Sure the dress is alright (not my style) but God is it spiralling out of control.

I’ve just read this www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/the-zara-dress_uk_5d516d12e4b0fd2733f353b1

and can’t quite believe people are mocking and posting pictures of strangers on an Instagram account and hashtag dedicated to a bloody dress.

AgentJohnson · 16/08/2019 13:47

Didn’t click on the link because well I’m 47 years old and this juvenile sniggering/ finger pointing, mean girl, sheep following bullshit doesn’t move me.

ethelfleda · 16/08/2019 13:50

I’ve never heard of this dress before and think this whole thing is laughable! Doesn’t even look that nice???

midsomermurderess · 16/08/2019 13:58

I've never seen it in real life and agree with many that it has shades of Amish about it. These crazes are quite odd.

Coffeeisnecessary · 16/08/2019 14:00

I love it, I wish I had it. I've reached an age and stage where I think I should dress in clothes that I like and don't give a shit what other people think, also who cares if it's massive and like a tent? My body is not an ornament for other people's eyes!

daisyboocantoo · 16/08/2019 14:02

I have never heard of the dress, and beyond these photos, have never seen anyone wear the dress.

championquartz · 16/08/2019 14:02

It reminds me about that jumpsuit that everyone was banging on about last year. M+S, navy, red stripe down the sides. Same hysteria. Only difference with this dress is that I've seen it loads. That jumpsuit I think I saw once (in the wild).

It's all a heap load of marketing. Clever.

justasking111 · 16/08/2019 14:03

Read an interesting article from a muslim woman who says it is modest so she is happy to wear something fun without causing offence. Then a woman who is self conscious about her arms saying it covered her sins whilst still being light to wear.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/08/2019 14:11

Ugh not seen one irl but not my thing. Reminds me of an 80’s maternity dress. I could see Princess Di in one of these. Perplexed how you could nurse ie breast feed in it @Teddybear45 without flashing.

Alsohuman · 16/08/2019 14:13

You couldn’t breastfeed discreetly in it. You’d have to take the top off completely.

itbemay · 16/08/2019 14:14

Hot for the spot on insta! I have the dress, wore it once and was asked when the baby is due... i am not pregnant. I would wear again but with a belt! I am thinking about dyeing it, there have been some lovely colours on instagram.

TheoneandObi · 16/08/2019 14:14

Completely missed this one. It's a spotty dress and everyone has one? Not in my neck of the (fairly remote) woods!

RedForShort · 16/08/2019 14:15

I think the dress is just symbolic of how everyone dresses the same these days.
Huh? Unlike the good old days, the 60s and 70s for example, when everyone dressed with such variety.

I've yet to spot this dress in the wild (dublin).from the picture I'm listed to why it's got so much mania!

itbemay · 16/08/2019 14:15

@happytobemrsg did you use the dylon dye that you put in the washing machine? I was thinking khaki too!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/08/2019 14:17

I'm a Scot in Scotland, and I own the dress. I like it a lot. It's cool to wear - as in not hot - but doesn't expose my upper arms which I don't like having on show. I can't imagine wearing it into autumn, to me it's a bare leg dress, but I've had good cost-per-wear from it, and it's washed really well (it's viscose, not polyester). I'm 5ft 6, size 10, and while it's not the most flattering thing I've ever worn, I think it looks nice and have actually had women stop me and say it looks good.

Honestly, I see LOADS of things I hate in the shops, I just walk on by. I think the fact this dress is so popular and the media's got a hold of it means people feel they have to have an opinion on it, whereas in reality most people probably see tons of things they perceive as ugly every single day, but don't bother saying it out loud. The sneery tone of that Instagram account is horrible, but actually some good has come of it - they're co-hosting an event which will benefit a period poverty charity. The pieces in the media have, I think, generally been positive.

Armi · 16/08/2019 14:19

I’m not familiar with the dress or with Zara. Nipped over to the website for a look but don’t think any of it is really my thing, plus they’ve got all their models looking very sulky and upset, as I would be if I was forced to wear ill-fitting polyester. Poor souls.

Funguy · 16/08/2019 14:19

oh.

Alsohuman · 16/08/2019 14:21

It’s. Not. Polyester.

Armi · 16/08/2019 14:27

I didn’t say the dress was polyester, I was commenting on the clothes I looked at on the website. Polyester and viscose mix. How nice.

Hollycatberry · 16/08/2019 14:35

never want to pull again

Yeah because women should only dress in what makes us attractive to men Hmm

I've seen a few threads on MN about the dress where generally loads of people pile on to critique it and loftily explain how awful it looks blah blah. Any excuse to tear other women down.

Maybe it doesn't suit everyone, but who cares. The women wearing it look like they are having fun. Who cares if it's flattering, these women can wear what they want without worrying about that. Men don't worry about wearing flattering clothes. How many Mnetters are partnered or married to plain Dave's that wears bootcut jeans and cargo shorts and would still say he's fanciable? Funny how only women have to worry about wearing something flattering isn't it.

ShirleyPhallus · 16/08/2019 14:36

That article is so self-centredly obnoxious. The writer really does think she’s something special. Newsflash: no one gives a shit about taking photos of you in that dress.

Dress is frumpsville but I’ve seen much worse being applauded on S&B boards

happytobemrsg · 16/08/2019 14:40

@itbemay yep the Dylon machine dye! It came out really well.

Yes the dress is shapeless. Just add a belt if you want definition. Had I just seen the dress on the website I would not have bought it. It has been seeing how real women wear & style the dress which encouraged me to buy it & Im glad I did.

kidsdoingmyheadin · 16/08/2019 14:49

Completely agree with you Hollycatberry

itbemay1 · 16/08/2019 14:50

@happytobemrsg thank you! I think it's a great dress also!

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 16/08/2019 14:53

I'm close to London and had no idea what you are on about. I googled it and thought it looked rather drab. Don't know quite what all the fuss is about.

Eustasiavye · 16/08/2019 14:53

I love spots, always have done.
I think it's only the same as everyone wearing g the same shirt, trousers, trainers. Who cares really?
