I'm in my 40's and have always wanted a tattoo! I've just never settled on what to have.

I'm really liking the idea of using the ink print of ds's foot when he was just born. It's pretty small so wouldn't be like a honking great foot on me. Grin

I'm not sure where I'd have it, maybe my foot?

Aibu? Is this horribly cheesy and naff? Blush

OP posts:
YesQueen · 22/08/2019 20:01

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel I'll be wrinkly and decorated Grin and I don't think I'll be flashing my thighs or back
Nobody ever says scars will look horrible when you're older, and every tattoo of mine tells a story as much as my scars do
I'll look fucking fabulous if I make that age, tattoos or not

dustarr73 · 22/08/2019 20:08

Please, just don't. Think how it will look when you are in your 70s - all wrinkly and horrid. Cannot wait for the backlash when all these 'young' people get older and realise they just look awful!!

I couldnt give a shiny shite. And its not only young people who get tattoos.Im 46 and have 18 tattoos.Starting at 17 and only got one a few weeks ago.

Look @karenbokaren my son got his sons foot tattooed on his arm, with his dob.And its adorable. And i have no excuse to forget his birthday Grin

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 22/08/2019 20:18

If you want it get it, I have several tattoos, I don't imagine everyone likes them but I do. And when I'm old and wrinkly I'll still love the story behind them, my skin will show I've lived my life and I'm absolutely fine with that. I intend to get the birth flower for the month my son is born as a tattoo although being due at the end of a month I don't know what that'll be yet.

LemonPrism · 22/08/2019 20:21

It's look like a dirty great smudge or a memorial to a dead infant.

Do something artistic and beautiful not a big, dark splodge shape.

LemonPrism · 22/08/2019 20:24

I only had one tattoo aged 18. It has its less perfect places but I still adore it.

Have always wanted more but never liked one as much so never bothered.

ReapersHowler · 22/08/2019 20:25

The picture is sweet and has meaning. If you want a tattoo do it for you and to hell with what anyone else thinks. When you're old and wrinkly the tattoo might look shit but the memory it invokes is always going to make you smile.

LemonPrism · 22/08/2019 20:26

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel I don't think well care that our tattoos are gross and wrinkly... the rest of us will be too. Well hardly be attempting to win modelling contracts

Ponoka7 · 22/08/2019 20:27

"Please, just don't. Think how it will look when you are in your 70s - all wrinkly and horrid."

So ypur tattoo will match the rest of you?

Wrinkly and horrid? Charming.

I'm in my 50's and already don't give a shit about aging (which is a privilege) or other people's opinion. By my 70's, i suspect I'll be on a mission to make sure i shock.

OP I only don't like these because, i too associate them with loss. But a tattoo should be meaningful to you, so it's totally your choice.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 22/08/2019 20:29

I love the picture but not as a tattoo sorry unless it could be worked into something as part of a bigger design.
As for whether to get it or not, go for it

AWitchesHat · 22/08/2019 20:29

OP, you get what tattoo you want. If you love it then it doesn’t matter what others think. Your body so you do you.

missmouse101 · 22/08/2019 20:29

They all go navy blue and smudged and look shite in the end.

Gindrinker43 · 22/08/2019 20:31

Imagine what it will look like when you are in your 70's. Not cool.

YesQueen · 22/08/2019 20:32

This is my latest. Not healed yet

Talk me down from this tattoo
SillyLittleBiscuit · 22/08/2019 20:43

Old wrinkly bodies look like old wrinkly bodies with or without tattoos. Not sure what kind of backlash is expected.

OP, I really like the drawing as a tattoo. I dint see how you could regret something that means so much to you.

motherheroic · 22/08/2019 20:47

Really naff. Never looks good, even if it's done by a good artist. Same with animal paw prints.

Jaynesworld · 22/08/2019 20:57

What about getting his name? Depending on the design, they can look lovely.

Writersblock2 · 22/08/2019 21:01

Get the ink. Screw regrets; life is way too short.

Says me, getting another tattoo at the weekend.

pinkyredrose · 22/08/2019 21:42

I love your DCs drawing! Would definitely make a great tattoo!

TheJoxter · 22/08/2019 21:49

That drawing is lovely! And such a sweet moment to remember

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 22/08/2019 21:51

His drawing is adorable and would make a lovely small tattoo (wrist maybe?)

Dilligaf81 · 22/08/2019 21:56

His first picture is an adorable idea.
I had a friend do this and it looks great and she has some awful (IMHO) tattoos.

TheKarateKitty · 22/08/2019 22:00

I wonder if you asking is your answer?
Take time to think about if you really want it.

If so, I suggest to make it something more symbolic of your child, like a favorite plush toy. The drawing is sweet, and I agree with another poster to frame it.

The foot is generally a bad place for a tattoo when it comes to pain, and more importantly, longevity (fades quicker - there are videos and articles/blog posts on body parts and tattoo longevity).

If you decide to go ahead with it, really think of what you want, in what style. Then research what artist will be the best for the style you want, look at cleanliness and knowledge of proper procedures, and also reviews of the attitude of the artist. They should have plenty of pictures of their work on social media. You can then talk to the artist and see if he or she wants to do it, and then have them draw up your ideal tattoo.

I know single needle tattoos are trendy now, but I would advise against that for the sake of preventing blow out and quick fading.

As for the aging thing, that’s something for some to consider of course. Part of that is genetics, and part is good care of your body and tattoo. Look up tattoo aftercare as well, also lots of good info out there to maintain vibrancy and avoid it turning into a blob eventually (sun damage).

Louisasasa · 22/08/2019 23:35

The drawing is very sweet but I wouldn’t have it tattooed. If one of my parents had had one of my drawings I’d done as a child tattooed, I’d be a bit Hmm once out of childhood

BelgianWhistles · 23/08/2019 00:39

I mean, obviously it's fucking shit, he was tiny. But is it shit in a cute way or just shit shit way?

This made me laugh. I like you OP Grin

I think it’s shit in a cute way.

ChillinLikeAVillain · 23/08/2019 01:47

Cannot wait for the backlash when all these 'young' people get older and realise they just look awful!!

Do you not realise that tattoos haven't just been invented for today's generation? They've been around way longer than that and there's many wrinkly old people with tattoos now. There's been no "backlash"

OP all I will say is do what the fuck you want with your own body. Make it look how you want it to look and fuck the arseholes who think other people should look how they want them too.

I think one of the reasons a lot of women only get them in their 40s is because they've been to self conscious about what people think and as you get old you give less of a fuck because life is getting shorter.

These women look fucking amazing in their 60s with their tattoos.
