What's wrong with stew being cooked in the summer?

Mileysmiley · 08/08/2019 13:40

I am already feeling hot and bothered all I need is a dish of stew!!

CalmdownJanet · 08/08/2019 13:46

It's never too hot to ear stew! Yum!

Mileysmiley · 08/08/2019 13:47

@CalmdownJanet

You sound like my husband he can't wait because he is sick of salads all the time

What's wrong with stew? I'd prefer stew over salad any day irrespective of the external temperature.

cocomelon23 · 08/08/2019 13:49

I had stew and shepherds pie in the last few days. Obviously not together!

Mileysmiley · 08/08/2019 13:50

I think I have entered the twilight zone ......

Eugh I hate stew.

The word is disgusting for a start.

It also reminds me of childhood cooking where a piece of lamb was cooked for 17 hours until it was tough and rubbery, baked in a pot with water and a potato and a carrot and NO SEASONING so it’s just hot carrot meat water.

Disgusting. I hate stew. Just the word makes me feel sick.

Do you know what's worse?

Capital Letters In The Middle Of Sentences

I'm with you OP, when I see people posting on the meal-planning or 'what have you eaten today?' threads saying they've had cottage pie or or some kind of casserole, IN AUGUST, I always shake my head sadly at them. I do actually love a casserole or pie, but such things are surely for October onwards?

FatThor · 08/08/2019 13:53

Sorry OP that was dickish but I couldn't resist Grin

Mileysmiley · 08/08/2019 13:53

@ShirleyPhallus

At last someone who gets what I am talking about

OP posts:
Elliebellbell · 08/08/2019 13:55

I hate stew but I horsed a big plate of toad in the hole, mash and gravy last night. Summer is irrelevant, I just hate stew.

And that goes for bastards who pretend it's something else:

Tagine
Casserole
Hotpot

Fuck off. You're all STEW!!

mrsw2 · 08/08/2019 13:55

I'm with you , I hate stew

CalmdownJanet · 08/08/2019 13:56

A man after my own heart! Tell me he mops up the excess soup with a slice of bread and butter, there's a real man for you 😂

TreesoftheField · 08/08/2019 13:57

How funny. Have just had a marital row because DH wants to cook soup and the thought of drinking hot soup in this heat is making me feel ill. It escalated into apparently soup being more healthy than anything I cook..... SIGH

Elliebellbell · 08/08/2019 13:58

And it's nearly an anagram of sweat which should be enough to make you steer clear

ShirleyPhallus · 08/08/2019 14:00

And it's nearly an anagram of sweat which should be enough to make you steer clear

And only one letter away from SPEW which is also a pretty strong sign

Nottobesoldseparately · 08/08/2019 14:01

I love hot food in the middle of summer.

And I love a good salad in the depths of winter.

DH says it's one of my quirks, I say it's quite normal!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 08/08/2019 14:08

I do eat hot food in Summer and Winter salads, but no long, slow cooking, and certainly no mash!

I'm making soup tonight but it's a Summer minestrone, much lighter than its hearty Autumn/Winter counterpart.

sergeilavrov · 08/08/2019 14:23

Haha we are having Maghmour (aubergine and chickpea stew) tonight, so I hope it’s not too weird. Served with crusty bread, salad and chilled Riesling

Dragonglass · 08/08/2019 14:43

The weather is more like autumn than summer at the moment, so sounds ok to me.

MrsTommyBanks · 08/08/2019 14:55

YANBU. I love stew, but I hold off of making it until it's very cold out. Stew and dumplings is Winter food.

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/08/2019 14:57

You can eat stew anytime of year,Yabu.
