Ok am going to admit to liking listening to bit of 1980s power ballad shite. However listing to Phil Collins - and had a thought that it sounds like a sound track for the divorced man. Agree?

He is correctly known as Phl FUCKING Cll*ns.

daisyboocantoo · 16/08/2019 23:18

Hé is divorced.

I don't understand what you mean OP

Pardonwhat · 16/08/2019 23:19

I must be a divorced man Grin

MyKingdomForACaramel · 16/08/2019 23:19

@daisyboocantoo did he happen to write things like “take a look at me now” afterward?

MyKingdomForACaramel · 16/08/2019 23:20

I think about 90% of the songs Phil Collins wrote are about his divorce 😂

Brefugee · 16/08/2019 23:22

back in the early 80s when Face Value came out it was a break up album for his first marriage. Story is that his wife went off with their painter/decorator. Which is why when he was on TOTP he had a bucket of paint and a brush on his piano.

Sparklingbrook · 16/08/2019 23:24

When there's just a sleb's name as a thread title I always think they have died.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 16/08/2019 23:26

Omg he dumped his wife by fax!!

OP posts:
Hoghgyni · 16/08/2019 23:26

I always thought there was an element of risk in calling his autobiography "Not dead yet" after David Bowie, George Michael, Prince....

MyKingdomForACaramel · 16/08/2019 23:27

They just have such a whiff of over dramatic divorces man about them (and I’ll admit they are my guilty pleasure so not knocking this)

I love Phil Collins 😍

ScreamingValenta · 16/08/2019 23:33

Nowt wrong with a birrov our Phil!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 16/08/2019 23:36

I agree. His songs sound like the musings of a remorseful divorced man moping sadly into his pint. Definitely not my cup of tea!

MyKingdomForACaramel · 16/08/2019 23:42

See I love a bit of Phil too - but just did maybe too much of a marathon and realised he’s a self indulgent type of guy

OP posts:
Yabbers · 16/08/2019 23:43

Song writers write about their lives. Shocker.

Katinski · 16/08/2019 23:43

Katherine, I'm feeling the love tooSmile

Goingonagondola · 16/08/2019 23:44

Yep this. Died or been arrested for historical allegations.

quitefranklyivehadenough · 16/08/2019 23:44

Love a bit of Phil. "You can't hurry love" was the song playing at the disco when I had my first kiss with the love of my life. Makes me cry every time 😢

MyKingdomForACaramel · 16/08/2019 23:44

@Yabbers it’s not so much that he’s obviously writing as divorcee it’s the self pitying. (But still like the songs l)

dustarr73 · 16/08/2019 23:48

I think about 90% of the songs Phil Collins wrote are about his divorce

It was the only way he could afford them Grin

Yabbers · 17/08/2019 00:10

it’s not so much that he’s obviously writing as divorcee it’s the self pitying

Because Adele’s songs are uplifting an optimistic?

And P!nk writes so positively about her relationships?

My guilty secret is that I really, really quite enjoy a lot of Phil Collins music. It feels really naff but fuck it the man could knock out a good tune and he's a very distinctive drummer, which is a pretty unique talent in some way. Two Hearts, Easy Lover, Jesus Loves Me, In The Air Tonight, etc. They are great.

I can't give him credit for Can't Hurry Love because it was The Supremes who made that famous. Though I do remember as a child being surprised that there was only one Collins because I really did think there was a band called The Collins Brothers, with Phil and his two brothers because of the video.

Aw I love a bit of Phil. My boyfriend when I was 16 serenaded me with Groovy Kind of Love at a karaoke night - swoon! We came out of the venue and it had snowed. Most romantic night of my life, peaked too early!

Shortly after that I bought a The Cure album trying to be all edgy but I didn’t like it so I took it back and swapped it for Phil Collins. My friend who was a proper music fan was horrified!!
