Stew In The Middle Of Summer??

Mileysmiley · 08/08/2019 13:39

My mil has asked us over for dinner tonight for a dish of stew!! Yuk! I hate stew!

Those of you who say you hate stew (in all its forms) are just weird. Seriously weird. Either that or you have been unfortunate in who cooks for you.

And the poster who talked about a piece of lamb cooked for 17 hours being rubbery - slow cooked lamb is anything but rubbery. You can practically eat it with a fork, it's one of the nicest things. Shock

LeeScoresbysBalloon · 08/08/2019 16:34

There’s no such thing as “winter food” or “summer food” IMO. Delicious food is delicious no matter what time of year it is.

And salads suck. If DH made me eat salads every night I’d divorce him.

CookPassBabtridge · 08/08/2019 16:35

Yeah I don't get the cold/hot foods either. I eat salads in winter and stews in summer.

NotWavingButMNing · 08/08/2019 16:39

My mother always moans it's too hot to eat. I don't get it, my appetite is unaffected by the time of year or the weather, I still like a curry, a roast or a stew.

@NoSauce

I am not a wind up at all ... My husband does sleep on the sofa and my MIL eats stooo

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/08/2019 16:46

Stop been so childish, dont like it dont fucking eat it.

NoSauce · 08/08/2019 16:49

Just decline it. Take a pot noodle. I’m sure MIL will understand Smile

BertrandRussell · 08/08/2019 17:04

One of the things I used to tell my children off for was the excessive “poo yuck” response to food other people likes and they didn’t. I am amazed that there are adults who do it.

Hidingtonothing · 08/08/2019 17:30

I do subscribe to some degree of summer food/winter food thinking but for some reason I am currently cooking a full on beef dinner with all the trimmings. Sort of regretting it, our kitchen gets hot but am still looking forward to it, stew would also be fine by me Smile

BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/08/2019 17:38

‘Stew’ has lost all meaning now 🤯

mogtheexcellent · 08/08/2019 18:37

Yuck no. Stew is for cold wet days.

My DM cooked a casserole on the really hot day we had a couple of weeks ago. No one wanted any as it was too hot.

Mileysmiley · 08/08/2019 23:04

I feel sick after forcing the stooo down my throat puke!!

Yum stew. I do it with a savoury crumble topping. We had it 2 nights ago. Delicious!

LadyRannaldini · 09/08/2019 10:32

Those sneering at stew would probably have no problem with curry, chilli etc.. I used to point out to my pupils in Summer that hot food, curry etc., originated in hot countries, heating the interior of your body increases air flow to the outside, ie you feel cooler. A similar thing applies to hot drinks, they cool your body more.

BertrandRussell · 09/08/2019 10:40

This thread isn’t about sneering at stew (however much I love the phrase). It’s about sneering at a mil.

LoafofSellotape · 09/08/2019 10:41

It’s about sneering at a mil

Again

Rainbunny · 09/08/2019 11:03

I make lots of stews/casseroles/curries/soups in the summer, mostly because I can cook them in my slow cooker and avoid having to turn my oven or stove on which really heats up the kitchen. I usually serve these dishes with salad.

LoafofSellotape · 09/08/2019 11:09

I have my SC on today for exactly the same reason Rainbunny

ShirleyPhallus · 09/08/2019 11:11

It’s about sneering at a mil

For me it’s just about sneering at stew

NoSauce · 09/08/2019 11:24

A bit of both I reckon Grin
