019 21:24

There is no suggestion anywhere that I can find that vulnerable women will be dealt with by transgender volunteers.
Indeed not. It's pure prejudice and assumption.
Has anyone said that trans rape victims shouldn’t have access to rape counsellors?
Where to start with that. Why wouldn't you want a trans rape victim to be able to benefit from a rape counselling service? Everyone's busy complaining that women shouldn't be subjected to trans counsellors without a shred of proof that this is on the agenda. The level of prejudice here is just nasty, and I'm no general fan of the trans agenda.

Relizeliz · 26/08/2019 21:26

Is a person who is born female and identifies female who commit rape still a woman? Yes. So the same applied.

Cheeserton · 26/08/2019 21:27

From their site:

"And we appreciate that if you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans you may be hesitant about whether you can use our service and we want to reassure you that you can."

I think rape seems to be their priority here, not sex or gender politic.

HeadintheiClouds · 26/08/2019 21:27

Women don’t commit rape, they don’t have a penis. What is your definition of a woman, Reliz?

skybluee · 26/08/2019 21:28

What about people who have phobias of penises, it doesn't matter if it's attached to a male or female. Why do women come at the bottom of the pile yet again, not able to access support (as some people won't feel safe enough to access help if there's the chance they will end up in a room with a volunteer with a penis, when they are meant to talk about something that makes them feel the most vulnerable?). Sick of women always coming last, always at the bottom of the pile, everything trumps women's wishes and feelings of safety it seems. I would not access rape crisis under this criteria.

Captnip500 · 26/08/2019 21:28

Could we establish that this rape crisis centre IS actually seeking out trans women volunteers before we all get our knickers in a twist about some vulnerable women being confront by a man in a dress at the rape crisis centre (which is a totally imagined and highly unlikely scenario). I see no evidence from the link, only that they are look for ‘female’ volunteers. The fact that they don’t specify exactly what body parts or chromosomes such a volunteer must have is more likely a reflection on their unwillingness to get into ‘THAT’ debate.

Relizeliz · 26/08/2019 21:28

I don't have woke ideas. I believe both people born female and who identify female are women and should be supported as such.

It's 2019.

HeadintheiClouds · 26/08/2019 21:29

How do you define “woman”, Reliz?

ShortCircuit181 · 26/08/2019 21:30

Is this centre aimed solely at supporting women or do they cater to a wider demographic?

If the former then I can see the argument, but if the latter then surely this presents the exact same issue that the OP raises if it is staffed solely by females - i.e. imagine being a battered man and calling up to find a woman answering the phone.

Crowdo · 26/08/2019 21:30

This does not bother me even one tiny bit.

Relizeliz · 26/08/2019 21:30

Women don’t commit rape, they don’t have a penis.

Anyone can commit rape, a penis is not a pre-requisite and I'm concerned if this is your narrow definition.

Cheeserton · 26/08/2019 21:31

Can ANYONE present a shred of evidence that women rape victims won't have access to women counsellors from this service just because they cater to all rape victims?

Let me answer that - no. You're just prejudiced.

Relizeliz · 26/08/2019 21:31

A woman is a person who identifies as female as previously stated.

Don't quite understand the reason for being pedantic over this.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 26/08/2019 21:32

That's the definition in UK law Liz.

No concern needed, Reliz. Define “woman”, or admit that you can’t.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 26/08/2019 21:33

I think rape seems to be their priority here, not sex or gender politic.

I think quite a few people on this thread should take heed of this too tbh.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 26/08/2019 21:33

What is a female then Liz?

Butchyrestingface · 26/08/2019 21:33

Where to start with that. Why wouldn't you want a trans rape victim to be able to benefit from a rape counselling service?

I agree that there’s absolutely no reason that a trans rape victim shouldn’t benefit from rape counselling services. I was trying to establish whether such a view had actually been espoused on this thread. Which, I gather, it hasn’t.

flirtygirl · 26/08/2019 21:33

Relizeliz needs to open a biology book. The fact it is 2019 does not change science.

You also need to look at the legal definition of rape.
