£99 on sweets

AIBU to be annoyed with dh?

He has taken dc to captain candy in Dubrovnik Croatia which is essentially a pick n mix place. He bought three bags of sweets and it came to £99.

The price is unclear and it is a tourist trap.

If anyone goes to captain candy please avoid.

I can't believe it still.

Ridiculous!

I spent about £13 on fudge at the ideal home. What a rip off

MadisonAvenue · 16/08/2019 22:25

We saw these shops in Prague, they looked very inviting but didn't seem to display the price a very clearly.

IHateUncleJamie · 16/08/2019 22:27

We were in Dubrovnik 4 years ago and dd got a bag of pick n mix sweets from that shop - it was no more than around 8 Euros because I would have refused to buy them had it been more (having already spent about 15 bloody Euros on La Roche Posay Anthelios in the pharmacy up the main street.

The sweets were a bit crap tbh so I’m glad they weren’t jaw droppingly expensive - is the shop under new management? Or were the 3 bags of sweets literally massive?

SageYourResoluteOracle · 16/08/2019 22:27

@HeadintheiClouds I was being sarky and self-mocking and can only blame the heat for my aberration! But yeah. Lobster isn't ever cheap and in the real, non -holiday world I know this. Honestly don't know what came over me!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/08/2019 22:34

< yawns >

Please show the sweets . . . I want to go to bed.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 16/08/2019 22:34

Seriously craving a cola bottle right now

KronksSpinachPuffs · 16/08/2019 22:35

This makes me feel better about the time I blindly paid in kuna for a tube of pringles on a ferry from Split to Hvar ... worked it out after I'd sat down and they cost me £8! For 1 tube!! I didnt share them Grin

Violashift · 16/08/2019 22:37

Totally not worth it.

I’ve been in that shop and the pricing is displayed. That’s a fuck tonne of sweets for £99

Nydj · 16/08/2019 22:40

I hope you are enjoying it in Cavtat - it’s so beautiful - we visited it a couple of times when we were in Dubrovnik a few years ago. Oh and yes, those sweets sound like a complete rip off!

HeadintheiClouds · 16/08/2019 22:41

Sorry, Sage, I missed that, I thought you were serious. Hope it tasted good!

Violashift · 16/08/2019 22:42

Cavtat is beautiful.

Dubrovnik was also pretty but we got tourist trapped. 🙈

Bought a few bags of sweets and some hot chocolate packs in Costa Rica a couple of months ago, didn't really pay that much attention to the exchange rate as they were in a local supermarket rather than from the tourist shops - I thought we'd spent about £25 max, turned out to be £70 BlushConfused.
Luckily my lovely DP just said 'oh well, mistakes happen'. If it was him that made the cock up id have probably hit the roof!!
Annoying thing is that if we'd bought them from the tourist shops, there was a deal on for two free bags of chocsEnvy.

Violashift · 16/08/2019 22:44

Thanks for all of your stories. You are making me feel slightly better.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/08/2019 22:51

WTF. Shock. That’s an utter disgrace and day light robbery. They might as well take it out your arse pocket. Some people don’t even get that a week to live on. I’d be furious, too.
I’d have left them there. Both on principle and The simple fact that. I certainly haven’t got £99 to be scattering around.
I remember one time at when there was a Christmas market where we live and my mum was at the pick and a bag of sweets came to £12. My just said.” I’m not paying that. The pound shop’s only over there.”

Branster · 16/08/2019 22:53

Oh dear, you shall be retelling this story for many years to come when the pain of feeling mugged will have subsided.
Please let us see the magic sweets photo!
Northersoullover I completely forgot the same happened to me about a year ago. I didn’t even consider the cost because it was olives not gold, got a nice mix of very nice olives and pickled garlic biggest pot they had, nearly £30 later I felt quite silly and DH asked if that was our gourmet dinner for that day when I told him Grin
The worst experience was paying £10 for a small bag of beautiful large chestnuts from the local farm shop. Got home and it turns out they were old which I could only see when I cut the top to prepare for roasting and the label said they were from China - I didn’t think to check the label in shop I would not have touched them if I knew where they came from all that distance plus I’m never keen on Chinese produce as I suspect a lot of over treatment of crops. Same shop a few month before I paid nearly £40 for a very small piece of steak but was too embarrassed to question it at the time and wasn’t sure what item in my small shop was the culprit but I checked receipt at home and called them to make sure they didn’t charge for caviar instead. Daylight robbery!

Violashift · 16/08/2019 22:53

It is disgraceful. I don't know how they can justify it.

More fool him 🤷🏽‍♀️

HeadintheiClouds · 16/08/2019 22:54

Well, it’s not necessarily a disgrace until op shows what they got for £99. You could spend that in the pound shop too. You’d get a hell of a lot of sweets for it, admittedly, but maybe op got a binbag full?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/08/2019 22:55
