So due to all the anti Vaxers the WHO have stripped us of our measles free status.
What next ?

I understand the controversial points here. That’s just where I come out on it. I don’t want people telling me what chemicals I have to put into my child’s body.

I don't understand the mentality that doesn't want to put chemicals into their child's body but is fine with leaving their child exposed to an entirely avoidable risk of potentially very harmful bacteria entering their child's body.

Breathlessness · 19/08/2019 11:45

Vaccination cuts the number of reported cases of the disease and so lowers the risk of being exposed to the virus.

Choices have consequences. If you choose not to vaccinate your child it has real consequences for other people. If you decide to abdicate responsibility for the effect that your choice has on society why should society carry any responsibility for you?

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 19/08/2019 11:46

Does your child ever eat or drink anything that you havent given them directly? Do they breathe air outside your house? You are letting other people put chemicals inside your childs body. Every day. Get a grip

Vasya · 19/08/2019 11:48

That doesn’t make me to blame for that. I am not to blame for other people’s health conditions. My child isn’t to blame either. I will do what I believe is best for my child.

Unfortunately I suspect this is true.

I don’t want people telling me what chemicals I have to put into my child’s body

Everything is chemicals. Food is chemicals. Sun screen is chemicals. Shampoo is chemicals. Calling vaccines 'chemicals' as though this is something uniquely scary about them is bad science and fear mongering.

Erm... everything in the universe is made up of chemicals. It frustrates me when people misuse the word. Perhaps we need better science education.

But I don’t have to eat particular foods or use particular cosmetics either. It’s a choice. Chemicals are powerful things and if I don’t want them inside my child until I am satisfied my child should have them, that is my decision.

I don’t see how that is relevant to the fact that I have the right to say no to a particular unnecessary chemical compound being injected into my body. Some chemicals are going to be there anyway. Of course. What difference does that make?

I have a grip. Some chemicals occur naturally in my child’s body. Some they will ingest without my knowledge. A vaccination is a choice.

Which particular chemicals do you object to out of interest? You’d probably be surprised at how many everyday foods contain the very ‘chemicals’ that anti-vaxxers object to.

I didn’t. I vaccinated my child, because I am confident it wasn’t harmful. But it was and needs to be a choice.

I’m not an anti-vaxxer.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 19/08/2019 12:00

What chemicals are you worried about specifically, if you think they're worse than chemicals in food and drink?

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 19/08/2019 12:01

And apologies saying get a grip probably wasnt very helpful!

JenniR29 · 19/08/2019 12:01

Then why are you arguing like one? I take it you have no personal objection to any chemicals then?

herculepoirot2 · 19/08/2019 12:01

I don't like coercion either, but what are we to do, return to the Middle Ages?

The Middle Ages were pretty coercive.

herculepoirot2 · 19/08/2019 12:01

Not until I have reason to believe they are harmful. 🤷🏻‍♀️

herculepoirot2 · 19/08/2019 12:02

I don’t. I think they might be. It depends what someone proposes.

Vasya · 19/08/2019 12:04

I’m not an anti-vaxxer.

I just find this quite hard to believe. I don't know why you would argue as though you were one if you weren't?

I think you just don't want to admit that you didn't vaccinate because you think that the antivax arguments that you make sound more authoritative or reasonable if they come from someone who appears not to be an antivaxxer.

🤷🏻‍♀️

I can’t help your imagination.

DioneTheDiabolist · 19/08/2019 12:06

M,M and R are powerful, debilitating diseases that can cause permanent damage and death. Fortunately we have made amazing progress in medicine that has almost eradicated these illnesses.

Unfortunately, some people are utter fuckwits who really do believe that reading a FB page is better than actual scientific research.Hmm These fuckwits recklessly endanger their own children so it's hardly surprising they dont give a shit about anyone else.Angry

Vasya · 19/08/2019 12:07

I can’t help your imagination.

No - but I suspect that in this case I'm pretty close to the truth.

JenniR29 · 19/08/2019 12:09

‘Not until I have reason to believe they are harmful. 🤷🏻‍♀️‘

Well many are, you can die from drinking too much water. You take a calculated risk that an everyday chemical won’t harm you. Sadly a lot of people are not very good at maths or critical thinking.

Bodicea · 19/08/2019 12:10

This makes me so angry. I ended up privately vaccinating my 10 month old as I was in an area with a measles outbreak. Babies actually lose most of their immunity by 9 months. The nhs needs to look at bringing the standard age of vaccination down to 9 or 10 months if this continues x

herculepoirot2 · 19/08/2019 12:11

Sure. But it is my risk to take or not to take. If I decide I don’t want any more water, nobody has the right to force me to drink it unless I lack the capacity to make decisions.

JenniR29 · 19/08/2019 12:12

@Bodicea I have a newborn, it makes me boil with rage that she is in danger because some people don’t understand science or decide that the rules don’t apply to them.
