Stew In The Middle Of Summer??

My mil has asked us over for dinner tonight for a dish of stew!! Yuk! I hate stew!

Why eat something you don't like Nothing wrong with hot food in the summer, we just wait until a bit later when it's not red hot outside, if it's a hot day.
Wish someone would make me one I'm full of cold and feeling ill.

Do you live in Australia? It's not THAT hot? Perhaps if you didn't want to be slaving in a hot kitchen I could get it but you're not cooking it?

I never understand people who won't do certain things because "it's summer" who cares? My sister won't wear bright colours or floral patterns in the winter because it's "too summery" if it's nice and you like it just have it you weirdos!

I cooked a melt in your mouth beef casserole yesterday, it was lapped up by all. The season wouldn't have even occurred to me.

I love stew. And casseroles. And tagines. And soup.

In winter and in summer and spring and autumn. Yum!

Can’t remember whether I linked or just mentioned- but this is the summer stew to end all summer stews.

Obviously if stew is bad it's because the person making it can't make stew, hence this being about bashing the OPs MIL - maybe she is a bad cook of stew, but that doesn't mean all stew is bad.

Made properly, it's a thing of wonder and yes to it just being a name and could cover all manner of one pot dishes featuring meat and vegetables in a sauce, many of which the stew haters would be happy to eat at any time.

A traditional UK style stew is not something I would have chosen yesterday, but I had a roast dinner at a carvery as it happens, but I did eat it outside in the sun.

And as we all know, in the UK there is plenty of stew weather in the summer anyway, like today and this weekend.

You sound like a petulant 4 year-old fussy eater. Do you think people in hot countries only eat cold food? Do you only eat cold food all summer? You just (foolishly) don't like stew and are throwing a strop about being served it and are using the time of year as an excuse.

I like stew anytime, although I call it a casserole. I usually make one that will last for two days,so can do my gardening whatever.for most of the afternoon,then have got a meal all ready for later.

It isn't about it being August, it's about the fact that someone has gone to the expense and trouble of cooking a meal for you. Eat it with good grace.

I want to cook sausage and chips for dinner tonight but DH can't stomach it, like you OP. He will choose salad but I don't enjoy salad very much so maybe I and the children will gorge on lovely fat sossies and he can watch us while nibbling on leaves
