AIBU to be annoyed with dh?

He has taken dc to captain candy in Dubrovnik Croatia which is essentially a pick n mix place. He bought three bags of sweets and it came to £99.

The price is unclear and it is a tourist trap.

If anyone goes to captain candy please avoid.

I can't believe it still.

Ridiculous!

To be fair Fiona I spent a week in Dubrovnik and didn’t notice it, you might have got away with it.

Tootytata · 16/08/2019 22:05

I went to Dubrovnik last month and found it expensive. I think the old town is definitely a tourist trap! They have prices in Euros too. If anyone is going, don't pay in Euros. It's more expensive to pay in Euros since this is a foreign currency in Croatia. (They round the prices up in Euros).

JasperTheFriendlyGhost · 16/08/2019 22:06

omg that’s ridiculous!!! £99Shock

Wantapony · 16/08/2019 22:06

That shop is visually stunning, but the prices (not clear) are shocking. We visited Croatia&Slovenia this summer and it's so beautiful. Sadly we found Dubrovnik ridiculously expensive with rude dismissive locals who appear to hate tourists. It had a cynical feel to it, whereas Split, Koper and other places along the coastline were super friendly, just as pretty and reasonably priced.

We only went on a day trip from cavtat.Shock

🍭🍬🍫🍭🍡
That'll be £53028375.24 please.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2019 22:09

But 3 kilos of sweets is sacks and sacks of them. A normal 'share bag' is what, 150g, so it's like he's bought about 20 big bags, so it's the amount as well as the high price that means they've cost so much.

How many people is he buying for? They're going to have to eat them before they fly home or else they'll be stung for excess baggage too.

furrybadger · 16/08/2019 22:10

Holy shit I think I would die 😱

CoffeeRunner · 16/08/2019 22:12

DS2 put half a dozen pieces of fudge in a pick & mix bag in Blackpool a good 7 or 8 years ago. £11 they wanted!

Pick & Mix is the work of the devil.

thenightsky · 16/08/2019 22:12

We went to an outlet village last week and I spent £12.72 at the Lindt Pick and Mix

I went for the £22 massive bag. Way better value than their Pick and mix.

percheron67 · 16/08/2019 22:13

Goodness! I would expect 3 Sacks for that!!

HeadintheiClouds · 16/08/2019 22:13

Is it literally three kilos?? Why would you want that much sugary shite?!

SageYourResoluteOracle · 16/08/2019 22:14

This has made me feel marginally better about our own whoopsie moment last week: we were staying in Kos and took a day trip to Bodrum in Turkey. DD loves seafood so when we found a restaurant that the tour guide had recommended that served lobster, she was overjoyed. I thought DH had heard the discussion around ordering lobster but turns out he hadn't. I'd glanced at the price on the menu but it was unclear. Bound to be cheap though, right? Bill came and it read 126 without any currency sign. We were happy- that (when converting from Turkish lira to GBP is around £25... except the bill was in euros and the lobster worked out at about £75... that was for DD's LUNCH! I felt like a prize chump. We've laughed about it since but we'll be feeling the pinch (pun intended) for the rest of the month! Grin

Northernsoullover · 16/08/2019 22:16

I had a similar experience with the French food market in my town centre. Small tub of olives for 25 quid. I was really broke at the time and at a very low point in life. Therefore I paid up and shuffled away. Now I'm in a better place both financially and mentally I'd have the confidence to say no thanks.

HeadintheiClouds · 16/08/2019 22:16

Why would lobster be “bound to be cheap”? Silly assumption to make, really...

mindproject · 16/08/2019 22:17

In Asda you can get 3 bags of sweets for £1.

Tigerbandage · 16/08/2019 22:18

I do like the Lindt pick and mix but they are sneaky as there’s no scales, I worked out it’s roughly 45p a piece so pick carefully!

HuggedTheRedwoods · 16/08/2019 22:18

Blimey! there are photos of the store and sweets on display in the (pretty much all bad) TripAdvisor reviews www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g295371-d15187439-Reviews-Captain_Candy-Dubrovnik_Dubrovnik_Neretva_County_Dalmatia.html

notanotherfucker · 16/08/2019 22:18

Why didn't he refuse to pay and put them back??

SD1978 · 16/08/2019 22:18

Where are the gold plated sweeties!!!!!!!!

Badwifey · 16/08/2019 22:19

Holy fuck that's a huge amount of money to spend on sweets

Reminds me of the time myself and Dh were on honeymoon. We had a stop off in Florence and it was so hot. We spotted a gelato shop and queued for ice cream. We both got a cone with two scoops and went to pay. There was a queue for the till so we started eating while waiting. Got to the top and they wanted €20... for two ice creams!! I nearly got sick!! If we hadn't eaten any I'd have told her to forget it!! I'm sure that's why the queue for payment was separate. Robbing bastards!!

mcmooberry · 16/08/2019 22:20

This reminds me of when we bought a few, maybe around 8 or 12 olives in Windsor and it came to £14!! They had offered us a free sample and we probably felt obliged to buy a few and couldn't believe the rip off price (but paid it).

SallyWD · 16/08/2019 22:21

I can't believe it! Where's the photo?!

littlepeas · 16/08/2019 22:23

We spent £33 quid on 5 scoops of ice cream in San Francisco! Surely that’s nearly as bad! Or maybe worse, depending on size of bags of sweets?
