To wonder if some posters realise some people lie on threads?

So when people say how much they earn, how much they spend on a holiday, how handsome their DH is, do you realise that some people will not be truthful?
I ask because I see comments all the time about how well-off most MN are. I have been to meet ups, and most MN are pretty ordinary women. Lovely, funny and kind, but not super wealthy with amazing homes and husbands, just ordinary. Of course there will be some women on MN who are very well-off but they are not the norm here.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/08/2019 21:30

Everybody lies.

TheFaerieQueene · 22/08/2019 21:36

I really don’t believe very much on here at all. I reply to a few threads but am fully cognisant of the fact that a good percentage of the threads are bollocks.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/08/2019 21:37

Oh god @myteresa I just found that thread, it’s amazing. The best bit is MNHQ coming on to advise not to troll hunt because they thought people had misunderstood the brief. Errrr, no they didn’t.

Worth a read, the lying starts on page 3

NoTheresa · 22/08/2019 21:37

ShirleyPhallus

Yes @NoTheresa! But i also think there are a lot of really ugly outfits on S&B posted too

Yep.

I also find the ones posted in workplace loos a bit odd. Why not use your bland little bedroom instead of a horrible tiled loo? Don’t you worry that somebody might come in and find you doing that pigeon-toed pose in front of the mirror? Jeez

CutsAndSnoozes · 22/08/2019 21:41

I actually find it easier baring all in here, than I do telling people IRL.

I don't lie to people IRL but I'm very uncomfortable saying many of the things I post on MN.

I can change my name on here frequently and hopefully no one knows me or recognises me from other posts.

Obviously certain details have to be omitted for privacy but there's a difference between being sensible online and lying.

I've also known people who tell absolute porkers online for fun (don't know them anymore, they weren't nice).

Different strokes etc.

I wish everyone could be truthful, we are all more interesting than many of us think without embellishments. I'm morbidly obese though I'm aware I'm still small compared to the people you see on the TV programs about it. What satisfaction could I get from lying about my weight on here.

AllBellsNoWhistles · 22/08/2019 21:47

@ThinkGlow
Your BMI is 2?? 😱 you're obese!!

My BMI is 00 which perfectly matches my size 00 dress size. Designer dress that is, I mean who but a pauper would pay less than at least £1000 for a dress darling?
I spend £5 per week in waitrose on zoflora which I absolutely insist that the cleaner uses. Our food is free as I send my gardener out to source roadkill and forage berries, which my cook prepares amazing meals with in my £30k kitchen, which is housed in my 8 bedrooms 10 bathroomed detached home.
I'm obviously too busy running my business which involves flying round the world regularly and my handsome husband is far too busy in his 6 figure career to read the children a bed time story, hence we have 2 nannies and an au pair. We have 2 nannies so the children could have one each. Obviously we only had 2 children for environmental reasons, I mean someone has to save the whales or something.
Anyway, I am now relaxing in my PJs, pure silk of course, with a nice chilled cava, in a Waterford Crystal wine glass of course. I will ensure that I burn the calories off in the morning with an extra hard workout with my personal trainer.

Disclaimer. All of the above is absolute bollocks, but appears to fit the MN narrative.

HattieHu · 22/08/2019 21:50

Duh

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/08/2019 21:51

I am rubbish at spotting things. Have been on here for years. Nothing that I have posted has ever been untrue or embellished. I had a very long running divorce saga that ran to 3 threads. To be honest, looking back, it must have looked like something I'd dreamt up after a night on crack, but it was all true! I also know that some people in RL know I am on here and know my MN name so it would be utterly pointless being a twat. Indeed, somebody, I'll never know who recognised the fairly specific circumstances and details in my threads and alerted my husband and OW. He turned up to court with 3,000 posts printed out because he considered them "contempt". Again, that sounds ridiculous, but it happened!

I was, however, very irritated by a poster the other day telling somebody who was worrying about her tummy during menopause, but weighing less than 8 stone that she was "probably carrying dangerous visceral fat" Hmm

User10fuckingmillion · 22/08/2019 21:56

Why tf would you lie about your measurements to strangers on the internet though?

CutsAndSnoozes · 22/08/2019 21:57

@ShirleyPhallus I had to go look at that thread. I'd love a room like one of those clean, tidy, spacious airy ones. Was sorely tempted to post a real-time shot of ours to this thread here, because it's fucking disgraceful, I think I've now found something I won't lie about but won't post a photo of either because the truth is too awful Grin

User10fuckingmillion · 22/08/2019 21:57

I lie a hell of a lot less on Mumsnet then I do in real life!

