Is not getting far more media coverage?

OP posts:
AtmosClock · 07/08/2019 12:13

How much should it get? It’s in all the papers

Reallybadidea · 07/08/2019 12:14

She doesn't tick enough public interest boxes I would guess. Her poor parents, they must be out of their minds.

Clangus00 · 07/08/2019 12:16

I’ve seen lots of coverage about it.
Maybe because it’s so far away and there’s sadly nothing we can do to find her?

Crunchymum · 07/08/2019 12:17

I saw it on BBC news yesterday? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-49247335

denirosknee · 07/08/2019 12:17

I've seen and heard a lot about it in the papers and on the radio.

Her poor parents - it's such a desperate situation.

FamilyOfAliens · 07/08/2019 12:17

That poor child and those poor parents.

LEELULUMPKIN · 07/08/2019 12:18

Perhaps I am over invested as I have a 14 yr old DS with severe learning difficulties and this would be my worst nightmare.

I can't stop thinking about her and her family.

OP posts:
Medicmog · 07/08/2019 12:19

It has had lots of media coverage from what I can see

Ponoka7 · 07/08/2019 12:20

Google her name and every news outlet is covering it.

It comes up on every news feed.

The latest developments of finger prints being found on the holiday cottage window is being covered by everyone.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 07/08/2019 12:20

I got a push notification yesterday when it was being questioned whether she'd run away or been abducted, and last night when someone reported seeing a "white woman" swimming in the river near to where she went missing.

It's not constant, but there appears to be little news to share.

I feel so sorry for her and her parents; and I hope they get good news soon.

MsVestibule · 07/08/2019 12:22

It's been in all of the newspapers/news websites - I don't know how much more coverage the story should get?

Ponoka7 · 07/08/2019 12:25

I think part of the issue was that some countries don't recognise Adults with SEN as being vulnerable and 15 year olds aren't treated as children.

At the start there had to be a push to get the Police to respond accordingly. The same happened with Scarlett Keeling.

fairislecable · 07/08/2019 12:42

I also think this is horrific, I keep checking the news to see if she has been found.

I cannot believe she has wandered off they only arrived the day before.

What utter torment for her family.

BenWillbondsPants · 07/08/2019 12:52

There may be reasons why coverage is limited.

Dreadful situation, I so hope they find her and there is a happy outcome to this.

KevinKlineSwoon · 07/08/2019 12:53

I'm a Broadcast Journalist. Unfortunately there is not much to say unless police issue information, evidence is discovered or the parents speak. We wouldn't keep saying 'Searches for a teenager missing in Malaysia are continuing'. Online versions of the story will still be there but not updated until the story changes.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 07/08/2019 12:54

Its top of my news feed every day so far - are you not looking in the right news channels?

WyfOfBathe · 07/08/2019 12:54

I agree that it's horrific, but it seems to me that it is getting quite a lot of coverage.

They can only really report when there are new developments.

endofthelinefinally · 07/08/2019 12:55

It is awful that the local police are treating this as a missing person investigation. Her parents have made it very clear that she would not leave of her own volition.
They must be absolutely frantic.

jennymanara · 07/08/2019 12:56

It is being well covered. Sadly child abduction seems to be common in Malaysia.

Knitwit99 · 07/08/2019 12:57

I'm guessing the parents haven't said much? In a similar situation parents have made appeals, friends of parents have made appeals on their behalf. I hope it's the case that the parents don't want to at this time, rather than them desperately trying to get her face out there and the press ignoring them.
I hope they get answers soon, and I hope the local police are being supportive. As if the situation is not bad enough, to feel people are not taking you seriously must make it a million times worse.

ThatCurlyGirl · 07/08/2019 12:58

I get what you mean OP - I know it's on all the news sites but there's something about the reporting / positioning of it that feels more low key than similar stories.

I can't quite put my finger on it but I thought exactly the same as you. Poor kid, let's hope for a positive outcome.

Whoops75 · 07/08/2019 12:59

Also following this story, lots of coverage in Ireland but few updates.
The poor girl and her family
I hope there is a happy outcome.

LEELULUMPKIN · 07/08/2019 13:00

Thank you for all your replies, many interesting points raised.

As I have said upthread, I think this story has particularly hit home with me as being in a similar parental position and we travel a lot with our DS who is the same age as Noira.

OP posts:
SuperSara · 07/08/2019 13:02

I think it's being well covered.

Yesterday heard coverage on 2 different radio stations' news and saw on the main TV news too.

It's sad regardless of the coverage.

JellyfishAndShells · 07/08/2019 13:02

There's lots of continuing coverage that I've seen - as indeed there should be, though its a bit tricky if there is no progress at the moment. I do think it is being treated as serious by everyone concerned. The poor parents must be going out of their minds with worry.
