Just out of simple curiosity really, and to see how our rent compares with other parts of the country.

I’ll go first. We pay £700 a month for a privately rented three bedroom flat in East Anglia. That’s actually relatively cheap for a three bed (most go for around £800/£900 here) but that’s probably because the third bedroom is tiny.

Just googled exchange rate and equilivent to £3650 Shock
Ridiculously inflated rent in Doha
Made worse that we've spend over 500,000 on rent in 11 years in the ME.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/08/2019 09:56

£425pm for a large 2 bed flat, first floor so no garden. East Midlands.

Rents have gone up in the 5 years since I moved in but my landlord hasn't raised mine thankfully.

MovinOnUp · 11/08/2019 10:01

£360 for a new build, ground floor 3 bedroom flat.
It's a council house and I was very lucky to get it after being in homeless accommodation for 16 months after leaving my ex.

fussychica · 11/08/2019 10:03

DS pays 975 pm for 1 bed ground floor flat with garden in a nice area of north west London. He would like to buy in the area but his flat would be £££s.

PinkSpring · 11/08/2019 10:06

We own ours but the house next door was recently let for £750 a month, not including bills. That is for a three bedroom semi with small garden, garage and two parking spaces, in North Norfolk.

AngrySquid · 11/08/2019 10:07

£67 a week, one bedroom flat in a quiet town in Rhondda Cynon taff.

NotSoThinLizzy · 11/08/2019 10:07

320pcm for 3 bedroom house with front and back garden 2 min walk to school and shop 5 min walk to beach. In the arse end of Scotland

Venger · 11/08/2019 10:09

£370 a month for a large three bed semi with garden, outbuildings and a garage in a Northumberland coastal village.

Omega369 · 11/08/2019 10:11

@Smilebehappy123 Where do you get £81000 from???

& you obviously don't live in London! Most people don't have any choice but to pay extortionate rent, we can't just "rent a little cheaper and get on the property ladder" when an average 2 bed flat costs £650k!

Let's say you rent a "cheap" flat on the outskirts for £1200 a month, saving £500 a month on rent. It would take at least 12 years to save enough for a deposit. 12 whole years of living in a shithole and having a miserable commute! It's no wonder that most people would rather have a better quality of life and accept that they'll never afford to buy property... unless they inherit a lot which is the only way people I know have done it!

JanuaryBirthdays · 11/08/2019 10:22

£825 for a 3 bed terraced house in a 'nicer' part of South West city.
3rd bedroom only fits a toddler bed, small courtyard garden.

cookiechomper · 11/08/2019 10:23

£600 3 bed terrace in North West.

Chocolatedaim · 11/08/2019 10:27

Chocolate daim that’s 81, 000 you have handed over to your landlord , just why ???? Surely the sensible option would be rent a little cheaper and get on the property ladder
I’m flabbergasted that anybody would pay that much out in rent it’s crazy .

It’s not that straightforward, firstly we love where we are and don’t have a £60k + deposit. Our family lives in midlands, but we don’t want to be there. Neither my DH or I have rich relatives or anyone likely to gift us that amount in their wills so we have no choice but to rent.
We will probably get on one of the help to buy schemes where you are only required to have about £15k deposit but we will see.
Housing ladder in London isn’t easy and I would rather be here than anywhere else so that’s the cost...

lovelyupnorth · 11/08/2019 10:39

3 double bed barn conversion in North West 2 bathrooms parking large garden and in the grounds to large hall. Garden looked after by the estate. £900.00. Close to village and two national parks.

Cider4Caro · 11/08/2019 10:44

We pay 680 for a 3 bed in Rural Cheshire. Its brand new with DS closet. It's in footballer territory so gone from farming community to silly mansions and tiny orange women driving massive Range Rovers they cant park. Still lovely though, it's where I was born so I'm lucky to still live here!

SweetPetrichor · 11/08/2019 10:47

£550 for a two bed flat within walking distance of the city centre - Glasgow.

SilentAlarm · 11/08/2019 10:50

We recently bought a house but up until last October we were paying £475 a month for a 2 bed 2nd floor flat in a Northamptonshire village. It was cheaper than our neighbours who were in 1 beds, I think we got very lucky with our landlord.

Shmithecat2 · 11/08/2019 10:53

Our rent is £4000pcm for a large-ish 3bed house in a Western compound in Riyadh, KSA. Includes utilities and 25MB broadband.

MaMaMaMySharona · 11/08/2019 10:54

My last rental was a 2 bed, 2 bath flat in central Manchester - £995

fromthefloorboardsup · 11/08/2019 10:54

£725 for a two bed house in south Devon. Very cheap compared to my £1600 two bed flat in SE London!

Anonymouse007 · 11/08/2019 11:02

£1200 to rent a (damp) 2 bedroom ground floor flat in SE London.
No garden, no heating (we have radiators that don’t work) and 2nd bedroom is like a box that fits a small single bed.

theWarOnPeace · 11/08/2019 11:03

Just looked on Rightmove, a place just at the end of our street with x4 beds 1 bath and courtyard garden is £4,150 a month! Central London, but still insane. We are extremely fortunate to live in a council house, £700 a month.

Friendly1234 · 11/08/2019 11:14

We don’t rent but we own a rental in Liverpool. It’s a 2 bed apartment that we rent out for 500 pm and we have a tiny mortgage left on it that is less than 100 pm.

Jinxed2 · 11/08/2019 11:16

£450 for 3 bed (tiny 3rd bedroom) HA in Lancashire

Smilebehappy123 · 11/08/2019 11:22

81000 comes from simple maths really , 1350 per month over 60 months (5 years that the poster said had lived in the property ) is 81,000, I’m not sure what part of that you don’t understand ? Please explain further

scott2609 · 11/08/2019 11:37

£1300pcm for a big 2 bed ground floor flat with a garden in very central Brighton. It’s a bit damp and could do with some renovation, but the landlord is brilliant and hasn’t put the rent up at all since we moved in nearly 5 years ago.