TrainspottingWelsh · 22/08/2019 22:06

Shame you included that disclaimer allbells I was going to offer you all my size 00 I still have from when I was that huge. I’m now a size -10. Plus I like to give to the poor, which you so obviously are with only 1 nanny per child and such a tiny house. The shed in my third home is bigger. But I don’t like to judge.

Tiptopj · 22/08/2019 22:13

There was a thread a while ago that made me smile a while ago about using mrs or ms as a title. The first page consisted of an awful lot of Dr's... Wink

PennyNotSoWise · 22/08/2019 22:14

I was, however, very irritated by a poster the other day telling somebody who was worrying about her tummy during menopause, but weighing less than 8 stone that she was "probably carrying dangerous visceral fat

That's why I hate the 'what size are you and what do you weigh' type threads. There's always bullshit comments like that one, and it's just dangerous.

I hate to say it, but I always imagine those kind of comments come from people who are overweight and really unhappy in themselves, so just project.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 22/08/2019 22:14

Some people exaggerate a bit, make themselves a bit thinner, their kids a bit taller (on the 14yr old thread ALL MN posters had 14yr old DSs of 6ft and over Grin)

all MN DSs are "slim and fit", easily live of £50 a week for food for a family of 4..... despite being "high earners" Grin

And some posters make up entire fictional lives! I remember one lady called LeQ... who had a massive following. Bet she is an influenster now as she was gooooood!

FermatsTheorem · 22/08/2019 22:16

Ilovesooty - Well fuck me sideways with a parsnip. I'd never thought of that. grin

Grin

People lie on the internet. Who knew?

In other news, OP, the pope is Catholic and bears shit in the woods.

ErikaJayne · 22/08/2019 22:20

Quite, OP! It’s astounding how many MNrs’ that children got 10 x 9s at GCSE today.

WatcherOfTheNight · 22/08/2019 22:21

AIBU is full of trolls storytellers ,if you delve further into the forum,IMO you'll find that in many other areas there are a lot of very knowledgeable, remarkable women that go out of their way to give support & kindness.

AllBellsNoWhistles · 22/08/2019 22:21

I have some brand new designer judgy pants that I can give to you @TrainSpottingWelsh as it appears you are too poor to buy your own.
Your shed is your third home? My shed houses my Ferrari. My second shed houses my run around range rover.

Disclaimer. My shed actually houses 2 knackered pushbikes, a selection of half used paint pots, colours various of, and various other bits of crap.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 22/08/2019 22:23

In defence of some MNers my DS is 13 and 6ft 2 and that was verified by an actual real life consultant who measured him a couple of weeks ago at fracture clinic. He's a nightmare for food though and never stops eating, so the whole "I shop for under £50" is clearly bullshit written by Gwyneth Paltrow types who use avocado skins for slippers. I find it impossible to spend under £100 on the weekly shop because I am a child easily influenced by 'offers' and buy all sorts of unnecessary shite which then leads to me being the perfect weight for someone 7 inches taller than I currently am (still hoping for the growth spurt to kick in at almost 40).

A lot of the made-up stuff on any kind of social media or forum must be based on insecurity. It's a double-edged sword because it can be an incredibly supportive place but it can also make you feel like a fucking potato. Very little middle ground.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 22/08/2019 22:31

Fudgebrownie, yes but it can't be right that 95% of 14 yr olds are 6ft2

It is true for some kids. Obv!

PennyNotSoWise · 22/08/2019 22:31

The shed in my third home is bigger. But I don’t like to judge.

You only have a shed? Lawd, you're so common, I'm arrrctually physically cringing that you think that's brag-worthy.

Our 'shed' is actually a mansion, in the garden of our mansion.

I say ours, it's more a man cave for my super gorgeous, 7ft tall, super ripped DH to escape to when he arrives home of a weekend in his private helicopter from his 6 figure salary, high flying, really really, super important highly demanding super super important job.

FermatsTheorem · 22/08/2019 22:33

My other shed's a Palladian villa.

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/08/2019 22:37

@PennyNotSoWise I agree. Totally unnecessary comment given the poster concerned was probably just dealing with peri bloat like the rest of us.

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/08/2019 22:38

Why do you doubt people think their husbands are attractive? Mine is bloody gorgeous. Jealous?
