Talk me down from this tattoo

I'm in my 40's and have always wanted a tattoo! I've just never settled on what to have.

I'm really liking the idea of using the ink print of ds's foot when he was just born. It's pretty small so wouldn't be like a honking great foot on me. Grin

I'm not sure where I'd have it, maybe my foot?

Aibu? Is this horribly cheesy and naff? Blush

VLCDoingIt · 22/08/2019 18:53

It is cheesy and naff. Sorry Blush

WorraLiberty · 22/08/2019 18:54

I only know 3 parents who have had their baby's footprints tattooed on them and sadly that's because the babies died.

That might be something to consider (or not, I really don't know).

CarrieBlu · 22/08/2019 18:54

It’s not to my taste but I much prefer to see a meaningful tattoo than some of the generic shite that some people have tattooed on their bodies. So if you like it, go for it.

Louisasasa · 22/08/2019 18:55

Would look like your DS had kicked you with muddy feet

Bezalelle · 22/08/2019 18:56

Too cheesy, and it might not come out looking like what it's meant to.

pinkyredrose · 22/08/2019 18:56

Don't think it would work well on a foot, a more flat part of your body might work better.

ChestOfFields · 22/08/2019 18:56

I'd draw it the best you can on your foot first to see if you like it there!
I have a small endless knot on my foot and i love it!

AmIAWeed · 22/08/2019 18:56

I have both my kids feet tattooed along with the last line of the poem footprints in the sand.
Bollocks to what people to think. It's your body, it's on you and you have to live with it.
If you like it do it

ElspethFlashman · 22/08/2019 18:57

Look on Pinterest for ideas, that's usually the easiest way. Make a folder and chuck every one you find in there.

Footprint tattoos can look a but murky and fuzzy, that's the only thing I'd consider. Maybe it would be nicer and more modern in dotwork, so check out if anyone's done one of those.

Feet tattoos are best done in summer for healing purposes as you can wear flip-flops. They are also quite sore! But searching will give you ideas for where people have placed similar designs.

Cryalot2 · 22/08/2019 19:02

It must be an age thing . At 40 I had a small dolphin done on an ankle . It can be covered if need be ( I have never felt the need to) I am glad I got it and have never regretted it.
I may get another next year , something small . I was always anti them .
Just make sure you get it done well.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 22/08/2019 19:04

The thing with tattoos is that what you love won't ever be everyone else's cup of tea, so asking opinions on here you're going to get some negative replies.

My rule with tattoos is I have to love, love, love them before I get them. I also never get them on the spur of the moment; they've all been planned and thought-out. That way even if someone else looks and thinks "what a load of shite" it will always be something I adore.

@WorraLiberty oh God. I should check that's not a thing.

StoneofDestiny · 22/08/2019 19:07

Why - Are you likely to forget your child had a foot when he was born?

karenbokaren · 22/08/2019 19:07

@pinkyredrose Don't think it would work well on a foot, a more flat part of your body might work better.

I do have very small feet so you might be right. I just wanted somewhere a bit 'edgy'. Definitely having a bit of a 40's crisis. I just had my hair dyed blonde too. Grin

karenbokaren · 22/08/2019 19:08

I'm not sure I have any flat bits anymore. Grin

AudacityOfHope · 22/08/2019 19:10

I would say, if it's something you want, just bloody get it. It's meaningful to you right?

I never wanted a tattoo until I woke up at 38 with an idea I couldn't get rid of. Now I've got three...beware it being quite addictive once you begin!

ChocChocButtons · 22/08/2019 19:11

Cheesy/naff but your body etc..

sycamore54321 · 22/08/2019 19:12

I am not a tattoo fan at all so maybe that makes my opinion completely discountable but...

... this seems particularly odd to me, and could make your child uncomfortable in the future. Would you want your own foot branded on your parent? As a teen? As an adult? I really don’t think I would.

I also think a tattoo of a foot on a foot would look very strange, so if you absolutely have to, please at least not on the foot.

So, unsurprisingly that’s a No from me.

PookieDo · 22/08/2019 19:12

I have a foot tattoo. It really really fucking hurt!

karenbokaren · 22/08/2019 19:12

After googling it the footprints do look a bit weird on the foot.

Each to his own and all but fucking hell, this one.....

Tattoos are not edgy.

Raphael34 · 22/08/2019 19:15

My partner has our 3 children’s footprints (both feet) printed across his torso with their names and DOB’s written across them in different colours. I love them

karenbokaren · 22/08/2019 19:15

I'd actually be thrilled if my Mother had given enough of a shit about me to not up and leave when I was small. Can't quite imagine her doing anything like having a tattoo of my foot but I'd not mind one bit.

Although maybe his future partners might think it's a bit creepy.

I have actually asked him and he said he'd rather a picture of his face. And we all know how those can go.

OP posts:
WonderTweek · 22/08/2019 19:17

I'm all for tattoos and like them a lot, but I've also noticed that a lot of parents who have lost babies have got little footprint tattoos. They're obviously not exclusively for those parents but good to be aware.

What about a drawing your child has made as a toddler? Nothing quite like squiggles. Grin
